Protecting Julian Assange: A Must for People Of Conscience

The specter of Assange being evicted from the Ecuadorian embassy is again at the forefront of the news. The Associated Press wrote that Moreno complained that WikiLeaks was intercepting his communications and invading his privacy. Importantly, AP noted that Moreno provided no evidence for his claims. People power needs to mobilize. If people care deeply about their right to be informed, to be apprised of their government partaking in war crimes, then millions must take to the streets and squares, especially in Norway and Britain.

Chelsea Manning Released From Solitary Confinement

After 28 days of incarceration, United States Army whistleblower Chelsea Manning has been released from solitary confinement and moved into the general population unit of the Truesdale Detention Center in Northern Virginia. Manning refused to answer questions before a grand jury about her 2010 leak of hundreds of thousands of State Department and Pentagon documents about the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to WikiLeaks.

U.N. Torture Expert Urges Ecuador Not To Expel Assange From Embassy

GENEVA (Reuters) - The United Nations torture investigator called on Ecuador on Friday not to expel Wikileaks founder Julian Assange from its London embassy, voicing concern that he could be extradited to the United States and possibly face mistreatment. A British friend said Assange was “prepared” for expulsion from the building he has lived in for nearly seven years, after Ecuador’s President Lenin Moreno said he had “repeatedly violated” the terms of his asylum. Moreno told radio stations on Tuesday that Assange did not have the right to “hack private accounts or phones” and could not intervene in the politics of other countries, especially those with friendly relations with Ecuador.

Julian Assange Facing Expulsion And Extradition

News broke yesterday that Julian Assange is facing imminent expulsion from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London. The news was leaked by whistleblowers. The justification for the expulsion is that Wikileaks released the INA Papers, which implicate the Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno in corruption. The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture released a press release saying:  “In my assessment, if Mr. Assange were to be expelled from the Embassy of Ecuador, he is likely to be arrested by British authorities and extradited to the United States,” said the UN expert.

Be Ready To Act: WikiLeaks Source Says They’re Coming For Assange

The WikiLeaks Twitter account has announced that it has high level information that the organization’s founder Julian Assange could have his political asylum the Ecuadorian embassy revoked for him to be arrested by the British government within hours. We need to be ready to shake the earth should this happen. We need all hands on deck for this one. “BREAKING: A high level source within the Ecuadorian state has told @WikiLeaks that Julian Assange will be expelled within ‘hours to days’ using the #INApapers offshore scandal as a pretext–and that it already has an agreement with the UK for his arrest,” the leak publishing outlet tweeted, with a link to a story about the INA Papers leak.

Chelsea Manning Files Motion For Immediate Release Pending Appeal

Chelsea Manning’s legal team submitted a motion on Monday to the US Eastern District Court of Virginia for her immediate release pending her appeal of the decision that sent her to jail indefinitely on March 8. Manning was imprisoned by District Judge Claude Hilton on civil contempt charges for courageously refusing to testify before a secret grand jury preparing a frame-up case against WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange. The latest motion argues that the judge’s decision to remand Manning to the Alexandria Detention Center was in violation of her constitutional rights and should be reversed.

Ecuador’s Moreno’s Next Attempt At Expelling Assange Is Full Of Lies And Deceit

Australian Julian Assange is the founder of Wikileaks and was essentially gagged in March of last year and his internet privileges removed. It is literally impossible for him to hack anything under the surveillance they gave on him in the Embassy especially since he has no internet access. Also, Wikileaks simply tweeted a link to the INA papers. Moreno has been accused in a NY Times article of attempting to sell Assange to the United States government in the past. According to some sources for as high as 10 billion dollars.

Assange And Manning Sacrifice Their Freedom For Our Right To Know

Julian Assange, the editor of Wikileaks, a media outlet for information provided by whistleblowers, has been in confinement in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for almost seven years and is experiencing increasingly harsh treatment. Chelsea Manning, who leaked information to Wikileaks and spent seven years in prison for it, is back in prison for her refusal to testify against Assange in a secret court. We speak with Joe Lauria of Consortium News about why Assange and Manning are sacrificing so much to protect our right to know what our governments are doing, the historical significance of their deeds and what we must do to support them.

Ecuador Vs. Assange; One Year Silenced

It seems that in recent days, Ecuador has become more tyrannical towards Assange than Britain is. With the recent terrible visit that Cassandra Fairbanks had and threats from the government to increase their protocol against Assange, it seems the country that once gave him asylum and support has turned on him. In fact, due to the US government coercing Ecuador, Moreno and his colleagues view Assange as an enemy. By gagging Assange for 8 months without visitors, phone or internet, the Ecuadorian government violated international law and literally tortured a man they gave refugee status.

Freedom Rider: Julian Assange And Robert Mueller

The investigation known as Russiagate has officially wrapped up. Special counsel Robert Mueller submitted his report to the Attorney General who promptly announced that it contained no proof of Trump campaign collusion with the Russian government. The daily onslaught of misleading and in some cases false assertions will diminish. But Russiagate will never truly go away. The Democrats will milk it for as long as they can.  The faux scandal was kept alive by lies which the misinformed public were exposed to for more than two years. One of those lies was a claim that Wikileaks founder Julian Assange worked with the Russian government to hack Democratic National Committee emails in 2016.

Rendition Plane, Increased Police Presence Raise Fears For Assange

March 27, 2019 "Information Clearing House" - In four days, it will be a full year since WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange was severed from contact with the outside world by the government of Ecuador. Concern for Assange was heightened as the anniversary approaches after a U.S. Department of Justice jet previously used for the rendition of an accused Russian hacker landed in London on Tuesday and remained there for days, only to return to the U.S. on Saturday. The flight reportedly departed from Manassas, Virginia.

After Pressure On Twitter, Christine Assange’s Account Is Restored

Christine Assange, the mother of WikiLeaks founder and publisher Julian Assange, had her Twitter account restored more than 24 hours after it was abruptly restricted by the social media company. Hundreds of tweets were sent to the San Francisco-based company by supporters demanding that she regain access to her account. Ms. Assange tweeted at 10:33 p.m. U.S. Eastern time on Wednesday: “Back on deck! Many thanks to everyone contacting @Twitter on my behalf. Thanks to @Twitter for responding with a reconnect.”

Twitter Restricts Account Of Julian Assange’s Mother

The Twitter account of Christine Assange, the mother of the arbitrarily detained founder of WikiLeaks, has been restricted, she told Consortium News on Tuesday. “My Twitter account has been ‘blocked due to ‘unusual activity,'” Ms. Assange wrote in a text message. Twitter, however, has provided her no reason for its action. Ms. Assange is a prolific user of Twitter in her campaign to free her son who has been a refugee in the Ecuador embassy in London since 2012.

John Pilger: ‘Defy The Thought Police’, Stand With Assange

John Pilger says of Assange that the room he's held in resembles "Room 101" from the famous novel "1984" by George Orwell. Whenever I visit Julian Assange, we meet in a room he knows too well. There is a bare table and pictures of Ecuador on the walls. There is a bookcase where the books never change. The curtains are always drawn and there is no natural light. The air is still and fetid. This is Room 101. Before I enter Room 101, I must surrender my passport and  phone. My pockets and possessions are examined. The food I bring is inspected. The man who guards Room 101 sits in what looks like an old-fashioned telephone box. He watches a screen, watching Julian. There are others unseen, agents of the state, watching and listening.

Support Continues To Pour In For Julian Assange And Chelsea Manning

Workers and young people across the world continue to speak out against the jailing of whistleblower Chelsea Manning, who courageously refused to testify in a secret grand jury against WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange. WikiLeaks and Assange brought to light the war crimes of US imperialism in Iraq with the publication in 2010 of the “Collateral Murder” video, among other leaked documents of US war crimes. Students and young people spoke out at demonstrations and meetings across the US sponsored by the World Socialist Web Site and the International Youth and Students for Social Equality (IYSSE).
