Social movements in Brazil are planning a march to Sao Paulo for October 13th, to demand that former leftist President Lula Da Silva be freed from jail, where he has been detained since April 2018 on trumped-up charges. The organizers of the "Justice for Lula" event, together with the Lula Libre Committee, reported that the demonstration aims to denounce the crimes and legal war that have made it impossible for the ex-president to appear in the 2018 general elections, making him a political prisoner.

Former Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has refused any relaxation in the nature of his imprisonment until his innocence is recognized. He declared this in a handwritten letter in response to a petition by Operation Car Wash prosecutors to ease the conditions of his incarceration from enclosed to semi-free. The letter was given by Lula to his lawyers on September 30. According to Lula, the only thing acceptable is that he is declared innocent. He is not interested in anything else. Reiterating what he has been saying since he was sentenced, in a clearly manipulated process, Lula wrote to the Brazilian people that he is not going to swap his dignity for his freedom. “All the Car Wash Prosecutors should really do is to apologize to the Brazilian people, to the millions of unemployed people, and my family, for the harm they have done to democracy, to justice, and the country,” he said...

This past Sunday, June 9, the Brazilian correspondent for the digital magazine The Intercept brought to light the truth by publishing a series of Telegram messages that highlight the gross violations of the Brazilian Constitution and the irregularities committed by Sergio Moro and prosecutor Dallagnol to plot the condemnation of Lula and ultimately gave Bolsonaro power. Judge Moro and Prosecutor Dallagnol acted in a calculated coordinated manner, mocking the Constitution of Brazil and the principle of impartiality to imprison Lula and prevent the triumph of the PT. The flawed trial against Lula must be annulled. The International Committee Peace, Justice and Dignity demands once again the immediate freedom of Lula, the public recognition of his innocence and the decriminalization of the PT.

Brazilian former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s supporters gathered in front of the jail where he is imprisoned to celebrate Christmas in solidarity with him. Members of the Lula Livre (Free Lula) movement called on Lula’s followers to attend a vigil outside the Curitiba Federal Police station in the state of Parana where he has been held as a political prisoner since April. Hundreds of followers gathered at the doors of the headquarters of the Federal Police of Curitiba in the southern state of Parana on Christmas Eve. A dinner and outdoor concert were held in celebration.

During the visit, the ex-president once again reiterated he is running for president in the country’s upcoming election in October, and talked about current events, as reported by the visitors afterward saying, "Stay strong. I thank the Brazilian people who is supporting me, giving me energy, supporting me [to run] for president. I thank the activists who remain unshakable, organizing the people. Only the people who are organizing can stop this madness promoted by coupists and the court system."
