On Aug. 27, Black Lives Matter activists from Minneapolis and Torontotraveled to the Standing Rock Indian Reservation, which straddles North and South Dakota, to support indigenous tribes protesting the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL).

By Staff of IWW - Right now, several thousand indigenous tribal members (supported by over 160 tribes), land owners, environmentalists, climate justice activists, and supporters of #BlackLivesMatter have gathered together into two camps in rural North Dakota to organize nonviolent resistance to this massive project which will parallel and match the length of the infamous (but rejected by Presidential order) Keystone XL pipeline. Several others have been protesting all along the pipeline's route over the past couple of weeks. These 1000s strong intrepid folks are supported nationally and internationally by 100,000s.

Maine Students Sit-In Solidarity With DAPL & Protest Maine Pipeline

By Staff of MSCJ - Maine Students for Climate Justice (MSCJ) -- along with a number of allies (including 350 Maine supporters) staged a sit-in at the Public Utilties Commission in Hallowell, Maine on Tuesday, 9/13/16. The action was intended as opposition to the PUC commissioners support of the development of un-natural gas infrastructure on the backs of ratepayers -- negation of their own staff recommendations. Further, the event was developed in solidarity with global actions in support of the Standing Rock Sioux and other Native Americans, in opposition to the Dakota Access Pipeline in North Dakota.

Arrest Warrant Issued For Journalist Amy Goodman

By Laurel Raymond for Think Progress - On September 3rd, Journalist Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! filmed security guards attacking Native American protesters with dogs and pepper spray. The footage was widely covered, garnering significant negative press for the Dakota Access Pipeline company. Now, an arrest warrant has been issued for Goodman, charging her with criminal trespassing, a misdemeanor offense. “This is an unacceptable violation of freedom of the press,” Goodman said in a statement posted to Democracy Now!

The immediate responses to the attack were panic, grief and ultra-nationalism, followed by illegal attacks on Afghanistan and then Iraq. Perhaps now that 15 years has passed, we should look back at the events and review decisions that were made in hopes of avoiding mistakes in the future. The leading presidential candidates, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, seem stuck on the same path we have been on for 15 years -- is more militarism the right path? Have war and military attacks made the region more stable, the United States more secure, reduced terrorism, prevented instability in Europe due to the refuege crisis? Or, has the path of militarism made all of this worse?

Weeks Of #NoDAPL Solidarity Actions Planned

North Dakota - Our Native American brothers, sisters, relations & settler supporters have assembled at the Sacred Stone Camp and are converging with hundreds of Indigenous Tribal Nations and thousands of Water Protectors at Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in North Dakota. They are holding the line against construction of a pipeline that would carry highly flammable, fracked oil from the Bakken oil fields in that state to Illinois. The pipeline would go under the Missouri River, and protesters — referring to themselves as “protectors” and holding signs such as “Water is Life” — are carrying out radical non-violent resistance. Their numbers swell daily at the Camp of the Sacred Stones and the Red Warriors Camp.

New Occupation At Mississippi Entrance To Dakota Access Pipeline

By Frank Cordaro of the Des Moines Catholic Worker. Jessica Reznicek out of jail and is now starting a “24/7” occupation of the Dakota Access pipeline Mississippi entrance just north of Keokuk IA. DM Catholic Worker Jess Reznicek was arrested twice earlier this week for blocking traffic at this Dakota Access pipeline entrance on the Mississippi. In hopes to get more people to join her, Jess changed her presence from blocking traffic in and out of the site to setting up her tent and starting a 24 hr / 7 days a week occupation of the entrance. Jess got permission from the property owner to set her tent up and welcomes others to join her in the same nonviolent spirit.
