Israel’s Genocide Day 423: Israeli Siege Of North Gaza Intensifies

The UN agency responsible for providing humanitarian relief to Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, announced on Sunday that it has suspended receiving and delivering aid to Gaza through the Karam Abu Salem crossing between Israel and Rafah in southern Gaza, the main entry point to the Strip for humanitarian aid. The agency, which is the largest supplier of aid in Gaza, said in a statement that the road for delivering aid to the crossing point has been dangerous for months, especially since the Israeli invasion of Rafah last April. UNRWA also said that several truck drivers and aid delivery workers had been killed or injured, adding that “it can not continue to put their lives at risk.”

Israel’s Genocide Day 419: Conditions For Survival Are ‘Diminishing’

The UN agency for the relief of Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, said on Thursday that survival conditions are diminishing for 60,000 to 70,000 remaining Palestinians in the north of Gaza, as the Israeli siege of the area enters its 55th day. The UNRWA added that Israeli forces have obstructed 82 attempts by the UN to deliver aid to the north of Gaza in the past month, and rejected nine petitions to be allowed to deliver aid in the area where 700,000 Palestinians lived before October 7 of last year. The Israeli siege and bombing campaign in the north of Gaza that started in early October was coupled with raids into shelter centers and forcing people to leave.

Israel’s genocide Day 416: Minimal Food Aid Allowed Into Gaza

Israel and Lebanon are very close to concluding a ceasefire deal, claimed Israeli reports on Monday, after two days of intense fire exchange between Hezbollah and the Israeli army over the weekend. On Monday, the Israeli ambassador to the US told the Israeli army’s radio that Israel was close to reaching a ceasefire deal with Lebanon within days, while the Israeli minister of immigration told the same radio station that ceasefire talks with Lebanon reached advanced stages. These Israeli reports came as the Israeli daily Israel Hayom reported that Netanyahu held a meeting with key ministers in his cabinet late on Sunday

Criminalizing UNRWA: How Israel Is Delegitimizing The United Nations

On October 28, the Israeli Knesset passed a second reading of two bills that effectively ban the United Nations agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) from carrying out “any activity” in Israel and occupied Palestine. Simply put, the decision is catastrophic, because UNRWA is the main international body responsible for the welfare of millions of Palestinians throughout the occupied territories, and throughout much of the region. Israel followed its decision by attacking and damaging an UNRWA office in the Nur Shams refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. It was the Israeli government’s way of demonstrating its seriousness regarding the matter.

Israeli Lawmakers Vote To Ban UN Agency For Palestinian Refugees

The Israeli Knesset on 28 October passed two laws banning the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) from operating inside Israel, Gaza, the occupied West Bank, and occupied East Jerusalem. In a 92-10 vote, the Knesset approved the first law, which says that the UN agency cannot “operate any institution, provide any service, or conduct any activity, whether directly or indirectly.” Moments later, lawmakers voted 87-9 for the second law, which states that no Israeli government official or agency may contact UNRWA, effectively prohibiting Israeli officials from providing services or dealing with UN employees.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 227: ICC Seeks Warrants For Netanyahu, Galant

Chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim Khan told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour in an interview on Monday, May 20, that the ICC would be seeking arrest warrants for Israeli leaders and Hamas officials on charges of “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity” on October 7 and during the war on Gaza. The ICC prosecutor told Amanpour that the application for the arrest warrants, if granted by the ICC’s panel of judges, included Hamas’s leader in Gaza Yahya Sinwar, Hamas politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh, Qassam Brigades commander Muhammad al-Deif, and most notably, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli war minister Yoav Gallant.

UN Report Demolishes Israeli Propaganda Campaign Against UNRWA

Israel has failed to provide any evidence of its claims that employees of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) are members of “terrorist organizations,” according to an independent review led by former French foreign minister Catherine Colonna. In January, Israel claimed without evidence that some UNRWA staff – until then the primary conduit of humanitarian aid into the besieged and bombed Gaza Strip – were members of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and had participated in the Hamas-led attack on Israeli military bases and settlements on 7 October, known as Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 163: Top EU Official Says Israel Failed To Prove Accusations Against UNRWA

Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have spent their first week of Ramadan under Israeli bombardment and with little food and drink, which has led to the death of dozens of children from malnutrition and dehydration. In the past 24 hours, Israeli forces committed nine massacres in various areas of the Gaza Strip, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health on Telegram, killing at least 92 people and injuring 130. Thousands remain under the rubble of bombed buildings. For the 1.2 million Palestinians in Rafah, an Israeli ground invasion of the southernmost town of the Gaza Strip is imminent.

UNRWA Staffers Tortured By Israeli Troops To Falsely Admit ‘Hamas Links’

An unpublished report from UNRWA said some of its employees released from Israeli detention were tortured into falsely stating that the agency has Hamas links and that staff took part in the 7 October attacks, Reuters reported on 9 March. The testimonies are contained in a report by the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) reviewed by Reuters and dated February 2024. "Agency staff members have been subject to threats and coercion by the Israeli authorities while in detention and pressured to make false statements against the Agency, including that the Agency has affiliations with Hamas."

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 152: Little Prospect Of Breakthrough In Ceasefire Talks

Israeli authorities turned back 14 trucks carrying humanitarian aid to northern Gaza on Tuesday. This prompted the World Food Program (WFP) to resort to airdropping the aid with the help of the Jordanian Air Force, delivering aid to 20,000 people in northern Gaza. “WFP is determined to do whatever it takes to reach people in need. But to avert famine, we must have access by road,” the organization wrote on X. Aid convoys driving on Salah al-Din Street to northern Gaza have had to stop at an Israeli military checkpoint in Wadi Gaza, which splits the enclave into northern and southern territories.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 150: Israel Is ‘Engineering Famine’ In Gaza

Thousands of families in the Gaza Strip are barely finding enough food to cook a meal for their children as Israel’s military aggression and aid blockade continue for the 150th day. At least a quarter of Gaza’s population is just a step away from famine, with already reported deaths of babies and children in homes and hospitals. Prices of the little fruits and vegetables available on the market have soared, and non-essential products such as coffee have skyrocketed, with one kilogram sold at $100 (360 shekels). The most expensive cup of coffee is now to be found, not in Paris or the Maldives, but in Gaza, according to a Palestinian on TikTok who invited two of his friends over coffee to thank them for standing beside him as his injured leg healed.

The Remarkable Decline In The Global North’s Leadership

A group of young people in Paris are enjoying a drink in a café on an unseasonably warm evening. The conversation drifts into politics, but—as one young woman says—“Let’s not talk about France.” The others nod their assent. They focus on the US presidential election, a slight bit of Gallic arrogance at play as they mock the near certainty that the main candidates will be President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. Biden is 81 years old and Trump is 77. A Special Counsel in the United States has called Biden an “elderly man with a poor memory,” hardly the words required to inspire confidence in the president.

Defunding UNRWA Makes United States Complicit In Genocide

Earlier this year, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel’s actions in Gaza plausibly constitute genocide. The world’s most influential judicial body ordered Israel to stop killing civilians and to admit more humanitarian aid. Unfortunately, Israel was having none of it. Israel’s killings have continued, with over 30,000 Palestinians in Gaza now dead and tens of thousands more at risk of dying from hunger and disease. Precious little aid is getting in. And worse, the U.S. has joined Israel’s efforts to incapacitate Gaza’s most important relief agency.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 143: Gaza Famine Is ‘Man-Made’

While Israel’s violent aggression on Gaza approaches the five-month mark, the situation in the besieged enclave deteriorates by the day as the population undergoes an Israeli-imposed famine as a result of the blockade. Following reports of a two-month-old baby starving to death on Friday, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has said the high risk of malnutrition continues to increase, with one in six children in northern Gaza “severely malnourished.” “We continue to appeal for regular humanitarian access,” UNRWA said in a post on X.

Israel Bombed Belgian Aid Office In Gaza

Belgian officials expressed outrage Thursday after Israeli forces reportedly bombed the office building of the Belgian Agency for Development Cooperation in the Gaza Strip, an attack that came after Belgium declined to join the U.S. and more than a dozen other countries in cutting off funding to the United Nations' Palestinian refugee agency. "The offices of Enabel, the Belgian development agency in Gaza, were bombed and destroyed," Hadja Lahbib, Belgium's foreign affairs minister, wrote on social media. "Targeting civilian buildings is unacceptable." Lahbib and Caroline Gennez, Belgium's minister of development cooperation and urban policy, posted photos of the destroyed building and demanded a meeting with Israel's ambassador envoy to the country to discuss the attack, which took place on Wednesday.
