Fearless Summer: Video: Mainers Block Frac-Oil Trains

This video shows 350 Maine, a grassroots movement addressing the climate crisis,blockading a Pan Am train as it passes through downtown Fairfield tonight, preventing roughly 70,000 barrels of crude oil from reaching the Irving Refinery in Saint John, New Brunswick. Police are on the scene. Trains running through Maine carry crude from the Bakken oil fields of North Dakota, where it is “fracked” or extracted by blasting a high pressure toxic cocktail deep into the ground to release the oil from shale rock, polluting air and water in surrounding communities.

Video: Protest at White House, Close Guantanamo, Diane Wilson Goes Over White House Fence

Human Rights activist Diane Wilson was arrested on Wednesday afternoon, June 26, 2013 around 2 pm for going over the fence and lading on the lawn at the White House in a daring protest action. A member of Veterans For Peace and co-founder of CODEPINK, she has been on "a water-only hunger strike since June 1 in solidarity with the detainees at Guantanamo." Before the demonstration began, Ms. Wilson shared with me the reasons why she is protesting. Soon after her arrest, about 20 more activists were arrested in front of the White House. On this tape, activist Kevin Zeese gives his analysis of the demonstration. He held President Barack Obama responsible for Guantanamo and labeled him "a torturer-in-chief."

Video: CNBC Reporter Apologizes for Suggesting Greenwald Should be Arrested

Andrew Ross Sorkin, CNBC host, famous for going to Occupy Wall Street at the behest of Wall Street bankers to see if they had anything to worry about, said on the air that he "almost thought Glenn Greenwald should be arrested. After looking at the video and the context (we wonder if that included all the criticism he received) Sorkin went on the air to apologize. Sam Seder of Majority Report pierces the veil of that apology.

The Obama administration has been working hard at crafting the Trans Pacific partnership -- the TPP- for several years and President Obama has said he wants to fast track the agreement through congress this fall. There has been no public debate on the trade agreement that has been called by many NAFTA on steroids, but people are organizing to stop the TPP.

Djamal left his home, Algeria, to avoid persecution for his religion, lived in Austria and Canada working for years as a head chef and selling office supplies waiting for process of his immigration papers. After both countries denied him and fearing he would be deported to Algeria, he headed for Afghanistan thinking this is one country that would not persecute him for being a Muslim. Djamal is an accomplished young man, with a college degree and work experience managing public water systems, he speaks something like 4 languages.

Video: Sovereign Summer Protest Against Shale Oil, 12 Arrested

Early in the morning of June 14, First Nation protesters in New Brunswick, Canada blocked the intersection of Highways 126 and 116 to stop work trucks from passing through on their way to perform seismic testing for shale oil extraction. Twelve were arrested and held in custody.This is one of many protests taking place to end the extraction economy's assault on Mother Earth as part of Sovereign Summer.
