WASHINGTON — A U.S. prosecutor has inadvertently revealed that Julian Assange, the founder and former editor-in-chief of WikiLeaks, has been secretly charged by the U.S. government, confirming long-held suspicions that the U.S. has had criminal charges waiting for Assange should he be extradited to the United States. The revelation comes just hours after a report in the Wall Street Journal revealed that the U.S. Department of Justice is preparing to indict Assange in such a way that it would trigger his extradition to the United States to stand trial, following sensitive negotiations with foreign governments, most likely the governments of the United Kingdom and Ecuador.

Ecuador may be preparing to extradite WikiLeaks' founder Julian Assange to the United States, Carlos Poveda, his lawyer warned Thursday. “I believe that [Washington, London and Quito] have reached some agreement and that is exactly why the special protocol [on home rules] was introduced... to accelerate the process of ending his asylum and hand him over to the United Kingdom authorities," Poveda said Thursday. For the past 6 years in the embassy, the UK government has refused his request for access to basic health needs: fresh air, exercise, sunshine for vitamin D and access to proper medical and dental care according to Christine Assange and Julian Assange’s lawyer, Greg Barns. As a result, his health has seriously deteriorated; and his examining doctors warn these detention conditions are life-threatening. “The slow and cruel assassination is taking place before our very eyes in the embassy in London,” Christine expressed. Assange’s doctor, Sean Love, has previously stated in an opinion piece that depriving him of medical care is “cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment.” Adding, “It is time for Australia to intervene.”

An attempted break-in at Julian Assange’s residence inside the Ecuadorian Embassy in London on Oct. 29, and the absence of a security detail, have increased fears about the safety of the WikiLeak’s publisher. Lawyers for Assange have confirmed to activist and journalist Suzie Dawson that Assange was awoken in the early morning hours by the break-in attempt. They confirmed to Dawson that the attempt was to enter a front window of the embassy. A booby-trap Assange had set up woke him, the lawyers said.

According to the Courage Foundation, which has campaigned against the persecution of Julian Assange, the Ecuadorian Embassy in London has forbidden access to all visitors to the WikiLeaks publisher, including his lawyers, until Monday, amid an urgent lawsuit. Most immediately, the ban obstructs a legal appeal by Assange against an Ecuadorian judge’s decision last week to uphold a draconian “protocol” that President Lenín Moreno’s government has sought to impose on him, in fundamental violation of the right to political asylum. The protocol essentially bars Assange from making any political comments whatsoever, because they might be deemed detrimental to the interests of Ecuador’s government or any other government.

Before being abruptly cut off by an Ecuadorian government lawyer during a court hearing on Monday, WikiLeaks founder and publisher Julian Assange accused that government of seeking to end his asylum in its London embassy and hand him over to the United States. Assange spoke from the tiny embassy via teleconference to a hearing in Quito of a lawsuit in which he is challenging a draconian protocol that President Lenín Moreno’s government has sought to impose on him. Assange said the new rules were a sign Ecuador was trying to push him out, and that Moreno had already decided to end his asylum but had not yet officially given the order.

Oftentimes, government officials will claim there is no extradition order in place for Julian Assange. This includes both U.K. and U.S. officials. The problem is evidence does exist that once Assange steps outside the Embassy doors and is arrested by British police for an untested bail warrant, he will then be sent to the United States where he faces a grand jury indictment. This indictment is sealed and would be opened once he is arrested. He faces either life in prison or the death penalty as many view his publishing as espionage. I intend on showing as much proof as possible that the two governments have no intention of not extraditing this journalist.

WikiLeaks has published an alleged “highly confidential” document outlining the addresses and operational details of Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers called Amazon Atlas. The international whistleblowing organization claims to have published the document as an attempt to shed light on the “largely hidden” locations of cloud-based servers. “While one of the benefits of the cloud is the potential to increase reliability through geographic distribution of computing resources, cloud infrastructure is remarkably centralized in terms of legal control,” WikiLeaks wrote in a statement. “Until now, this cloud infrastructure controlled by Amazon was largely hidden, with only the general geographic regions of the data centers publicized.”

Lawyers for Julian Assange are suing Ecuador, accusing the government of violating Assange’s “fundamental rights and freedoms.” This comes after Ecuador cut off communications with the WikiLeaks founder for months. Assange has been barred up inside Ecuador’s London embassy for more than six years. Last week the country promised to restore his connection while issuing Assange a set of Orwellian guidelines to abide by. Baltasar Garzón, a lawyer for WikiLeaks, has launched a case, which is expected to be heard next week in a domestic court, Sky News reported.

In a statement released by the London embassy, Ecuador’s officials say that Assange's guests will have to make a request to visit the refugee at least three working days in advance. The Ecuadorian government has decided to partly restore communications for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. They were cut in March, denying him access to the internet or phones and limiting visitors to members of his legal team. He has been living inside Ecuador’s embassy in London for over six years. The Ecuadorian government said in March it had acted because Mr Assange had breached “a written commitment made to the government at the end of 2017 not to issue messages that might interfere with other states”. Wikileaks said in a statement: “Ecuador has told WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange that it will remove the isolation regime imposed on him following meetings between two senior UN officials and Ecuador’s President Lenin Moreno on Friday.”

For what exactly, remains unclear. Indeed, the last six years of his life have been shrouded in uncertainty. Granted political asylum in the Ecuadorean embassy in the U.K. in an attempt to prevent extradition to the U.S., and subsequent trial for publishing secret U.S. military documents, Assange is devoid of medical care, access to family and friends, and cyber-communication to the outside world.
