Trump Forces Europe, Korea, Japan To Subsidize And Move Industry To US

U.S. cold warriors have failed to prevent Russia, China, Iran, and other members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) from obtaining their economic independence. That means keeping the fruits of their economic growth for themselves, rather than letting it be drained off by U.S. banks, investors, consumers, and the U.S. Treasury through the monetary dollar standard. Washington’s cold warriors have been unable to stop SCO members from moving forward and becoming independent from U.S. influence. Recognizing that they are unable to prevent this, U.S. policy is focusing now on how to prevent Europe (especially Germany), Japan, and South Korea from becoming industrial rivals and hence threats — while also targeting China and BRICS.

Sweeping Immigration Raid At Hyundai Plant Is An Attack On All Workers

Hundreds of masked federal agents flooded the construction site of a future electric vehicle battery factory at Hyundai Motor’s massive manufacturing complex in Georgia on September 4 to conduct a sweeping immigration raid and a vicious attack on immigrant workers. Over 450 people were arrested at the end of their work day in what is the largest single-site workplace raid since the Trump administration launched its brutal deportation campaign across the country. Those workers are now detained in ICE facilities, cut off from their families, and threatened with deportation. Hyundai and LG Energy Solution, the two companies building the plant, have given carte blanche to law enforcement to conduct its investigation and target the workers building the factory; meanwhile, they have assured their investors that production has not stalled at the other sites at the complex.

Auto workers at Hyundai in Montgomery, Alabama, have signed up more than 30 percent of their nearly 4,000 co-workers in an ambitious drive to unionize. The Auto Workers (UAW) announced the organizing breakthrough with a new video, “Montgomery Can’t Wait,” where workers link the labor and civil rights movements: “Montgomery, the city where Rosa Parks sat down, and where thousands of Hyundai workers are ready to Stand Up.” “There’s something about our fight to unionize being homegrown that makes it just that much sweeter,” said Quichelle Liggins, a 12-year quality inspector at Hyundai.

Child Labor Is Alive And Well In The United States

On July 22, Reuters revealed that a subsidiary of auto giant Hyundai, SMART, had been employing migrant children in Luverne, Alabama. Reuters learned of the underage labor exploitation through local police, the family of three child workers, and eight former and current employees of the subsidiary’s plant. Interviews with former employees and labor recruiters revealed that many minors employed at the plant went without schooling in favor of work. A former worker claimed that the plant, which, according to Reuters, has a “documented history of health and safety violations, including amputation hazards”, employs as many as 50 children. Both Hyundai and SMART deny any responsibility. Hyundai said in a statement that it “does not tolerate illegal employment practices at any Hyundai entity.
