Hundreds Unite To Shut Down Northwest Detention Center

Tacoma, WA – On September 1, the International Migrant’s Alliance – USA (IMA USA) and La Resistencia hosted a rally for solidarity with immigrants and to shut down the Northwest Detention Center. The All Out for Migrant Defense rally was attended by over 850 people. Many of the attendees traveled from Portland, Oregon as part of the closing event of the 2025 IMA USA and Tanggol Migrante Political Conference. This included a large caravan of over 50 cars and two school buses. The Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma has become the place for many organizations to unite to fight the United States’ immigration policy. Other organizations like International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines (ICHRP) Seattle, Bayan Washington, and the Oregon Rising Coalition also attended.

Washington, DC – On Saturday, August 30, the DC Alliance Against Trump Coalition (DCAT) hit the streets again, this time partnering with the Long Live GoGo Foundation to host a march and live GoGo concert on August 30, aimed at fighting the Trump directed occupation of DC. Since Trump’s federalization of DC, starting on August 11, the presence of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), ICE, and National Guard troops has increased their assumed powers over the community with unlawful curfew zones, check points, and kidnappings of residents focused on the immigrant communities. Saturday’s event, dubbed Defend the District, was a powerful and direct anti-Trump response from the DC community, declaring “End the occupation!”

“This fight is all of labor’s fight,” Kevin Gundlach, president of the South Central Federation of Labor, declared at a “solidarity dinner” for 43 immigrant workers who recently lost their jobs at a Monroe, Wisconsin cheese factory. “Even Wisconsinites who don’t know about the story, should know in a cheesemaking state we should support cheesemakers.” The workers, some of whom labored for more than 20 years at W&W Dairy, were told in August they would have to submit to E-Verify screening and confirm their legal status in order to continue their employment after a new company, Kansas-based Dairy Farmers of America (DFA), bought the cheese plant.

As thousands of people took to the streets of Los Angeles to defend their communities against state-sanctioned abductions of immigrants this June, the Senate Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism (SSCC) put three organizations—Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA), and the independent political organization Unión del Barrio (UdB)—on notice. Led by Missouri Senator Josh Hawley, the SSCC normally oversees anti-terrorism enforcement and policy, and directs the work of the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Justice Department Criminal Division.

The Miccosukee Tribe has lived in Florida’s Big Cypress National Preserve since time immemorial. Today, 640 tribal members still call the Everglades home. Their ancestral home now has an unwanted neighbor: a massive immigrant detention center that sits less than 1,000 feet from Miccosukee villages. It was hurriedly built by the state with encouragement and promised funding from the Trump administration. Both ignored a basic requirement — consulting the tribe about building on their ancestral land. This isn't the first time officials have planned grandiose development in the Everglades without consulting the tribe.

A FAIR study found that CNN’s primetime coverage of the Los Angeles anti-ICE protests in early June rarely included the voices of the protesters themselves. Instead, the network’s sources were overwhelmingly current and former government and law enforcement officials. The resulting coverage rarely took issue with Trump’s desire to silence the people who were defending their undocumented neighbors—but mainly debated his decision to deploy the California National Guard to do so.

It was 1968, and I had joined the Marines. After boot camp infantry training in weapons I was assigned the specialty of M60 machine gunner. We were in Okinawa for a while, and then I was sent to Vietnam, to Quang Tri Province near the border with what was then North Vietnam. You should know that in Quang Tri Province, Agent Orange was used heavily. I didn’t know anything about Agent Orange then. We were dropped into Danang, when we were sent out into the jungle, me and a sergeant. I was always in the jungle. The day I got off the plane, that airport and base were being showered with mortar rounds and everyone disappeared.

St. Rose, LA – On June 17, over 20 activists and community members showed up to monitor a building in Saint Rose, Louisiana where ICE called in a large number of people for immigration check-ins. The action was called with a hope to video and deter the ICE kidnappings. “A couple weeks ago, people were getting a text that they have to report to this office at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4. A lot of people were in the waiting room, about 40 people, which is more than usual and seemed really suspicious. It was confirmed that they are detaining people and taking them out back into vans,” Catalina Gallagher, an ICE-watch participant explained.

Protesters And Federal Agents Face Off After Possible Immigration Raid

In Maywood, AIR7 was flying over the area when federal agents deployed some kind of tear gas or smoke bombs on a small crowd of protesters. The crowd quickly dissipated in the chaos, with a lot of people yelling. Things became aggressive after the gas or smoke was deployed. One protester was seen kicking it back toward the federal agents. Video shows multiple SUVs, seemingly belonging to federal agents, stopped on Slauson Avenue near Alamo Avenue, about a block away from where the gas or smoke was deployed. Just moments before that, a protest on Atlantic Avenue in the City of Bell got heated. AIR7 video shows a group of about 100 people who showed up after an immigration operation in the area.
