France Is A State Sponsor Of Terror, AES Countries Declare

“Terrorism is being used” by imperialist forces “to pillage African resources,” said Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister Rimtalba Ouédraogo in his address at the 80th UN General Assembly (UNGA). “A case in point is France,” whose troops Burkina Faso expelled in early 2023. Mali, which had also expelled French troops the year before, had sought a meeting of the UN Security Council in 2022, “so that my country could provide irrefutable proof of France’s support for terrorist activities,” recalled its Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga in his address. “So far, this request has not been followed up on,” while France continues its “sabotage”.

Iran Will ‘Never Seek To Build A Nuclear Bomb,’ Declares President

While addressing the 80th annual session of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, September 24, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated his country’s resolve to not seek a nuclear weapon. Pezeshkian claimed that it is not the threat of sanctions or war but its religious conviction and the dictate of the country’s supreme leader which prevents Iran from developing nuclear bombs and any other kind of weapons of mass destruction. He questioned the countries accusing Iran of developing a nuclear bomb while they themselves possess the “largest nuclear arsenals” and have violated the provisions of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) through the years to make their weapons more deadly. Pezeshkian rejected the allegations as baseless and spurious, claiming Iran’s nuclear program has always been for peaceful purposes.

Conscientious Objection Highlighted In Recent United Nations Reports

These reports reaffirm that conscientious objection is a recognised human right within UN frameworks. Crucially, they link conscientious objection to refugee protection and non-refoulement, underlining that objectors facing persecution must be granted safety. For advocates, these references are valuable tools: they can be cited in policy dialogue, asylum cases, and international advocacy to press governments to respect the right to refuse military service, to provide genuine alternatives, and to end the punishment of objectors. By embedding conscientious objection into the broader UN human rights agenda, these reports strengthen the case for protecting COs everywhere, especially in times of war.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Speaks At UN General Assembly

A few days ago, this building hosted a forum called the Summit of the Future. Russia was supportive of the idea of the Secretary-General to convene it, since the crisis of our Organisation is deepening and something needs to be done about this. We devoted our efforts to preparing the summit. However, we were realistic in our expectations. There have been many ambitious events in the modern history of the United Nations which ended up with loud declarations which were soon forgotten. The Millenium Summit proclaimed the goal to “free the peoples from the scourge of war”. Two years later the United States of America, at the head of the coalition of the willing, invaded Iraq – the country which has yet to get over the devastating consequences of this affair – under a ridiculous pretext, without the mandate of the UN Security Council.

Palestine Takes Seat At UN General Assembly In ‘Historic First’

Palestine was seated for the first time among UN member states on 10 September during the first session of the 79th General Assembly in New York. Permanent Observer to Palestine at the UN, Riyad Mansour, was seated at a table labeled “State of Palestine” between Sri Lanka and Sudan. The seating was approved by UN General Assembly president Philemon Yang. “This is not merely a procedural matter. This is a historic moment for us,” said Egyptian ambassador to the UN Osama Mahmoud Abdelkhalek Mahmoud. Israel’s representative at the UN strongly denounced the seating of Palestine among the UN member states.
