Arrest Warrant Issued For Journalist Amy Goodman

By Laurel Raymond for Think Progress - On September 3rd, Journalist Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! filmed security guards attacking Native American protesters with dogs and pepper spray. The footage was widely covered, garnering significant negative press for the Dakota Access Pipeline company. Erased By False Victory: Obama Hasn’t Stopped DAPL

By Kelly Hayes for Transformative Spaces - All Native struggles in the United States are a struggle against erasure. The poisoning of our land, the theft of our children, the state violence committed against us — we are forced to not only live in opposition to these ills, but also to live in opposition to the fact that they are often erased from public view and public discourse, outside of Indian Country. The truth of our history and our struggle does not match the myth of American exceptionalism, and thus, we are frequently boxed out of the narrative.

Yankton Sioux Tribe Sues US Army Corps, USFWS Over Dakota Access

By Staff of ICTMN - The Yankton Sioux Tribe, Ihanktonwan Oyate, is suing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for allowing the Dakota Access oil pipeline to go through without a full environmental impact study or meaningful consultation. “As chairman of the Ihanktonwan, I and the Ihanktonwan Oyate support the efforts our relatives at Standing Rock and Cheyenne River are taking to protect what we as the Oceti Sakowin hold sacred,” said Business and Claims Committee Chairman Robert Flying Hawk in a statement from the tribe.

Federal Government Steps In To Stop DAPL After Court Rules

By Staff of Counter Current News - In an unexpected development, immediately following the ruling by federal judge denying a Native American Indian tribe’s injunction request Friday to stop a Dallas-based energy company from building a four-state, $3.8 billion oil pipeline, the Departments of Justice, the Interior and the Army requested a halt to the Dakota Access Pipeline’s construction. They explained that the concerns raised by the Standing Rock Sioux tribe required a reconsideration of previous decisions regarding the site, including the one that was just handed down.

Jack Dalrymple said Thursday morning he will activate the North Dakota National Guard ahead of a federal judge's ruling on a request by the Standing Rock Sioux to stop the four-state Dakota Access oil pipeline. Dakota Access Pipeline Resistance: Stay In The Game. We’re Winning

By Gyasi Ross for Indian Country Today Media Network - As has been well chronicled, the Prayer Camps in Cannonball in Hunkpapa Territories have been HUGELY successful in slowing down this well-funded Dakota Access Pipeline. We always should acknowledge that it was prophetic and powerful Native women who began this campaign out oflove, prayer and concernfor the water and the next generations. Thank you LaDonna. For months, in the election-obsessed United States, the mainstream media ignored and disregarded the movement.

Dakota Access Pipeline Builder Spends Millions To Influence Elections

By Kit O'Connell for Mint Press News - AUSTIN, Texas — The corporation behind the controversial Dakota Access oil pipeline also operates its own political action committee that has a record of donating to the campaigns of candidates who support the company’s pro-corporate, pro-fossil fuels agenda in Congress. However, the political war chest of the Energy Transfer Partners PAC amounts to pennies compared to the wealth of Kelcy Warren, the chairman and CEO, who has spent millions becoming one of the most politically powerful oil tycoons in Texas.

Who’s Banking On The Dakota Access Pipeline?

By Staff of Food and Water Watch - The Standing Rock Sioux are inspiring the world with their resistance against the pipeline. But it’s not just Big Oil and Gas that they’re opposing. When the Army Corps of Engineers issued a permit for the 1,100-mile Dakota Access Pipeline in July, executives at the corporations behind the plan probably thought their path forward was clear. They’d moved easily through the permit process, seemingly dodging the concerns of people affected by the pipeline, and were ready to go ahead with construction.

Judge Hauls Dakota Access Into Court After Sacred Sites Bulldozed

By John Zangas for DC Media Group. U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg on Monday ordered parties involved in a standoff over the Dakota Access Pipeline to appear in court on September 6 to hear a motion for an emergency injunction. Tuesday’s hearing is expected to address the desecration of the burial sites which led to a dog attack incident. The same judge had declared at an August 24 hearing that he would issue a decision on a motion for a permanent injunction on work near the Reservation no later than September 9. “On Saturday, Dakota Access Pipeline and Energy Transfer Partners brazenly used bulldozers to destroy our burial sites, prayer sites and culturally significant artifacts,” said Dave Archambault II, Chairman Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, in a press release on Sunday. “They did this on a holiday weekend, one day after we filed court papers identifying these sacred sites. The desecration of these ancient places has already caused the Standing Rock Sioux irreparable harm. We’re asking the court to halt this path of destruction,” he said. The standoff escalated when a private security firm, contracted by Dakota Access Pipeline, LLC brought in a team of attack dogs to hold a line against water protectors.

Weeks Of #NoDAPL Solidarity Actions Planned

By Melinda Tuhus for Beyond Extreme Energy. North Dakota - Our Native American brothers, sisters, relations & settler supporters have assembled at the Sacred Stone Camp and are converging with hundreds of Indigenous Tribal Nations and thousands of Water Protectors at Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in North Dakota. They are holding the line against construction of a pipeline that would carry highly flammable, fracked oil from the Bakken oil fields in that state to Illinois. The pipeline would go under the Missouri River, and protesters — referring to themselves as “protectors” and holding signs such as “Water is Life” — are carrying out radical non-violent resistance. Their numbers swell daily at the Camp of the Sacred Stones and the Red Warriors Camp.
