Settler Violence

Israeli Settlers Torch Factories And Farmland In West Bank Raid

Israeli settlers carried out a large-scale arson attack on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, the latest in a series of army-backed assaults that have surged since October. Dozens of masked settlers targeted an industrial area east of Tulkarm, near Beit Lid, in the attack, setting fire to a dairy factory, surrounding farmland, several buildings and multiple trucks. Settlers also hurled rocks at Palestinians on the scene, wounding at least four people. The fire spread to a nearby nomadic Palestinian community, engulfing their tents.

International Activists Confront Israeli Impunity In The West Bank

On July 22, in the Palestinian village of Ibziq, bright lights pierced through the tent at 12:30 a.m., jolting Baltimore, Maryland-native Nikki Morse and a fellow activist awake. The activists, both from the United States, were confronted by a masked young man who declared in accented English: “Your time is almost up.” Behind him, three others waited on an ATV. His shirt read “Artzeinu” — Hebrew for “our land.” This encounter with Israeli settlers in Ibziq provides a glimpse into the daily reality for Palestinians under constant attack in the occupied West Bank. Since Oct. 7, 2023, B’Tselem, an Israeli human rights organization, says settler violence has reached “unprecedented levels,” with entire communities forcibly displaced, their homes demolished or confiscated, and Palestinians subjected to collective punishment, killings and torture.

Family Of Palestinian-American Man Killed By Settlers Demands US Action

Friday, July 11, marked a profound bereavement for the residents of Al-Mazraa Al-Sharqiyah village northeast of Ramallah, in the central occupied West Bank, after a group of illegal Israeli settlers treacherously murdered two young men of the village. Mohammad Shalabi (23), and Sayfollah Musallet (20) were in Mount Al-Baten, located between Al-Mazraa Al-Sharqiyah and a nearby village called Sinjil, when they were attacked by settlers and killed. A resident of Al-Mazraa Al-Sharqiyah told Peoples Dispatch that illegal Israeli settlers began to vandalize farms belonging to families of the village in Mount Al-Baten over a month ago.

Israeli Settlers Escalate Violence, Forced Displacement Across West Bank

The last few days have witnessed a dangerous escalation of violence, theft, and vandalism against Palestinians by illegal Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank. Settlers attacked Palestinians in the Al-Auja Waterfall area in Jericho on 25 May for the third time in one day, as part of ongoing efforts to displace families who have lived in the area for decades and establish a new illegal settlement outpost. This came a day after settlers, under the protection of the Israeli army, cut off the water supply to the area. In the Salim plain east of the occupied city of Nablus, settlers also continued to set fire to wheat fields on Sunday, coinciding with separate attacks on Palestinian livestock herders in the northern Jordan Valley area.

Trump’s Day One: Sanctions Lifted, Settler Violence Explodes

On his first day in office, Donald Trump lifted all sanctions previously placed on Israeli settlers in the West Bank, a political move that coincided with a series of violent attacks by Israeli settlers targeting Palestinians that same night. While the President has publicly committed to combating violent extremism, extremist settler groups continue to finance their activities through American charities. On Monday night, with the backing of the Israeli military, settler groups launched a series of violent assaults on residents in the West Bank.

Outraged By Gaza Ceasefire, Israeli Settlers Burn Palestinian Homes, Cars

Israeli Jewish settlers rampaged through several Palestinian towns in the West Bank on 19 January in a show of anger at a ceasefire deal that saw the end of fighting between the Israeli army and Hamas in Gaza and the release of Palestinian prisoners and Israeli captives. Settlers across the West Bank organized themselves in an effort to disrupt the release of Palestinians held captive in Israeli prisons and detention centers, where torture and rape are common. Accompanied by soldiers, the settlers attacked Palestinian cars and closed several main roads in Turmus Ayy, Atara, Ein Siniya, Ein Ayoub, Qalqilya, and Jaba on Sunday evening.
