Venezuela February 23: Global Day of Action

The weekend of Saturday, February 23 – the 1 month anniversary of the U.S.-backed coup attempt in Venezuela – has been set as a day of internationally coordinated actions in solidarity with the people of Venezuela and against the U.S., Wall Street, and the Pentagon’s drive to war. Now is an urgent time to mobilize as much solidarity with the people of Venezuela as they come under greater threat by Wall Street, the Pentagon, the U.S. and its allies. Actions of all kinds are needed on February 23 to send a strong message of solidarity and oppose the U.S. drive to war against Venezuela. Actions are being planned for that day, and the days immediately before and after. An initial listing of actions can be found on the website.  www.NoWarOnVenezuela.org/23feb

Nicolás Maduro: An Open Letter To The People Of The United States

There are days that will define the future of our countries between war and peace. Your national representatives of Washington want to bring to their borders the same hatred that they planted in Vietnam. They want to invade and intervene in Venezuela - they say, as they said then - in the name of democracy and freedom. But it's not like that. The history of the usurpation of power in Venezuela is as false as the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. It is a false case, but it can have dramatic consequences for our entire region.

Venezuela: US Pursuing Humanitarian Aid Path To War

The United States has been working with oligarchs in Venezuela to remove President Maduro since he came to office in 2013 after the death of Hugo Chavez and was re-elected that year. After he won re-election to another six-year term in 2018, the regime change planners sought new strategies to remove Maduro, including an assassination attempt last August. The coup campaign escalated recently with the self-appointment of president Juan Guaido, who President Trump and US allies have recognized. Now, the ongoing coup attempt is escalating through a strategy of humanitarian intervention.

US-Led Coup In Venezuela: The Plot Thickens

A lot has happened and we have learned more since last week when we wrote, Venezuela: What Activists Need To Know About The US-Led Coup. This article updates activists so we remain well-informed and can educate others in the face of a bi-partisan and corporate media narrative supporting the coup. This weekend, there were competing protests in Venezuela. At a protest celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Bolivarian Process, the day Hugo Chavez was sworn into office, tens of thousands watched as President Maduro called for National Assembly elections.

A Nonviolent Strategy To Defeat The US Coup Attempt In Venezuela

To the People of Venezuela: Given your existing and ongoing resistance to the coup in defense of your elected government, I would like to offer another avenue of support for you to consider. My support, if you like, to plan and implement a comprehensive nonviolent strategy to defeat the coup. So what is required? I have explained in detail how to formulate and implement a strategy for defeating coup attempts such as this in the book The Strategy of Nonviolent Defense: A Gandhian Approach. The chances of success are vastly enhanced if your struggle, and that of your solidarity allies around the world, is focused for maximum strategic impact and designed to spread the cost of doing so. Remember, it is you who will decide the fate of Venezuela. Not the US elite and not even your President and government.

Venezuela: What Activists Need To Know About The US-Led Coup

Two things stand out about the US coup in Venezuela. First, it is unusually open. Typically, the US tries to hide its coups. Second, the coup is built on a series of obvious falsehoods, yet the bi-partisans in Washington, with a few exceptions, keep repeating them. First, we will correct the falsehoods so readers are all working from the same facts. Second, we will describe how this coup is being defeated. It will be another major embarrassment for the Trump administration and US foreign policy. It is important to understand Venezuela has become a geopolitical conflict

‘Hands Off Venezuela!’ Trump Denounced for Backing Coup d’Etát

Peace groups held a rally at the White House on Saturday to denounce the Trump administration for meddling in Venezuela’s affairs and supporting the overthrow of the democratically elected government of President Nicolás Maduro. Rally speakers accused the U.S. of attempting to foment a coup d’etat and creating a civil war in Venezuela to facilitate a takeover by oligarchs there. The U.S., they said, is not interested in the welfare of Venezuelans but in its oil wealth.

The US Coup: New Attempt To Eradicate The Chavista Revolution

Nicolas Maduro was first elected president in 2013, and the record since then shows the US has repeatedly tried to unseat him and eradicate the Bolivarian revolution, always meeting with failure. The record also shows the US and European Union have continually imposed harsher and harsher sanctions on Venezuela, increasing the suffering of the Venezuelan people in the name of “democracy” and “freedom.” Further coup attempts and sanctions are in the works, and the peace movement in the US needs to more actively defend Venezuela against US aggression.

The US Conflict With China: China And The Uyghurs

The US created the Uyghur problem in Xinjiang by sponsoring terrorists there–the same tactics it used in Cuba, Venezuela, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Libya. Groups like the World Uyghur Congress have offices in Washington D.C. and are funded by the US State Department via the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). The NED’s website admits to meddling and breaks down its targeting of China into several regions including mainland, Hong Kong, Tibet, and Xinjiang/East Turkestan (“East Turkestan” is what Uyghur militants and separatists call Xinjiang).

Webinar Live From Caracas on Presidential Inauguration Day In Venezuela

Nicolás Maduro is set to be sworn in for a second term after winning reelection in May 2018. The Lima Group tells reelected Venezuela President not to take the Oath of Office. Listen to a live report from Caracas on Inauguration Day. Hear how the voting population has responded to Maduro's re-election and how US & Canada sanctions against Venezuela have affected the functioning of government institutions and the daily life of Venezuelan citizens.

Multifaceted Attack Against Venezuela On Eve Of Maduro Inauguration

Venezuelan President Nicholás Maduro’s inauguration for his second term on January 10 is targeted by the US, the allied Lima Group, and the hardline Venezuelan opposition.  They have demanded that Maduro refuse inauguration. A multifaceted attack aimed at regime change is underway using sanctions, military threats, and a campaign of delegitimization to replace the democratically elected president. The Venezuelan people have a long history of resistance to foreign domination and are not likely to view a US-backed "humanitarian" intervention as a liberating force.

Syria After The Defeat Of Imperialism

This article and series of videos show realities we do not see in the western media. The US, NATO, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Turkey have been defeated in their brutal attempt to take over Syria. This is what life looks like in the capital city, Damascus, after dealing with terrorist attacks and mortars (supported by the US). Life is returning to normal. We hope the withdrawal from Syria announced by President Trump continues and pressure from neocons like his National Security Adviser John Bolton and other neocons is defeated. Patrick Coburn describes this conflict in the administration, the inaccurate media reporting in the US and the weak position of the US in Syria...

More Guardian Lies About Nicaragua

“Cathedral protests highlight Ortega’s broken Alliance with Nicaragua’s church” an article in today’s Guardian by Toby Stirling has no true facts – this has become typical of The Guardian’s reporting on Nicaragua. Even the pictures used are full of lies. Nicaragua has been the victim of an attempted coup by the oligarchs, the Catholic church, US financed NGOs and the US and major media like The Guardian have helped them.

The False Doctrine Of Humanitarian Intervention Comes To Nicaragua

I am really angry that passage of the NICA Act in its even worse form, the Nicaragua Human Rights and Anticorruption Act of 2018 (S. 3233), appears to be a fait accompli – and by unanimous consent at that! If this Act has not passed by the time you receive these NicaNotes, please call your Senators using these talking points. If you are leaving a message, don't forget to include your name and zip code.

Why Didn’t Carl David Goette-Luciak Say Something about the Torture He Witnessed?

There has been a great deal of inaccurate and biased reporting about Nicaragua written in support of regime change and presenting a false narrative of what occurred in the Nicaraguan uprising. The article below is about a self-trained reporter, Carl David Goette Luciak, who was the source of consistently biased reporting. He regularly wrote for The Guardian, an outlet that continues to be consistently biased in its coverage. Luciak was lucky he was deported and not prosecuted criminally in Nicaragua as he arguably aided and abetted torture and bloodshed by not reporting on the perpetrators. The article below focuses on his failure to report torture.
