Did Venezuelan Coup Leaders Pocket $70 Million From Citgo’s Stolen US Assets?

Former Exxon Lawyer and Venezuela opposition envoy to Washington, Carlos Vecchio, may have overseen a multi-million dollar fraud scheme since his political allies were handed control of his country’s US-based oil accounts. On June 17, Venezuela’s government claimed that the US Justice Department was opening an investigation into Citgo’s opposition-appointed board of directors. Hours later, the ad-hoc council confirmed it had received a subpoena from US officials. Citgo appeared to confirm the existence of the US government probe, stating that it “received a subpoena from the Department of Justice...

Why Venezuela Is The Vietnam Of Our Time

On April 30, 1975, the United States learned an important lesson. The capture of Saigon by the People’s Army of Vietnam (PAVN) would mark the defeat of the world’s most powerful military force by an army of guerrilla fighters. No matter the scale of its military, or the weight of the iron fist it used to maintain its power, brute force would not always be enough to win wars. The guerrillas possessed a key weapon that the U.S. did not: the support of the people. The U.S. defeat in Vietnam caused a cataclysmic shift in its strategy of warfare, which today has morphed into hybrid warfare.

Actions: No War, No Coup, End The Sanctions, Troops Home Now

As you know, two oil tankers in the Sea of Oman were disabled by explosions on Thursday, June 13.  The US government announced that it was Iran that did it.  Iran knows that such a move would immediately make them suspect and therefore would not do it.  The US statements have been contradicted by the crew of one of the ships and the ships owner and most countries, even allies of the US, have said there is no proof.  This is very much like the Gulf of Tonkin incident that led the US to war with Vietnam leading to 4,000,000 Vietnamese dead and 60,000 US military dead.  Today we know that the Gulf of Tonkin incident never occurred, we were lied to and millions died because of that lie.  Do not let it happen again.  Read the press statement from Iran on the incident here and join us on or around the weekend of July 13 & 14.

From Exxon To “Ambassador”: How Carlos Vecchio Became Venezuela’s Top Coup Lobbyist

May 24th was a day of hard-earned celebration for Carlos Vecchio, the man tasked with leading the Trump administration’s coup attempt in Venezuela from the US capital. His face was largely obscured in the grainy Twitter video of the moment he and his gaggle leaned out of a third-story window and hoisted a brand new flag onto Venezuela’s former diplomatic mission in Washington DC, but Vecchio was clearly beaming as a small crowd of supporters cheered from below.

Venezuela’s Guaido Investigated For Aid Embezzlement

Merida, June 19, 2019 (venezuelanalysis.com) – Venezuelan authorities have opened a new criminal investigation against self-declared “Interim President” Juan Guaido for his role in the “humanitarian aid”corruption scandal unveiled over the weekend. Attorney General Tarek William Saab named Guaido as the accused “mastermind” behind the crimes, arguing that the opposition leader “personally directed the corruption mafia.” The investigation will focus on accusations of money laundering, corruption, and criminal association, and will be led by two public prosecutors.

How The Coup In Venezuela And The US Housing Crisis Are Inextricably Connected

The United States economy is organized such that all commodities, including both weapons and housing, drive the lion’s share of profits upward, into the pockets of a wealthy elite class, at the expense of the masses of working people who generate those profits through their labor power. The functioning of this system in the interest of a tiny few at the expense of the many is made equally apparent by the orchestration of war against Venezuela by the U.S. ruling class and the orchestration of a massive housing crisis within U.S. borders by wealthy developers.

Guaido Staffers Accused Of Embezzling Venezuela Humanitarian Aid Funds

A report published in Miami-based Panampost claims that Rossana Barrera and Kevin Rojas, members Guaido’s Popular Will party, misappropriated funds earmarked for so-called “humanitarian aid” in Colombia. Barrera and Rojas were tapped by the opposition leader to supervise operations in the Colombian border town of Cucuta, which included tending to the soldiers who deserted from the Venezuelan armed forces. Barrera is the sister-in-law of Popular Will lawmaker Sergio Vergara, who is considered one of Guaido’s closest confidants.

Study Linking US Sanctions To Venezuelan Deaths Buried By Reuters For Over A Month

It would indeed have been impossible for a Reuters reporter to be aware of the study if they depended only on Reuters articles to keep informed. The news agency hadn’t mentioned the study since it was released, never mind written an article about it. I asked a contact I have at Reuters about this, and he was also surprised that Reuters hadn’t even mentioned the study. He suggested I query some of Reuters’ Venezuela-based reporters, which I did a few days later. In my email to them, I passed along a list of news articles since August 2017, when Trump first dramatically intensified economic sanctions...

The Embassy Protection Collective Continues, In Court

The Embassy Protectors are continuing their efforts in solidarity with the people of Venezuela by defending themselves in federal court. The next hearing of the four inside Embassy Protectors is July 9 at 9:30 am before the chief judge of the US District Court in Washington, DC, Judge Beryl A. Howell.  If convicted, the Embassy Protectors are facing up to one year in prison and up to a $100,000 fine. Help the Embassy Protectors raise enough money to defend themselves against prosecution by the US government. Donate here.

Sanctions Are Genocidal, And They Are The U.S.’s Favorite Weapon

After withdrawing from the nuclear deal with Iran last year and resuming sanctions last November, the White House in April announced that its goal was to “drive Iranian exports to zero.” To make this drive happen, the White House stopped allowing (my emphasis) countries like India, China, Japan, Turkey, and South Korea to import Iranian oil: dictating to sovereign countries whom they can trade with. The dictating doesn’t stop there. Last December the United States had Canadian authorities detain and imprison a Chinese executive, the chief financial officer of telecom company Huawei.

US Foreign Policy Exposed

In the last week, the realities of US foreign policy have been exposed by a leaked audio tape, a leak about a US attack on the Russian electrical grid, and the US attempts to extradite Julian Assange. All the information points to a foreign policy that violates international law and standards, perpetrates wars and conflict and seeks to undermine press freedom in order to commit its crimes in secret. This is not new information to those of us who closely follow US foreign policy, but these new exposures are broad and are in the mass media where many millions of people can view them and gain a greater understanding of the realities of US actions around the world. Join the People's Mobilization to Stop the US War Machine this September.

US Sanctions In Venezuela: Help, Hindrance, Or Violation Of Human Rights?

The impact of the US sanctions on the Venezuelan population cannot be overstated. More than 300 000 Venezuelans are at risk due to a lack of lifesaving medications and treatment. An estimated 80 000 HIV-positive patients have had no antiretroviral therapy since 2017. Access to medication such as insulin has been curtailed because US banks refuse to handle Venezuelan payments for this. Thousands to millions of people have been without access to dialysis, cancer treatment, or therapy for hypertension and diabetes. Particular to children has been the delay of vaccination campaigns or lack of access to antirejection medications after solid organ transplants in Argentina. Children with leukaemia awaiting bone marrow transplants abroad are now dying. Funds for such health-assistance programmes come from the PDVSA state oil company. Those funds are now frozen.

A Call For People’s Awareness Of Venezuela

In 1999, we decided, as a nation and democratically, to be independent and sovereign, to move towards a model of social justice and equality, as well as to freely make use of our vast wealth. We agreed that such a transition would be made peacefully and democratically. This, our decision, became a threat for the United States administrations, loyal representatives and spokespeople of large capital. They declared war on us since that moment. That war intensified since 2013, when Hugo Chavez passed away. This is not unconventional warfare, they are not launching missiles, nor are they bombing military zones. This is even a more fateful war, causing affliction and damage to the whole population, to boys, girls, women, the elderly, men, civilians, and also to soldiers. It is a war that is leaving appalling injuries.

Mike Pompeo Disappointed By Anti-Chavism Division

What did Mike Pompeo say? This is all about remarks made at a closed-door meeting with Jewish leaders in New York last week, where the diplomat confirmed that Anti-Chavista politicians are divided and impulsive and that efforts made by the United States to keep them together have been harder than what they have publicly shown. “Our conundrum, which is to keep the opposition united, has proven devilishly difficult,” Pompeo said in the meeting, adding that “the moment Maduro leaves, everybody’s going to raise their hands and say ‘Take me, I’m the next president of Venezuela.’
