Sao Paulo Forum: Defending Venezuela Is Defending Our America

The Sao Paulo Forum (SPF) that took place in Caracas just ended on July 28 fittingly within the framework of remembering the 65thanniversary of the birth of Hugo Chavez with a display of affection and respect for the late Comandante with fireworks and all. By all accounts the SPF has been a politically successful event that followed a significant meeting of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries (NAM) that concluded with a strong political declaration and support of 120 governments for the democratically elected Venezuelan government of Nicolas Maduro.

We Believe Regime Change Begins At Home

August 03, 2019 "Information Clearing House" -  I am representing, alongside my colleagues Anya Parampil and Ben Norton, an independent media organization with no formal relationship to this government or any other government. We are here because our government, and a corporate media which acts as an arm of its foreign policy, is pursuing a dangerous and catastrophic policy of siege and regime change. We have seen the catastrophes that this same policy has caused for Central America, for Iraq, for Libya, for Syria...

XXV Sao Paulo Forum Demonstrates Venezuela Is Not Alone!

From July 25-28 the XXV Sao Paulo Forum took place in Caracas, Venezuela, with the participation of 190 organizations, political parties, social movements, workers’ movements, parliamentarians and intellectuals from Latin America, the Caribbean and several continents. The date chosen for this historic meeting had a symbolic character to it. During those four days a number of coinciding historical events were celebrated such as the birth of the Liberator Simón Bolívar, the assault on the Moncada Barracks that marked the beginning of the Cuban revolution and the 65th anniversary of the birth of Commander Hugo Chávez. The Forum of Sao Paulo is the oldest continuing event of progressive unity in Latin America.  The first Forum was held in the city of Sao Paulo Brazil in 1990 as an initiative of the historic leader of the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz and the then leader of the Workers’ Party of Brazil (PT), Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

CBP Agents Interrogate US Citizen, Seize His Phone, After Venezuela Solidarity Trip

A US citizen has told The Grayzone that the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) service detained him on his way home from Venezuela and violated his privacy. Sergio Lazo Torrez, a 31 year-old Nicaraguan-American, said the CBP forced him to open his cellphone, grilled him about his political beliefs, and demanded information about his contact with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Torrez was returning to the Washington, DC area on the evening of August 2 when he was detained by CBP at Dulles International Airport in Vienna, Virginia. He had just participated in a week-long tour of Venezuela with over a dozen US citizens, including this journalist and two other reporters for The Grayzone.

In Venezuela, The Right To Housing Is Made Possible By The Revolution

Camp Amatina is located in an industrial zone, but other camps were also set up “in upper class, middle class and peri-urban areas, adapting to urban contexts with different characteristics” – explains Housing Vice-Minister Nelson Rodríguez. In Amatina there are about 140 families that meet in weekly assemblies. Iraida Morocoima, one of their spokespersons, welcomes visitors to share this experience: “many people among these families had no idea how to hit a brick. There were certainly others who were bricklayers, but most of us were women.

Venezuela: Disturbing Echoes Of History

The United States, Canada and Europe are relentlessly attacking the legitimate, democratically elected Venezuelan government that represents the hitherto marginalized, impoverished, traditionally abandoned popular classes. It is a worldwide campaign to demonize Nicolás Maduro repeating ad nauseam that he is a dictator, without any evidence and despite free elections. It is similar to the “weapons of mass destruction” canard that opened the way to the devastation of Iraq. For example, social media sends out more than 3,600 false news on Venezuela daily.[1]

Juan Guaidó’s Regime Change Lobby

After Juan Guaidó declared himself Venezuelan president on 23 January, the opposition leader immediately sought to legitimise his parallel government by garnering international support. The US, most European states, and large parts of Latin America moved swiftly to recognise Venezuela’s new "interim president" (indeed, US Vice President Mike Pence had already given Guaidó Washington’s blessing), and the opposition leader began announcing his ambassadorial positions before the month’s end.

Tales Of Resistance: Births And Rebirths Of Comandante Chávez

President Hugo Chávez was born on July 28, 1954. However, as Gabriel García Márquez would say, “human beings are not born for good the day their mothers give birth to them, rather life forces them to be reborn time and again.” Thus, Chávez was reborn, by natural birth or emergency C-section, every time the times and the national context demanded he reinvent himself. That is how we got to know Chávez the politician, the philosopher, the historian, the economist, the soldier, the religious man, and you can go on counting. But, in each of these lives, culture was ever present.

“We Are The Vaccine Against Unilateralism”: The Non-Aligned Movement Gathers In Venezuela To Resist The Dictatorship Of The Dollar

Late in the evening on July 19, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif stepped out of a plane and met his Venezuelan counterpart, Jorge Arreaza, on the tarmac outside Caracas with an enthusiastic embrace. Zarif was in town to participate in the ministerial conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).  “Today in the Middle East and the regions of South America and Latin America, the US is creating instability and insecurity,” Zarif declared to reporters gathered for his arrival. “The resistance of the people of Venezuela against the United States is very important for all the countries of the world.”

120 Countries Defend Venezuela At The Non-Aligned Movement Summit In Caracas

The 120 Member States of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries (NAM), approved on Saturday an official document ratifying their recognition to the government of the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro Moros, reject any attempt to expel the South American country from the Organization of the United Nations (UN) and approve the creation of a technical group that will work to combat the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the most vulnerable people.

Western Media Losing Enthusiasm For Failing Coup In Venezuela

When previously unknown Venezuelan opposition politician Juan Guaidó stood up in an East Caracas plaza and declared himself “interim president” of the South American country, Western corporate media were ebullient. In those heady early days, corporate journalists could scarcely conceal their love affair with the 35-year-old politician, whom they likened to Barack Obama (CNN, 2/7/19) and described as a “freedom fighter” (Fox Business, 1/29/19) and Venezuela’s “only democratically elected figure” (MSNBC, 1/24/19), who had “captured the heart of the nation” (New York Times,3/4/19).

Venezuela Recovers From Blackout As Guaido ‘Approves’ Military Treaty Reincorporation

Caracas, July 24, 2019 (venezuelanalysis.com) – Electricity has been gradually restored in Venezuela after a widespread outage affected most of the territory on Monday. The blackout started at approximately 4.45 pm, with Venezuelan authorities blaming an “electromagnetic attack” against the Simon Bolivar Hydroelectric Plant, known as the Guri Dam, the country’s main electricity source. No further details on the nature and source of the attack have been given so far. Power had been restored to most of Caracas by Tuesday morning, despite momentary setbacks. Areas both to the east and west country had service restored already on Monday evening.

The Plot To Overthrow Venezuela

The Plot to Overthrow Venezuela: How the US is Orchestrating a Coup for Oil, as the title suggests, focuses on the horrors inflicted by the U.S. government on Venezuela. This thorough, extremely well-researched, and fully supported exposé covers the current crises in and about Venezuela, intentionally and purposefully instigated by the U.S. to overthrow its current government and plunder the country’s rich oil reserves. Just as importantly it offers rich and revealing historical accounts of America’s past dealings with Venezuela and almost identical scenarios with other Latin American nations, detailing the darkness and corruption that lies at the heart of U.S. foreign policy, and how that has cast a pall of oppression over the entirety of South and Central America...

Venezuela’s Foreign Minister On The ‘Failed’ Coup And Building A New Non-Aligned Movement

Just hours after returning from meetings at the United Nations in New York, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza sat down for a one-on-one interview with The Grayzone’s Anya Parampil. The two discussed Arreaza’s effort to reaffirm international support for the concept of state sovereignty amid the Trump administration’s campaign to overthrow the democratically elected government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.  While in the United States, Arreaza announced the formation of what he described as “an important group” of UN members states...

Venezuela Non-Aligned Movement Demands End Of Sanctions Against Venezuela

Non-Aligned Countries demanded on Sunday that the United States Government immediately lift the economic and financial sanctions imposed on Venezuela. In a statement signed by the members of the international organization, which met for two days in Caracas, the delegations of 120 NAM countries indicated that only Venezuela can decide its fate, no other State can intervene in accordance with the United Nations Charter. NAM countries reject foreign intervention in the South American country and reiterated their commitment to redouble efforts aimed at channeling the Government and the Venezuelan opposition to find a peaceful solution to the problems of the country.
