A Federal Worker Speaks Out: ‘Many Jobs And Services Will Disappear’

In the first month of the new Trump administration, there has been a widespread assault on federal workers led by billionaire Elon Musk and his new 'agency' called DOGE. Thousands of federal workers have lost their jobs, funding for government programs has been suspended and technocrats under Musk have entered agencies and demanded access to privileged data. Clearing the FOG speaks with a current federal worker, John, who is being kept anonymous for protection, about what is happening within federal agencies, the legality of the attacks and how workers are organizing and fighting back. John warns that most federal workers are going to be fired and services are going to be cut without a plan for protecting and serving the public.

Locals Hit Elon Musk Tesla Car Dealers Again

Local grassroots organizers stepped up actions on Saturday for the second weekend outside Elon Musk’s Tesla electric vehicle dealerships in hopes of spurring a boycott against the company. At least four dealerships were targeted in the region as fury rose against the mega-billionaire and world’s richest man. The protests were part of a national effort by many grassroots groups. Local dealerships of the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia (DC-MD-VA) at Georgetown, Washington DC; Rockville, Maryland; Tysons Corner and Arlington, Virginia were among those sites of the weekend protests.

The Movement Supporting Public Employees Is Rising

Thousands of workers hit the streets February 19, all around the country — at federal offices like the Department of Health and Human Services, at Tesla dealerships and public spaces — to declare their opposition to the slashing and burning of public services currently happening under the guise of “efficiency.” Workers focused on billionaire Elon Musk’s power within President Donald Trump’s new administration, through the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). National Park Service workers, standing in the snow, brandished signs reading, “Immigrants didn’t steal my job. The president did.”

Federal Workers Mobilize Against Musk’s And Trump’s ‘Corporate Coup’

Federal employee union members have been speaking out, rallying, and suing, as agency after agency has been hit by Elon Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE)—a private unaccountable entity which has been demanding access to all government records while spreading wild lies about waste and fraud. Around 20,000 workers have been summarily fired so far. Federal workers raised the alarm at over 30 “Save our Services” rallies around the country Wednesday, including in New York, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Philadelphia, Denver, Boston, Boise, Chattanooga and Chicago.

Hundreds March On SpaceX Building In Washington, DC

Washington DC—A coalition of Federal workers, allies, and a network of unions gathered at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center to denounce the Trump-Musk shutdowns and takeovers of Federal agencies, and firings of thousands of Federal workers. Several hundred then marched a few blocks away to the 1200 block of F Street where the Elon Musk SpaceX rocket headquarters is housed. They stopped at the front entrances shouting “Hey hey, ho ho, Elon Musk has got to go!” As they arrived at the doors their fury was evident.

Attacks On Veterans Administration Federal Workers Hurt Everyone

The Trump administration is attempting an attack on federal workers at every agency and is allowing Elon Musk access to sensitive data. Federal workers are organizing and fighting back. In less than two months, one federal worker union, AFGE, has gained over 16,000 new members compared to 7,400 new members in all of 2024. Clearing the FOG speaks with Suzanne Gordon of the Veterans Healthcare Policy Institute about what is at stake and what workers are doing to resist efforts to force them out of their jobs. Gordon also explains why the Veterans Health Administration is a model of health care for the country and the work the VA does to benefit everyone.

Thousands Rally On Presidents Day Against Trump Musk Takeover

Washington DC—Federal workers, their families, and supporters continued their grassroots demonstrations in opposition to increasing aggressive agency takeovers and takedowns by the Trump-Musk presidency. Thousands took part in the President’s Day protest at the US Capitol Reflecting Pool demanding Congress act now against what many say is an illegal and unconstitutional power grab by the executive branch of government. The group 50501 organized the Monday afternoon demonstration at which speakers warned in no uncertain terms that the multi-billionaire Elon Musk was on the verge of permanently disabling by dismantling the Federal government without any legal authority and with no transparent plan to replace it.

Protesters Target Elon Musk Tesla Car Dealerships

Citizens angry with Elon Musk’s DOGE takeover of Federal government agencies rallied outside multiple mega-billionaire Tesla dealerships Saturday to tell him they aren’t putting up with his Federal government cuts and his explanation for the cost cutting “mandate“ policies. It was the first salvo in what may become a grassroots movement targeting the billionaire’s commercial interests and empire as the result of his bullying tactics of Federal government agencies, workers and operations. Protesters rallied outside Rockville MD Tesla, Georgetown Washington DC Tesla, and Arlington VA Tesla dealerships while drivers honked in support as they went by.

It’s Time For A United Front To Take On Billionaire Rule

President Donald Trump relishes deploying the “weave,” his vulgar stream-of-consciousness spiels in which his vengeful fantasies and antipathy towards a cast of enemies become punchlines in an insult-comic routine. His far-right former adviser Steve Bannon has termed the Trump administration’s psychological warfare approach “flooding the zone.” “Every day we hit them with three things,” Bannon told PBS’s Frontline in 2019. “They’ll bite on one, and we’ll get all of our stuff done. Bang, bang, bang. These guys will never — will never be able to recover. But we’ve got to start with muzzle velocity.”

DOGE Is Hiring; The Response Did Not Disappoint

This week, word got out that the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, was looking to hire “world-class talent to work long hours identifying/eliminating waste, fraud and abuse.” It turns out that people had a lot of ideas about who should apply for those jobs. Elon Musk and his team of 19-24 year old tech minions have been bulldozing through federal agencies, hacking into sensitive data, shutting down USAID, threatening federal workers with termination, and a host of other illegal and questionable activities. Protests against Musk and DOGE erupted in cities nationwide.

Federal Workers Can Defeat Musk’s Coup

Who can stop Elon Musk? Even though it’s illegal for him to seize control of federal agency finances to slash the workforce, a Republican Congress is unlikely to assert its legally mandated prerogatives. Nor has any serious opposition emerged from the Democratic Party. And while the courts have paused some of this power grab, there’s no guarantee that our hyper-conservative Supreme Court will seriously oppose it. Moreover, Musk’s wrecking crew can impose a huge number of cuts while legal proceedings wind their way through the courts.

Labor Fights Back Against Attacks On Federal Workers

Following a legal response by organized labor, one of Trump’s early attacks against the US federal workforce have been temporarily halted. On Thursday, February 6, Trump’s deadline to furlough millions of federal workers if they did not accept a buyout offer was paused following an injunction by a federal judge in Boston. This pause came less than 11 hours before the deadline for workers to accept the buyout offer, which 65,000 federal workers did—agreeing to leave their jobs in exchange for eight months of pay and benefits through September.

Federal Workers’ Unions See DOGE-Inspired Surge

In their aggressive bid to upend the federal government, Elon Musk and his lieutenants have, perhaps unintentionally, driven thousands of federal workers into the arms of one of the biggest enemies of their sweeping project. Organized labor. Unions that represent federal government workers are reporting significant increases in signups since President Trump took office and empowered Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency” to drastically slash the federal workforce. The American Federation of Government Employees, the largest union representing federal workers, added 5,575 new members in the first six days of February alone Organized labor. Unions that represent federal government workers are reporting significant increases in signups since President Trump took office and empowered Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency” to drastically slash the federal workforce.

We Are Stronger Than We Think

The Trump-Musk administration has moved rapidly, ruthlessly and often illegally to consolidate authoritarian control and empower billionaires at the expense of ordinary people. In an administrative coup guided by Project 2025, the White House has sought to dismantle the separation of powers and deny critical services, punishing working people at home and abroad. Making good on his promises of revenge and retribution, Trump has sicced the Justice Department and IRS on perceived enemies, notably those who believe in a more diverse, equitable and inclusive America.

Federal Workers Are Staying At Their Posts

The Trump administration is trying to push federal workers out of government, which will cripple the government’s ability to serve the public in many ways. But unions have been resisting and federal workers have been saying no thank you. A federal judge has extended the February 6 deadline for accepting these offers till Monday. Two of the largest unions representing this workforce — the American Federation of Government Employees and NFFE — advised members not to take the bait. California Attorney General Rob Bonta urged federal employees to take the unions’ advice and “to be very cautious” of the offer.
