US Planning New Military Bases In Middle East, Asia, And Africa

Dan Wright for Shadow Proof - Not satisfied with sowing greater chaos and despair in the Middle East for the last decade, the Obama Administration is reportedly planning for the U.S. to expand its imperial footprint throughout Africa, Asia and other parts of the Middle East with a series of new military bases. The base plan was reportedly submitted this year by now-former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey. The U.S. already has military personnel in 135 countries, with the Department of Defense’s own reports acknowledging the existence of over 660 U.S. military bases abroad.

US Veterans Join Okinawa Protests Against US Base

By Staff of Space 4 Peace - We were up early yesterday morning and on the road to Camp Schwab where there was a 6:00 am gate blockage against the early construction work on the proposed Marine airfield twin-runways that will be plunked down in pristine Oura Bay. Our Veterans For Peace delegation was warmly received by the more than 100 Okinawan citizens who were already gathering in front of the gate when we arrived. Many of them were elderly and protest leaders had them chanting and singing even before the sun rose.

An Island Off Korea Takes On The U.S. Military Machine

By Ellen Davidson for Stop These Wars - A daily ritual begins early in Gangjeong Village on Jeju Island, South Korea, site of a joint U.S.-South Korean deepwater naval base. At 7 am every morning, activists at the entrance to the military base, begin a “100 bows” prayer. Police are lined up around them to make sure they don’t block construction vehicles. On this particular morning, this spiritual presence is augmented by Catholic peace workers, some of whom spent the previous night here in the raw damp. A mattress lies by the side of the road, occupied by Father Mun, one of the most famous radical priests in Korea. When he gets up, he is surrounded by an entourage of police who move with him as he walks, blocking his way if he tries to go too close to the road into the base. At one point, he shakes his cane at them, shouting in Korean that he is not a contagious disease to be quarantined this way.

U.S. Appeals Court Withholds Release Of Memos On Targeted Killings

By Alex Dobuzinskis and Paul Tait for Reuters - Memorandums on the legal basis for targeted killings of people in other countries that the U.S. government believes are involved in militant attacks can be kept secret, a federal court ruled in a document released on Monday. A three-judge panel of the New York-based U.S. 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals denied an effort to obtain the memos by the New York Times and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act. The ruling was detailed in a 22-page opinion reached last month but placed under temporary seal.

Okinawa: Sit-In Protest To Stop US Military Base

By Staff of Enough - 76.1% of Okinawans and the current Okinawa Governor, Takeshi Onaga, are opposed to the construction of a new U.S. military base off Henoko in Nago as a replacement for the Futenma U.S. military base. U.S. military bases occupy 17% of the total land area of Okinawa. In this video, Ohata joins Okinawa residents, mainly the elderly, in a nonviolent sit-in protest at the Henoko Gate, in blocking the entry of construction vehicles into the Henoko site. Ordinary Japanese and the people of the world have woken up to the haughty, high-handed ways of their governments who no longer heed the wishes of their citizens. #Enough! It’s time to nonviolently abolish the method of war, including the war-making and war preparations of U.S. and other military bases.

Shipyard Protest – Unity Of Message

By Bruce K. Gagnon for Space 4 Peace - It was a good day yesterday in Bath at our protest at the Navy shipyard 'christening' of another Aegis destroyer. These warships have nothing to do with defense - they fire offensive first-strike attack cruise missiles, the interceptor missiles on-board have shown they can function as Anti-satellite (ASAT) weapons since one was used to once knock a malfunctioning US military satellite out of the sky. These same interceptors have been developed to serve as the 'shield' after the Pentagon's first-strike attack is launched against Russia or China. We had about 75 folks join us from throughout the state. We were very proud of the crew of folks who hung the long banner on the Bath bridge facing the shipyard on the Kennebec River.

Buddy Bell: The China Pivot

By Staff of Z Communications Daily Commentary - For the last week, I’ve been walking on a peace march organized by the Nipponzan Myohoji order of Buddhist monks. This march is similar in some ways to another: the Okinawa “Beggars’ March” of 1955-1956. At that time, farmers who had been forcefully removed from their fields by U.S. soldiers in the years following World War II acted peacefully to demand the return of their land, which was the source of their entire livelihood. Some of the farmers had their land stolen at gunpoint. In other cases, U.S. soldiers posing as surveyors duped them into signing English land-transfer documents that were passed off as invoices for the false land surveys.

US Military’s Child Rapes In Colombia Not US Newsworthy

An 800-page independent report commissioned by the US-friendly Colombian government and the radical left rebel group FARC found that US military soldiers and contractors had sexually abused at least 54 children in Colombia between 2003 and 2007 and, in all cases, the rapists were never punished–either in Colombia or stateside–due to American military personnel being immune from prosecution under diplomatic immunity agreements between the two countries. Thus far, however, these explosive claims seem to have received zero coverage in the general US press, despite having been reported on Venezuela’s Telesur(3/23/15), the British tabloidDaily Mail (3/24/15) and Russian RT (3/25/15). But why? These aren’t fringe claims, nor can the government of American ally Colombia be dismissed as a peddler of Bolivarian propaganda.
