Over 150 New York Times Contributors To Boycott Paper Over Gaza Coverage

More than 150 New York Times contributors have signed a pledge not to write for the US newspaper's opinion section, citing its “biased coverage” of the Israel-Palestine conflict and war on Gaza. “Until The New York Times takes accountability for its biased coverage and commits to truthfully and ethically reporting on the US-Israeli war on Gaza, any putative 'challenge' to the newsroom or the editorial board in the form of a first-person essay is, in effect, permission to continue this malpractice,” the signatories to the letter wrote. “Only by withholding our labor can we mount an effective challenge to the hegemonic authority that the Times has long used to launder the US and Israel’s lies,” the writers added.

Tesla Car Boycott Goes Global In Defiance Of CEO Musk On Week Seven

The decentralized grassroots actions have targeted the world’s richest man, Elon Musk over his continued interference in Federal government operations. A surge of anger towards the mega billionaire has fueled the Tesla dealership boycott actions which are now in their seventh week. The boycotts are credited with taking down, at least in part, over 40% of the car company’s stock value.

Colombian President Suspending Military Material From Israel

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, announced on Thursday the suspension of the purchase of war material from Israel in response to the attack that occurred that same day during the distribution of food in the Gaza Strip, which left more than 100 Palestinians dead. Both countries have been arms partners for more than three decades. In the 90s, Colombia bought 24 Kfir fighter jets from Israel, which are already about to reach their useful life, so the Government is looking for a way to replace them, although it still needs spare parts and services from the air industry of Israel for the maintenance of the old aircraft.

Can Boycotts Help Workers Win?

The recent uptick in labor organizing has prompted not only a rise in strikes, but also the return of an old labor weapon: the boycott.  While boycott campaigns generally have a mixed record at best, this tactic was used successfully in the recent unionization and first contract victories at Burgerville in Oregon as well as Spot Coffee in upstate New York — a campaign that set the stage for the subsequent Starbucks upsurge. Raising the slogan, “No Contract, No Field Trips,” unionizing workers at Medieval Times in New Jersey and California are now linking up with K-12 teachers to boycott the company until it stops its alleged union-busting.
