Mexico’s President AMLO Is Delivering The Change He Promised

Mexico is in a period of profound change and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and his Morena Party are charting a dramatically new path for the country. Jeremy Corbyn lost the election but one of his political friends, the progressive Mexican leader named Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, has been in power for one year. He is carrying out the plans and priorities described in his 2018 book, “New Hope for Mexico.” With 129 million people, Mexico is the 10th most populous country in the world. It has the largest population of any Spanish speaking country and is twice the size of the United Kingdom.

No Final Defeat

Now is the time of monsters, as Gramsci once wrote. The morning after the 2017 election, socialists across Britain felt as if they’d woken up “in a country they didn’t know existed”;1 on Friday, they woke up once again in a country whose various pathologies and malfunctions they were only too familiar with. Over the preceding few weeks, thousands of them had mobilised, aware of the scale of the task but resolute in their efforts, in pursuit of a radical Labour government, one they hoped would be serious...

Did The Dems Just Lose The 2020 Presidential Election?

It’s appropriate that Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) wore a black dress when she presided on Wednesday evening, December 18th, over the House of Representatives when they voted for two Articles calling for the Impeachment of President Donald Trump. Black is generally the color of choice for a proceeding having a requiem/funeral theme. I recall this clearly from my altar boy days. Unfortunately, Pelosi and the Dems thought they were burying Trump politically with their over-hyped Articles of Impeachment campaign.

A New President Elected In Algeria Amid Large-Scale Popular Boycott

On December 12, Algeria held the first presidential elections since the resignation of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika in April after massive protests were held demanding he step down. Following Bouteflika’s resignation the protests continued and the people’s demands were broadened to call for the dismantling of the current political system. Protesters called for a boycott of the December 12 elections as the candidates were alleged to be associated with the previous regime. According to official figures, only 41% Algerians exercised their voting right in the heavily boycotted elections.

Industry Seeks To Flatline Universal Health Care

When U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren rolled out details of her Medicare for All plan at the beginning of November, she didn’t merely answer her fellow Democratic presidential contenders, who were clamoring to know how she proposed to pay for it. Warren also handed a few pages from her playbook to her plan’s real opposition, the Partnership for America’s Health Care Future, a consortium of sometimes disparate health-industry heavyweights, from insurance companies to private hospitals to Big Pharma.

The Push To Overturn Felony Disenfranchisement In Southern States

In the last U.S. presidential election in 2016, 6.1 million Americans could not vote because of laws that disenfranchise people with past felony convictions. In all, 32 states permanently disfranchise at least some people with felony convictions, while Kentucky and Iowa permanently disenfranchise everyone who's committed a felony. In six Southern states — Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Virginia — more than 7 percent of the adult population is disenfranchised because of such laws, which have disproportionate impacts on minorities and the poor.

Venezuelan Government Denounces Right-Wing Terrorist Plan

Venezuelan Communication Minister, Jorge Rodriguez, denounced a terrorist plan Saturday led by the right-wing opposition,  which was fortunately dismantled, but that it intended to attack detachments of the Venezuelan National Guard. Venezuelan Communication Minister, Jorge Rodriguez, revealed Saturday details of a terrorist operation that was intended to be perpetrated against the Gran Mariscal Sucre Headquarters and the Zonal Command No. 53 of the Bolivarian National Guard in the state of Sucre.

Congress Must Vote ‘NO’ On NAFTA 2.0!

It’s been called a “historic bipartisan trade pact.” Donald Trump hailed it as a “victory” for his administration and for the American people. Nancy Pelosi called it a trade agreement that is “infinitely better” than both NAFTA and Trump’s initial proposal. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka insisted that the USMCA has been “fixed” — that “swift and certain labor enforcement mechanisms” are now in place. But is this really a victory for working people? Is the USMCA fundamentally different from NAFTA? To answer these questions, it is worth looking at how the financial press has covered the story.

American Muslims To Democrats: ‘Palestine Is A Foreign Policy Priority’

Activists and academics gathered in Chicago over the weekend for the 12th annual American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) convention, calling on American Muslims and the Democratic Party to prioritise Palestine as a foreign policy issue.  Those present at the convention overwhelmingly expressed the view that if a Democrat is elected president in 2020, the momentum built in the last few years over issues impacting Palestinian self-determination needed to be carried into the White House. The conference, organised by AMP, a national, grassroots organisation focused on educating the public on political and cultural issues related to Palestine...

Morales’ MAS Defines Strategy For Elections And A Solution To The Political Crisis

Political leaders, legislators, representatives of various social movements, grassroots organizations and trade unions from all the departments of Bolivia took part in the MAS assembly in Cochabamba on December 8. On December 7, the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS), the left-wing political party of the ousted Bolivian President Evo Morales, held an assembly in the city of Cochabamba. The central aim was to reorganize the party and popular organizations to take steps to confront the current social and political crisis in the country before the presidential elections in 2020.

The Left Is Finally Winning The War Of Ideas

Good ideas are like viruses. They grow and spread despite our best efforts to stop them. And yes, our bulbous, awkward species does indeed work very hard to catch and kill good ideas. At the time I write this column, the first Democratic primaries are approaching with the zest and excitement of an unavoidable bowel movement. Even if you read this a year or two or 10 from now, primaries will still be advancing toward you. As sure as the universe expands, the primaries approach. The moment we finish one election season, another is on the horizon.

House Compromises Away Peace, Senate Stands By War

“The Senate recedes with an amendment that would express the sense of Congress that, among other things, a sustained credible diplomatic process based on concrete measures to achieve the denuclearization of North Korea and an eventual end to the Korean War should be pursued. The amendment would also express that continued actions by North Korea that run counter to diplomatic negotiations call into question North Korea’s intentions and commitment to a diplomatic solution.”

Report Unmasks FBI Intervention In 2016 Elections

The report issued Monday by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz on the FBI investigation into the 2016 Trump election campaign documents the extraordinary political role played by this key police/intelligence agency in influencing the outcome of the 2016 election. The report underscores the fraud of the effort by the Democrats to impeach Trump on the grounds that he has invited “foreign intervention” into the 2020 elections. The greatest threat to American democracy comes not from Russia or any other foreign country...

The Great American Shakedown

The Democratic Party and its liberal supporters are perplexed. They presented hours of evidence of an impeachable offense, although they studiously avoided charging Donald Trump with impeachable offenses also carried out by Democratic presidents, including the continuation or expansion of presidential wars not declared by Congress, exercising line-item veto power, playing prosecutor, judge, jury and executioner to kill individuals, including U.S. citizens, anywhere on the planet, violating due process and misusing executive orders.

The Agents Of Chaos Have Failed – The “Axis Of The Resistance” Has The Upper Hand In Lebanon

For several weeks now, much of the Lebanese population has turned on the country’s traditional political leaders and wrought havoc on the corrupt domestic political system. Those who have ruled the country for decades have offered little in the way of reforms, have paid little attention to the infrastructure, and done little or nothing to provide job opportunities outside the circle of their clients. The protestors were also driven into the street by the US measures strangling the Lebanese economy and preventing most of the 7-8 million expatriates from transferring financial support (around $8 billion per year) to their relatives back home.
