2,000 Troops Withdraw From Los Angeles; Fuera ICE!

At the end of May, the Trump administration began increasing its attacks on the immigrant community and the working class of Los Angeles. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids targeted schools and places of work for precarious workers like Home Depot and the garment district. In response to the attacks, including the arrest of union members like SEIU union president David Huerta, community members organized protests and mobilizations. Combative street confrontations have taken place against ICE, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), and sheriffs. And President Trump deployed thousands of National Guard troops who assisted ICE and local law enforcement in brutalizing the community.

Minnesotans Denounce ICE Kidnappings At Federal Court

St. Paul, MN – Hundreds attended a press conference on Monday, July 14 organized by the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee (MIRAC) to demand ICE stop kidnapping people after immigration hearings in the federal courthouse. The press conference was called in response to what MIRAC members witnessed a few days before while they accompanied a community member to immigration court. While there, they watched as Judge Brian Sardelli dismissed all cases. Judge Sardelli has a denial rate of 78.4% reported in 2024 compared to the national average of 57.7%.

ICE Kidnappings Mirror World War II Germany

Arlington, VA—If anything is true about Tesla Takedown Arlington activists, it’s that they’re not afraid to take on bullies. On Saturday, they went after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), slamming it for its illegal kidnapping policy and the state-created chaos the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is spreading across the country. Several protestors brought signs written in Spanish “Chinga la Migra por Vida,” translating to F— ICE forever. This message connected with many dozens of Latino motorists passing the Arlington Tesla showroom on their way to and from weekend yard work, or various labor-intensive employments, judging by the tools and equipment they carried in their truck beds.

Trump’s ICE Raids Target Working-Class Immigrants, Not Criminals

Following Donald Trump’s pledge to detain 3,000 undocumented immigrants per day, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids have surged across the United States. California, home to an estimated 2.8 million undocumented immigrants as of 2023. has emerged as a primary target. Department of Homeland Security official Kristi Noem traveled to Los Angeles for a press conference, declaring the government’s intent to “bring in criminals that have been out on our street far too long.” But data tells a different story. According to ICE datasets analyzed by the Los Angeles Times, during the first 10 days of June, ICE arrested 722 undocumented immigrants in California.

The IRS Is Building A Vast System To Share Taxpayers’ Data With ICE

The Internal Revenue Service is building a computer program that would give deportation officers unprecedented access to confidential tax data. ProPublica has obtained a blueprint of the system, which would create an “on demand” process allowing Immigration and Customs Enforcement to obtain the home addresses of people it’s seeking to deport. Last month, in a previously undisclosed dispute, the acting general counsel at the IRS, Andrew De Mello, refused to turn over the addresses of 7.3 million taxpayers sought by ICE. In an email obtained by ProPublica, De Mello said he had identified multiple legal “deficiencies” in the agency’s request.

The Battle For The Future Of Farmwork

The jail where they have taken his wife is very cold and very far away. In the weeks since immigration agents pulled her off the work bus, she has been in jail and he has kept working at the vegetable farm where they worked together. She calls him from a detention center in another state and tells him about the cold, how the prisoners complain about the cold but the guards do nothing. She has fallen into un hueco now, he says — a hollow, a hole, a gray area. His name is not Carlos, but he doesn’t want his real name published because he doesn’t want to be taken. We sit in his friend’s one-room apartment in an old two-story house in the upstate New York town of Albion, population 7,400.

Protesters Block GEO Detention Facility Demanding ‘Free Jeanette Now!’

Aurora, CO – On July 7, over 500 community members gathered in a powerful show of solidarity outside the Aurora GEO Detention Facility, demanding the immediate release of Jeanette Vizguerra and all political prisoners. For the past three months, community members have held weekly Monday vigils for Vizguerra , who has been unjustly detained at the GEO facility for her political organizing. Over 20 organizations have joined this growing movement, culminating in the July 7 day of action. With slogans like “Free Jeanette now” and “Oversight now,” protesters demanded immediate accountability for the reported human rights abuses occurring within the privately run detention center.

On CNN, Los Angeles’ ICE Protesters Were Seen And Not Heard

A FAIR study found that CNN’s primetime coverage of the Los Angeles anti-ICE protests in early June rarely included the voices of the protesters themselves. Instead, the network’s sources were overwhelmingly current and former government and law enforcement officials. The resulting coverage rarely took issue with Trump’s desire to silence the people who were defending their undocumented neighbors—but mainly debated his decision to deploy the California National Guard to do so.

Philosophy Professor Reportedly Assaulted And Abducted By ICE

Jonathan Caravello, a lecturer in philosophy at California State University Channel Islands, was reportedly “piled on by multiple agents all at once” as “he tried to help a man in a wheelchair” who was having difficulty moving after Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents threw canisters of tear gas at them and their fellow protestors, with, according to witnesses, “one canister landing under the wheelchair.” ICE, with the help of National Guard members, was conducting a raid at Glass House Farms this past Thursday. According to the Los Angeles Times, the Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE) learned of the raids, spread the word, and protestors and others arrived on the scene.

Tiger Teams To Concentration Camps

This week on State of Play, host Greg Stoker is joined by Jalyssa Dugrot, an independent journalist recently arrested while covering anti-ICE protests for MintPress News in Los Angeles, and Robert Inlakesh, a Middle East analyst and MintPress contributor known for his reporting on politics, repression, and empire, to examine a rapidly expanding surveillance regime that connects U.S. immigration enforcement to Israeli military intelligence and private tech firms. In early 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) assembled a covert unit called the “Tiger Team,” a task force supposedly created to address “critical threats.”

Fight ICE; Build The Union

It was the morning of June 9, and Genie Kastrup, president of Service Employees Local 1, stood in front of Chicago’s Daley Plaza and bellowed into a microphone. “What is happening right now is about silencing voices,” she said, flanked by members of her union holding signs that read “Free David Huerta.” “It's about dividing working people,” she continued. “It's about dividing our communities against the have and have nots. It is abusing power.” The demonstration was one of 37 taking place that day across the country to protest the June 6 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) assault and detention of Huerta, the president of SEIU California and SEIU-United Service Workers West.

ICE Wants To Work In Secret

Interested in what Immigration and Customs Enforcement is up to? Step right up to read ICE’s many press releases touting their accomplishments, watch Dr. Phil’s ICE ride-alongs on his new TV network, and, of course, follow ICE on social platform X. Just don’t expect to read independent reporting about ICE activity — at least not if government officials get their way. Journalists and members of the public who report on ICE are increasingly under attack by officials who would prefer to silence them so government propaganda can fill the information void.

Who Are The Real Terrorists?

Who are the real terrorists?  That is one of the important questions we all need to be asking ourselves.  It is a big challenge to write about this because every day there is a new deportation-related atrocity.  Now the deportation problem is active even in peaceful Hawai`i, where I live, and the picture is hideous and cruel.  The vicious effects of alarming, illegal, and lethal behavior by government agencies and departments, from the local to the federal level, are plain to see in this state, just as they are plain to see in almost every state.  It is an ugly picture that we, the people, cannot allow.  It is a reign of terror.

Activists Challenge Company As Stores Become Site Of Ice Raids

“ICE has been kidnapping day laborers from Home Depots across the country,” said Jorge Torres, an immigrant rights organizer with the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON), as he led a march of dozens of activists through a Home Depot in East Windsor, New Jersey. “We are sending a message from New Jersey, all the way to Los Angeles, that we will not allow Home Depot to keep cooperating with ICE.” On July 3, dozens of immigrant rights activists protested at a Home Depot store in East Windsor and to deliver a letter of demands to the store’s manager. “We no longer feel safe going into your Home Depot store,” said an immigrant rights activist, reading from the demands letter.

As ICE Raids Intensify, Trained Volunteers Patrol LA Streets

The day after families across the country gathered to celebrate Father’s Day, Francisco Romero huddled at dawn with 10 volunteers in a South Los Angeles parking lot. The group was preparing to patrol the neighborhood for signs of Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity. There was a heaviness in the atmosphere, despite the comradery and smiles. During the group huddle, some reflected on the difficulty celebrating Father’s Day while families across the city were being separated by ICE. Another volunteer mentioned viral videos from the prior weekend showing apparent ICE presence in the nearby city of Bell, including “snatch and grabs,” in which unmarked vehicles surrounded pedestrians suspected of being undocumented and ICE officers pulled them inside.
