Border Patrol And ICE Agents Are Arresting US Citizens

Since federal agents descended onto Los Angeles streets in early June, several United States citizens have been detained and held in immigration detention centers. A Capital & Main review of local reporting, video and social media posts found at least nine citizens were taken into custody by agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement or U.S. Customs and Border Protection after protesting near or observing immigration raids in the Los Angeles area since June 6. Two are currently facing federal charges.  Job Garcia arrived at the Home Depot in Hollywood for his delivery gig for another company on the morning of June 19 expecting to have a regular day.

Immigration Officers Smash Car Windows To Speed Up Arrests

A month into the new Trump administration, on the predawn streets of suburban Maryland, a high-ranking ICE official stood alongside a Mazda sedan that his officers had just stopped. The official told a local TV reporter at the scene what was about to happen. “He can either give us a license,” he said, “or we’ll smash the fucking window out and drag him out.” Then, as the driver refused to exit the car, officers broke the glass. It was one of nearly 50 documented instances of immigration agents breaking vehicle windows that ProPublica has identified from social media, local news accounts, lawsuits and interviews since President Donald Trump took office six months ago.

Charges Dropped Against Anti-ICE Protester Alejandro Orellana

Los Angeles, CA – On July 29, the federal government announced the conspiracy charges against Chicano activist Alejandro Orellana were dropped – a victory for Centro CSO and all freedom fighters in the immigrant rights movement fighting against ICE terror! On June 12, the FBI, National Guard, and the East LA Sheriff station raided Orellana’s home. They arrested Orellana, destroyed his family home, and locked him up at the Metropolitan Detention Center that has been the site of many anti-deportation protests. The Justice Department charged him with conspiracy to commit civil disorder and aiding and abetting civil disorder, which could have resulted in up to five years in prison for Orellana.

Portland And Chicago Activists Demand Shut Down Of ICE Facilities

Portland, OR – On July 16, around 50 protesters gathered at the Portland city council meeting space for a press conference and rally to demand Portland city council revoke the permit for the ICE Field Office at 4310 S Macadam Avenue in Portland. The press conference was organized by Revoke the ICE Permit, a coalition of groups organizing to get ICE out of Portland. In 2011, the Portland city council approved a conditional use permit for the field office, allowing it to operate. One of the conditions for the conditional use permit was a 12-hour limit on the holding of detainees. A recent Fox 12 Oregon investigation found the office has violated this condition many times.

Farmworkers Organize Three-Day Strike In California

At 10:20 a.m. on July 10, some 500 community supporters responded to a Rapid Response Hotline alert by UndocuFund announcing that armored vehicles were heading toward migrant farmworkers at two southern California Glass House farms in Camarillo and Carpinteria, California. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and members of the National Guard descended on the farms. They used weapons and threats of deportation to terrorize the farmworkers — who work seven days a week raising tomatoes, cucumbers and legal cannabis — and their families. Supporters were met with tear gas as they threw rocks and faced off against the troops.

Colorado Activists Fight To Disable Cameras Aiding Arrests

Denver-based activists are seeking to shut off Flock ALPR (Automated License Plate Recognition) cameras in their city after reports indicate that the footage collected is being used for ICE arrests and to infringe on abortion rights. Flock ALPR cameras take photos of the license plates of passing cars, and are used by law enforcement throughout the country to track down vehicles. According to data reviewed by 404 Media, although Flock does not have a direct contract with ICE, the agency obtains data from Flock cameras through requests made to local law enforcement.

Farmworker Fear Of A General Strike Exposes Stranglehold On Migrants

This week, California farmworkers protesting the recent death of 57-year-old Jaime Alanís García after he broke his neck fleeing militarized ICE agents in Ventura County on July 10, chose to observe the “Huelga para la dignidad,” or “Strike for Dignity.” Most, however, did not. And the reason they did not has everything to do with Trump administration policies designed to perpetuate an unrepresented class of workers in this country consigned to a state of virtual slavery. The Trump-directed raids on poor California farmworkers makes zero economic sense when you consider the current president’s supporters in agribusiness simply cannot do without the cheap, exploitable labor that makes their profits possible.

2,000 Troops Withdraw From Los Angeles; Fuera ICE!

At the end of May, the Trump administration began increasing its attacks on the immigrant community and the working class of Los Angeles. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids targeted schools and places of work for precarious workers like Home Depot and the garment district. In response to the attacks, including the arrest of union members like SEIU union president David Huerta, community members organized protests and mobilizations. Combative street confrontations have taken place against ICE, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), and sheriffs. And President Trump deployed thousands of National Guard troops who assisted ICE and local law enforcement in brutalizing the community.

Minnesotans Denounce ICE Kidnappings At Federal Court

St. Paul, MN – Hundreds attended a press conference on Monday, July 14 organized by the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee (MIRAC) to demand ICE stop kidnapping people after immigration hearings in the federal courthouse. The press conference was called in response to what MIRAC members witnessed a few days before while they accompanied a community member to immigration court. While there, they watched as Judge Brian Sardelli dismissed all cases. Judge Sardelli has a denial rate of 78.4% reported in 2024 compared to the national average of 57.7%.

ICE Kidnappings Mirror World War II Germany

Arlington, VA—If anything is true about Tesla Takedown Arlington activists, it’s that they’re not afraid to take on bullies. On Saturday, they went after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), slamming it for its illegal kidnapping policy and the state-created chaos the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is spreading across the country. Several protestors brought signs written in Spanish “Chinga la Migra por Vida,” translating to F— ICE forever. This message connected with many dozens of Latino motorists passing the Arlington Tesla showroom on their way to and from weekend yard work, or various labor-intensive employments, judging by the tools and equipment they carried in their truck beds.

Trump’s ICE Raids Target Working-Class Immigrants, Not Criminals

Following Donald Trump’s pledge to detain 3,000 undocumented immigrants per day, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids have surged across the United States. California, home to an estimated 2.8 million undocumented immigrants as of 2023. has emerged as a primary target. Department of Homeland Security official Kristi Noem traveled to Los Angeles for a press conference, declaring the government’s intent to “bring in criminals that have been out on our street far too long.” But data tells a different story. According to ICE datasets analyzed by the Los Angeles Times, during the first 10 days of June, ICE arrested 722 undocumented immigrants in California.

The IRS Is Building A Vast System To Share Taxpayers’ Data With ICE

The Internal Revenue Service is building a computer program that would give deportation officers unprecedented access to confidential tax data. ProPublica has obtained a blueprint of the system, which would create an “on demand” process allowing Immigration and Customs Enforcement to obtain the home addresses of people it’s seeking to deport. Last month, in a previously undisclosed dispute, the acting general counsel at the IRS, Andrew De Mello, refused to turn over the addresses of 7.3 million taxpayers sought by ICE. In an email obtained by ProPublica, De Mello said he had identified multiple legal “deficiencies” in the agency’s request.

The Battle For The Future Of Farmwork

The jail where they have taken his wife is very cold and very far away. In the weeks since immigration agents pulled her off the work bus, she has been in jail and he has kept working at the vegetable farm where they worked together. She calls him from a detention center in another state and tells him about the cold, how the prisoners complain about the cold but the guards do nothing. She has fallen into un hueco now, he says — a hollow, a hole, a gray area. His name is not Carlos, but he doesn’t want his real name published because he doesn’t want to be taken. We sit in his friend’s one-room apartment in an old two-story house in the upstate New York town of Albion, population 7,400.

Protesters Block GEO Detention Facility Demanding ‘Free Jeanette Now!’

Aurora, CO – On July 7, over 500 community members gathered in a powerful show of solidarity outside the Aurora GEO Detention Facility, demanding the immediate release of Jeanette Vizguerra and all political prisoners. For the past three months, community members have held weekly Monday vigils for Vizguerra , who has been unjustly detained at the GEO facility for her political organizing. Over 20 organizations have joined this growing movement, culminating in the July 7 day of action. With slogans like “Free Jeanette now” and “Oversight now,” protesters demanded immediate accountability for the reported human rights abuses occurring within the privately run detention center.

On CNN, Los Angeles’ ICE Protesters Were Seen And Not Heard

A FAIR study found that CNN’s primetime coverage of the Los Angeles anti-ICE protests in early June rarely included the voices of the protesters themselves. Instead, the network’s sources were overwhelmingly current and former government and law enforcement officials. The resulting coverage rarely took issue with Trump’s desire to silence the people who were defending their undocumented neighbors—but mainly debated his decision to deploy the California National Guard to do so.
