Did Interim DC Police Chief Order Mass Arrests Also Order 2002 Mass Arrests

By Steven Nelson for U.S. News - The interim police chief in the nation’s capital is declining to address details of a 235-person mass arrest Friday during President Donald Trump's inauguration as it becomes clear that some journalists were booked alongside activists. So far, seven journalists have been identified as being among the 230 adults charged with felony rioting, which carries a maximum 10 years in prison and a large fine. Peter Newsham told U.S. News he could not confirm that he ordered the mass arrest and said that he could not comment on why some journalists were charged while at least four others were allowed to leave a large penned-in group.

The civil rights organizations said on Tuesday that it plans to protest in five of Sessions’s Alabama offices — in Mobile, Huntsville, Dothan, Birmingham, and Montgomery. And former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, who served in the defense of community activists that Sessions previously prosecuted, sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee asking them to oppose Sessions’s nomination. “As a matter of conscience and conviction, we can neither be mute nor mumble our opposition to Sen. Jefferson Beauregard Sessions becoming attorney general of the United States”

Arrests End NAACP Sit-In At Jeff Sessions’ Office

By Jay Croft for CNN - (CNN) An NAACP sit-in to protest the nomination of US Sen. Jeff Sessions as US attorney general ended late Tuesday when six people were arrested at Sessions' Mobile, Alabama, office. The arrests of five men and one woman included NAACP President Cornell W. Brooks, said Malik Russell, director of communications for the civil rights group. They face charges of criminal trespass in the second-degree, according to Mobile police. The protesters arrived earlier Tuesday and said they would stay until Sessions is no longer the nominee or they were arrested.

By Eliott C. McLaughlin for CNN - The Minneapolis Police Department identified the climbers as Karl Mayo, 32, and Sen Holiday, 26. "They climbed up a metal guardrail to climb up these big trusses that hold up the roof," said Minneapolis police spokeswoman Sgt. Catherine Michal. Those sitting beneath the dangling protesters were evacuated as negotiators tried to persuade the climbers to return to solid ground, she said. Several fans posted images on social media, saying they noticed the banner in the first half of the game. Eric Biermann of Minneapolis told CNN he saw police gathering on the platform above banner.

About 20 Arrested After Protesters Pack Legislature To Protest GOP ‘Power Grab’

By Josh Shaffer for The Charlotte Observer - Hundreds protested at the state legislature Thursday morning and again Thursday night, accusing the GOP majority of using Hurricane Matthew victims as pawns in a ploy to seize power from Democratic Gov.-elect Roy Cooper. At least 20 people were arrested in the later demonstration, which caused the public galleries to be cleared in both the House and the Senate. A crowd of roughly 300 gathered outside the chamber, cheering as officers led away the arrested protesters who had refused to leave the House gallery. A chant of “All political power belongs to the people” rang out uninterrupted for about 15 minutes.

Family members say she was simply an innocent bystander in a clash between police and protesters, and was not guilty of anything the police claimed. Jessi Mitchell, of local News 9 reports that “family members of Caddo Nation chairwoman Tamara Francis-Fourkiller said an anonymous donor paid $2.5 million late Saturday afternoon to release everyone arrested on Thursday at the Dakota Access Pipeline site.”

21 Arrested During Peaceful Prayer Ceremony At Standing Rock

"Then we looked and over that way, there were a few police and the next thing we knew there were 40 police all in riot gear." Police moved in as peaceful demonstrators stood with their hands up. The video then shows officers confronting the protestors, grabbing women and ordering everyone into their cars. "I've never had a gun pointed at me," said the grandmother. "I went into shock."

21 More Arrested For Dakota Access Pipeline Protests

ANTHONY, N.D. — Twenty-one Dakota Access Pipeline protesters were arrested throughout the day on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at two construction sites near St. Anthony, the Morton County Sheriff's Department said. The protesters were arrested for various crimes ranging from resisting arrest, criminal trespass on private property and possession of stolen property.

U.S. officials had no qualms about sacrificing the life of this poor taxi driver for a target they were determined to murder. Sadly, both the Taliban leader and Mr. Azam, the taxi driver (sole supporter of his 4 young children, his wife and his disabled brother) were burned beyond recognition by a hellfire missile.

North Carolina Teachers Arrested After 20-Mile March To Governor’s Office

By Liane Sterling for Reuters - Over 100 North Carolina teachers, public school workers, and parents tried to present to Governor Pat McCrory at the end of their 20-mile march to his office on June 14 and 15. After a decade of budget cuts and a general lack of resources, the teachers and parents have had enough. The group, formed by Organize 2020, a NC Public Schools grassroots organization, wanted to address a few points with McCrory. Namely, that he expand Medicaid, spend the budget surplus on students, and repeal HB2.

Protesters Arrested For Blocking Railroad In Call For Oil-by-Rail Moratorium

By Phil McKenna for Inside Climate News - Twenty-one activists were arrested in Vancouver, Wash. on Saturday in a protest calling for a permanent moratorium on shipping oil by rail in Oregon and Washington, to protect people and the environment. Approximately 100 protesters took part in the event, blocking trains along the Columbia River gorge. The protest followed the derailment of an oil train in the gorge on June 3 that erupted in flames, spilled 42,000 gallons of crude oil and forced hundreds of people to evacuate their homes.

LOUIS — Officials in St. Louis County have issued warrants for the arrest of at least 47 individuals charged in connection with the August 2014 protests in Ferguson, Missouri, a Huffington Post review of court records has found. But the law that county officials are using to prosecute those protesters — some of whom were originally arrested while standing on the sidewalk — should have come off the books in 1987, when the Supreme Court struck down a similar ordinance as unconstitutional.

The two were named by Galway Alliance Against War as Dave Donnellan and Colm Roddy. Galway Alliance Against War (GAAW) said in a statement that the action in the centenary year of the 1916 Rising “which at its heart was a stand in opposition to imperialist war”.
