Over 800 Organizations Globally Sign Letter In Support Of Genocide Case Against The State Of Israel

United States - The newly-formed International Coalition to Stop Genocide in Palestine (ICSGP) issued a sign-on letter* on January 3, 2024 that garnered over 800 organizational endorsements from around the world in less than one week. In addition to the initiating organizations noted here, signing organizations represent broad social movements, including World March of Women and the International People’s Assembly, Palestinian-led and Palestinian solidarity movements such as Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions and the Palestinian NGO Network, as well as human rights and legal groups, unions, and religious organizations of all faiths.

US Citizens Push Embassies To Back South Africa’s Genocide Charge

Peace activists across the United States have embarked on a campaign to mobilize global support for South Africa’s charge of genocide against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The campaign, spearheaded by CODEPINK, World Beyond War and RootsAction, aims to rally nations to submit a Declaration of Intervention supporting South Africa’s case at the ICJ. The focus is on holding Israel accountable for alleged genocide in Gaza and putting an end to the tragic suffering of an imprisoned population. Delegations from major cities engaged with U.N. missions, embassies, and consulates from around the world, urging countries to invoke the Genocide Convention at the United Nations’ judicial arm.

Israel Is Terrified The World Court Will Decide It’s Committing Genocide

For nearly three months, Israel has enjoyed virtual impunity for its atrocious crimes against the Palestinian people. That changed on December 29 when South Africa, a state party to the Genocide Convention, filed an 84-page application in the International Court of Justice (ICJ, or World Court) alleging that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. South Africa’s well-documented application alleges that “acts and omissions by Israel … are genocidal in character, as they are committed with the requisite specific intent … to destroy Palestinians in Gaza as a part of the broader Palestinian national, racial and ethnical group” and that “the conduct of Israel — through its State organs, State agents, and other persons and entities acting on its instructions or under its direction, control or influence — in relation to Palestinians in Gaza, is in violation of its obligations under the Genocide Convention.”

Israel Readies Political Blitz To ‘Quash’ Genocide Case At World Court

The Israeli foreign ministry has ordered officials around the world to lobby diplomats and politicians to “issue statements against South Africa's case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ),” according to an internal cable reviewed by Axios. In particular, the cable highlights that Israel's “strategic goal” is for the ICJ, also known as the World Court, “to reject the request for an injunction, refrain from determining that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, and recognize that the Israeli military is operating in the Strip according to international law.” “A ruling by the court could have significant potential implications that are not only in the legal world but have practical bilateral, multilateral, economic, security ramifications,” the cable highlights.

South Africa Emerges As Moral Giant On Gaza

The collective West will forever stand disgraced and exposed due to its blind support of Israel’s genocidal slaughter of Palestinian civilians in Gaza since Oct. 7. What passes for governance in Washington, Berlin, Paris, London et al. has forced us all to bear witness to infanticide, high crimes and war crimes without end these past few months. Said crimes have been committed not in the name of self-defence but rather in the name of ethno-nationalism, settler-colonialism and white supremacy. Israel’s ability to act with impunity is a feature of the innocence it has claimed to enjoy as the national home of a Jewish people whom Hitler marked out for extermination in a European Judeocide that ranks as a crime of the ages.

Turkey, Malaysia Back South Africa’s ICJ Genocide Case Against Israel

South Africa is no longer alone in bringing its claim of genocide by the Israeli government to the International Court of Justice, following announcements from the Turkish Foreign Ministry and the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs that they support the case. Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oncu Keceli said Wednesday that those responsible for the killing of tens of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza since October 7 "must be held accountable before international law." "Israel's murder of more than 22,000 Palestinian civilians, the majority of whom were women and children, in Gaza for nearly three months should not go unpunished in any way," Keceli said.

International Coalition Forms To Demand End To Genocide In Palestine

United States - On December 30, the newly-formed International Coalition to Stop Genocide in Palestine convened around the urgent need for nations to invoke the Genocide Convention as a way to end the State of Israel’s devastating bombing campaign and additional war crimes being committed in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. That effort advanced on December 29 when South Africa submitted a well-documented case against Israel to the International Court of Justice. The Coalition strongly supports the call issued on January 2 by the Palestinian Anti-Apartheid Coordinating Committee urging governments to support South Africa’s complaint with Declarations of Intervention, which can be filed before or after the hearing, scheduled to take place on January 11 and 12, 2024.

West’s Support Of Israel: Hatred, Militancy Grow

The horrors that have been visited on the people of Gaza and increasingly the West Bank by the Israeli forces and by illegal settlers have been playing out in international media outlets. More than 20,000 people in Gaza, mostly non-combatants, have been killed. This includes more than 8,000 children and 6,200 women. The war crimes and crimes against humanity are obvious. They are not disputable. More ominous, a textbook case of genocide is unfolding before us all. The response by the “West”? “Israel has a right to defend itself”. It’s a settled fact of international law that an occupying power cannot use military force to attack a civilian population that it generally has complete control over.

Israel Says It’s Anti-Semitic To Invoke Genocide Convention Over Gaza

South Africa has invoked the Genocide Convention, formally launching a case at the UN’s international court of justice accusing Israel of genocide for its mass atrocities in the Gaza Strip. Israel immediately responded by (deep sigh) accusing South Africa of “blood libel”. Blood libel, for those who don’t know, refers to the way medieval Europeans would falsely accuse Jews of murdering Christians in blood sacrifices in order to justify persecuting them. Which is to say, Israel has responded to South Africa’s accusations by accusing South Africa of anti-semitism.

South Africa Institutes Proceedings Against The State Of Israel

The Hague, December 29, 2023 - South Africa today filed an application instituting proceedings against Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, concerning alleged violations by Israel of its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (the “Genocide Convention”) in relation to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. According to the Application, “acts and omissions by Israel . . . are genocidal in character, as they are committed with the requisite specific intent . . . to destroy Palestinians in Gaza as a part of the broader Palestinian national, racial and ethnical group” and that “the conduct of Israel — through its State organs, State agents, and other persons and entities acting on its instructions or under its direction, control or influence — in relation to Palestinians in Gaza, is in violation of its obligations under the Genocide Convention”.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 32: Gaza Turned Into ‘Graveyard For Children’

Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip entered its second month on Tuesday. At least 10,500 Palestinians have been killed and 24,000 injured in airstrikes and ground shelling, which have targeted houses, schools, hospitals, water tanks, solar panels, main roads, mosques, and universities. In less than a month, an estimated 25,000 tons of explosives have been dropped on the Gaza Strip, an area of 365 square kilometers where 2.3 million Palestinians live, the majority of them refugees whose families were expelled or fled from their towns during the 1948 war. The Israeli bombardment of Gaza has left no corner of Gaza safe for Palestinians. In the past month, all communications and internet have been cut in Gaza.

What Does It Mean To Call Israel An Apartheid State?

What does it mean to call Israel an apartheid state? The word, meaning literally “apartness,” originally referred to policies introduced in South Africa in 1948. Al-though presented as a path of equal but separate development of racial groups in that country, like “separate but equal” in this country, it was anything but. Under apartheid people were classified as “native,” “colored,” “Asian,” or “white,” and these designations determined access to land, schools, resources, etc. Apartheid laws served to reserve the vast majority of the land for white South Africans, relocating the non-white population to socalled bantustans far from the areas they had lived in for many years.

Dilemmas Of Humanity Conference Concludes In Johannesburg

For almost two weeks now, an incessant rain of bombs has been falling on the Palestinian lands and people, who for 75 years have struggled against the Zionist settler-colonial project, under the indifferent gaze of the so-called “Western powers” and their governments. For more than 60 years, the Cuban people have been suffering from an economic, financial, and commercial blockade that has deprived them of achieving their full development, before the impotent gaze of a large part of the world that cannot – or does not dare – to challenge those responsible for that policy. Both realities are hard to digest, but they have similar origins: imperialism and the capitalist system.

South Africans Denounce ‘Apartheid Israel’

Multiple pro-Palestine rallies and demonstrations have been held in South Africa since last week, calling on its government to expel the Israeli ambassador and take other actions against the “apartheid state” for its ongoing bombardment and siege of the Gaza strip. Ever since Palestinian resistance fighters resistance broke the 17-year long blockade on the densely populated Gaza, Israel has launched an indiscriminate and deadly bombardment of Gaza. Close to 11,000 Palestinians have been wounded and at least 2,800 people have been killed as of Tuesday, October 16. Fatalities include more than 1,000 children, who are being killed at the rate of one every 15 minutes since the start of Israel’s military offensive on October 7.

Socialism Is Not Just A Possibility, It Is The Only Possibility

What does socialism and building socialism mean to the leaders of mass movements and left political parties from across the world? This question is at the center of the debates for the next several days at the III International Dilemmas of Humanity Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa. Around 500 movement leaders, trade unionists, and members of left parties from more than 70 countries are partaking in the conference which will culminate on October 18, 2023. The conference is organized by the International Peoples’ Assembly (IPA) and hosted by the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA), Abahlali base Mjondolo, and the Socialist Revolutionary Workers Party of South Africa.
