The Latest On The Diplomatic War Against Venezuela

According to conventional wisdom, the Trump administration, as well as its regional allies in the Lima Group and the Venezuelan opposition, were set to intensify the diplomatic war on the Venezuelan government at the U.N. General Assembly. However, they only managed to demonstrate how far removed their coalition against President Maduro is from convincing the international community that deadly sanctions and a coup are the way forward for Venezuela. Their plan had several goals: increase the number of countries that recognize Juan Guaidó...

US Military To Initiate Military Drills Near Venezuelan – Colombian Border

The US embassy in Bogota reported that on Monday they will begin infantry exercises, with the aim of rehearsing a possible invasion of Venezuela, camouflaged through alleged “humanitarian aid.” The announcement was made by the US SOUTHCOM through its twitter account, where they reported that: “The Marines came to Covenas, Colombia, while preparing to begin a week of training in humanitarian assistance,” reported the US army account. They also announced that in this “alleged” humanitarian assistance activity, communications and aerial operations will be carried out together with the Colombian Marine Corps.

Colombia Admits To Deceiving U.N. With Fake Pictures To Accuse Venezuela Of Illegal Activities

News agencies AFP and El Colombiano have confirmed that they had taken at least four of the pictures included in the dossier delivered by Colombian President Ivan Duque to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres last Thursday during the 74th U.N. Assembly General. According to the President, the photographs were to be key evidence to prove the relationship between Colombian illegal groups and the Venezuelan Government headed by Nicolas Maduro, reported the news website Semana.

Venezuelan And Bolivian Heads Of State Address United Nations On Climate Crisis, Capitalism And Imperialism

In this house of the international community, common mechanisms of cooperation are also being stimulated in order to address the urgent need to preserve the environment, impacted by the devastating capitalist model. We express our solidarity with the brotherly Caribbean people of the Bahamas, a recent victim of the ravages of climate change. And as an Amazon country, we raise our voice to reject the barbaric commodification of our Amazon, led by Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. He has used his extremist ideology to attack nature’s lungs. We proclaim the rights of nature as an everlasting banner of the peoples. We also came to this Organization to effectively address the urgent need to fight against poverty and inequality, where 26 people possess the same wealth as the 3.8 billion poorest people in the world.

Following Grayzone Exposé, Top Venezuelan Coup Official Ricardo Hausmann Is Forced To Resign

Hours before an expected vote at the United Nations General Assembly on the legitimacy of Venezuela’s Maduro-led government amidst a US-led coup, a senior official of Juan Guaidó’s coup regime was forced to resign from his position. Economist Ricardo Hausmann stepped down from his post at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) following an exposé by The Grayzone’s Anya Parampil of his conflicts of interest and opaque financial practices. While Hausmann worked at the IDB as an ambassador of Guaidó’s shadow administration, he was also employed as the Rafik Hariri Professor of the Practice of Political Economy at Harvard University.

Geneva Passes Resolution In Favor Of Venezuela’s Human Rights

Jorge Valero acknowledged the UN Human Rights Council for addressing the negative connotations of Washington´s policy against Maduro´s government and the impact of these sanctions on people´s life. During an ordinary session celebrated in Geneva, this Tuesday, UN Human Rights Council passed a project of the resolution called “strengthening cooperation and technical assistance in the field of human rights in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela”, informed its permanent representative Jorge Valero.

Washington Gives Guaido $52M In Funding, Slaps Venezuela With New Sanctions

Caracas, September 25, 2019 (venezuelanalysis.com) - Self-proclaimed “Interim President” Juan Guaido and the Venezuelan opposition have been given US $52 million by the Trump administration. According to a Tuesday statement from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the funding will be destined for independent media, civil society, the health sector and the opposition-controlled National Assembly. In addition, USAID administrator Mark Green announced on Wednesday that the US will commit $36 million in aid to Venezuela, as part of a relief program led by the United Nations.

First International Women’s Congress Seeks To Leave Hate And Confrontation Behind

The First International Women’s Congress gathered in Caracas representatives of 110 organizations from 23 countries from all over the world. The idea and plans of the event are a result of the Sao Paulo Forum, held in the Venezuelan capital city in July. “This is one of the sectorial encounters aimed at stimulating discussions because they are held as something secondary. But this allows us to carry out and fulfill our agreements,” said Gladys Requena, vice-president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) – Women’s Sector, which fostered the organization of the Congress.

At UN Session, US Empire In Decline And Global Solidarity On The Rise

As the United States becomes more brazen and ridiculous in its attempts to stay in control, it is driving other countries to turn away from the US and organize around it. There are growing calls for the United Nations to consider leaving the US and reestablish itself in a location where the US cannot sanction people for its own political purposes. Perhaps there is a need for a new international institution that does not enable US domination. The US' actions point to the need for peace and justice activists to build an international network to demand the upholding the rule of law. Popular Resistance and its allies are contributing to the formation of that transnational solidarity structure through the new Global Appeal for Peace.

Media Continue To Push Misinformation About Venezuela And Drug Trafficking

In recent years, Western corporate journalists have turned to systematically citing unnamed sources and secret documents from the US national security state. Indeed, one would be forgiven for thinking it was standard operating procedure. The Wall Street Journal (9/15/19) takes this “deep state” fan fiction genre to new heights with its latest on Venezuela, titled “Venezuela’s Hugo Chávez Worked to Flood US with Cocaine, US Prosecutors Say.” As advertised, the Journal’s Juan Forero echoes allegations against the Venezuelan government by US officials, which are contained in undisclosed “documents obtained by the Wall Street Journal.”

Dialogue In Venezuela Is A Missed Opportunity For Democrats

Missing from the Democratic candidates' stage is the effect these policies have on Venezuelans. These sanctions have killed more than 40,000 people – a figure that comes from economists Mark Weisbrot and Jeffrey Sachs. Venezuelan opposition economist Francisco Rodríguez estimates that “financial sanctions were associated with a decline in [oil] production… [representing] USD 16.9 billion a year in foregone oil revenues.” From the Washington establishment point of view, the sanctions are merely a tool to oust President Maduro, no matter the cost to ordinary Venezuelans.  But while American politicians support sanctions as if they were a nonviolent alternative to boots on the ground, those under their influence know they are a weapon of war normalized by U.S. corporate media.

Tales Of Resistance: The Unsung Heroes Of Present-Day Venezuela

A few days ago, some friends of mine, like lots of other Venezuelans, were making fun of the milicianos [members of the Bolivarian Militia]: “They are the ones who will defend us in a war?” “They’re so old they can barely stand,” “They’re all fat,” “They’re toothless.” In response, as in previous occasions, I brought up the “Marquetalia Diary,” and its stories about an improvised “commune” or small-scale socialist society, written by Colombian guerrilla leader Jacobo Arenas in 1972.

Rachel Maddow Endorses Regime Change In Venezuela To “Push Russia Back,” Sympathizes With Bolton And Pompeo

The loudest voice among the corporate media hack pack doubling down on Russiagate conspiracies is MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. On May 3, Maddow took her propaganda to an entirely new level of militaristic cheerleading, launching into a rant that offered de-facto encouragement for the current neocon cause-du-jour: regime change in Venezuela. Maddow not only cast Trump as a Russian stooge for daring to discuss – and possibly de-escalate – the Venezuelan crisis with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the top-rated liberal cable news host expressed sympathy for John Bolton and Mike Pompeo, the most militaristic members of the Trump administration.

Venezuela Probes Guaido Over Photos With Colombian Drug Traffickers

Caracas, September 15, 2019 (venezuelanalysis.com) - Venezuela’s attorney general has opened an investigation into opposition leader Juan Guaido concerning purported links to armed far-right groups in Colombia. Tarek William Saab told reporters on Friday that a prosecutor had been tasked with investigating links between Guaido and Colombian paramilitary group “Los Rastrojos,” which operates in the Colombian province of North Santander. The head of the country’s National Assembly became embroiled in controversy after photos surfaced on Thursday showing him posing with high-ranking figures of Los Rastrojos.

Cuba, Uruguay, Nicaragua Reject TIAR Treaty Against Venezuela

The governments of Cuba, Uruguay and Nicaragua have strongly rejected the TIAR treaty activation against Venezuela, which could authorize the use of military force against Caracas government if the countries part of the treaty deemed it a threat to security or peace in the region. Cuban President, Miguel Diaz-Canel, denounced the embarrassing decision of activating TIAR as he called it “a poorly legally supported excuse to intervene in Venezuela’s internal affairs”, something he declared to be “unacceptable”.
