Reading Reuters Between The Lines: Why The US Puppet President Of Venezuela Is Toast

Even the corporate media are losing enthusiasm for the US government’s ploy to replace the democratically elected President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela with the US-anointed security asset Juan Guaido.  Reuters reports in a July 1 article, “Disappointed Venezuelans lose patience with Guaido as Maduro hangs on,” that the US-backed “military uprising” has “unraveled.” A critical reading of the article explains why. Reuters correctly notes that “the 35-year old (Guaido) had risen to prominence three months before,” though a little more background information would have been helpful.

Venezuela Urges UN To Intervene Against US Sanctions

Caracas, July 6 (IANS) The Venezuelan government has urged the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, to intervene against the US trade and financial sanctions which are undermining the South American nation's economy. Addressing a session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, Venezuelan Vice Foreign Minister William Castillo said on Friday that the sanctions met the body's definition of "unilateral coercive measures" and should be lifted, reports Xinhua news agency. "In keeping with the UN's resolutions on unilateral coercive measures, (we) demand the immediate end to the blockade," urged Castillo.

Russia’s Presence In Venezuela Helped Scale Down US Aggression

La Paz, Bolivia - Russia's presence in Venezuela helped scale down US aggression, according to the head of the Bolivian presidential administration, Juan Ramon Quintana. "I would say that Russia is playing a role of a geopolitical mediator in Latin America. We think that we can find a balanced framework for the relationships in the region, with Russia and China. I think the most important example at the moment is the Russian-Venezuelan relationship. Russia's very presence in Venezuela helped diminish US aggression regarding their intention to destroy Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela", Quintana said.

Venezuela Building Socialism In The Midst Of A War: Report from The Left Forum

Rodríguez was only nine years old when Hugo Chávez was elected president of Venezuela in 1998 and initiated the Bolivarian Revolution. Based on her activism, this millennial explained to a mostly seasoned audience at the Left Forum in Brooklyn, New York, on June 29: “The road to socialism is not a flat road. It is a road with many obstacles. But the direction of our government has been clearly towards socialism. The Venezuelan constitution has shown the way. It is not easy to make a revolution the democratic way in the context of globalization and international warfare” from the U.S.

Bolton Foreign Policy Causing Division In Trump Administration – US Activist

Foreign policy moves promoted by White House National Security Advisor John Bolton with respect to Venezuela and other countries are causing a split in the Trump administration, Popular Resistance activist group co-director Kevin Zeese said. "There have been indications in the Trump administration that Donald Trump feels like he was deceived by John Bolton and [Special Envoy for Venezuela] Elliott Abrams", Zeese said regarding Bolton’s efforts to force a change of government in Venezuela by claiming popular support for opposition leader and self-proclaimed president Juan Guaido. "In fact, the people of Venezuela support President [Nicolas] Maduro".

US And Right-Wing Allies Weakening OAS And Failing To Achieve Their Objectives

Uruguay walked out of the meeting in protest of the seating of a delegation representing Venezuela’s US puppet, self-declared President Juan Guaidó. They were followed by Nicaragua, Bolivia, and Mexico. Uruguay did not return to the meeting although the other countries did. Almagro is from Uruguay. He has been expelled by his party over his unprofessional behavior with regard to Venezuela. Lack of support from his own country ought to deal a death blow to his re-election chances, although his current reign has so damaged the regional body’s institutionality that anything could happen. Valdrack Jaentschke, head of Nicaragua’s OAS delegation said, “In the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela there is a democratically elected constitutional government led by President Nicolás Maduro Moros,” he said.

Brutal US-Colombian-Israeli Coup And Massacre Foiled By Venezuela’s SEBIN

This article describes a new stage in the escalation of the consistently failing US coup attempts in Venezuela. Every coup attempt has failed thus far but the US is not giving up. This most recent coup attempt involving the US, Colombia, and Israel would have been a bloody massacre of civilians and government leaders. They intended to kill President Maduro and his wife, the President of National Constituent Assembly Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, generals, leaders of social movements and civilians. The 14-month investigation that uncovered and stopped this coup is another coup failure by the US but it shows how violent the US is willing to become to take over the Venezuelan government

How Many Coups (And Lives) Will It Take Before The US Surrenders In Venezuela?

Venezuela used to be an "oil republic," which made oil executives from the United States and the wealthy class in Venezuela very rich. That lasted until the election of Hugo Chavez in 1998 when the Bolivarian Process began and oil profits were used to provide for basic needs of all the people. Ever since then, the US and its allies have used everything they have to overthrow the revolution, but like Cuba, the people have resisted, despite great suffering being inflicted on them, and the US has failed. We speak with Dan Kovalik about his newest book, "The Plot to Overthrow Venezuela" and the tremendous resistance of the Venezuelan people. We also cover some recent news and have a tribute to Bruce Dixon, co-founder and editor of Black Agenda Report, who died last week of cancer.

Embassy Protectors Defense Committee Forms, Urges Support For Embassy Protectors

The Embassy Protectors Defense Committee finds it imperative to organize and carry out an effective national campaign in support of the Embassy Protectors in the following three areas: To organize a nationwide fundraising campaign to raise the necessary funds to cover the legal expenses for the four Embassy Protectors. This will require soliciting active participation of all peace and justice organizations in the United States in a nationally coordinated fundraising campaign. This fundraising campaign is especially crucial as the US government has virtually unlimited resources to prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law.

Trump Does Not Want To Get Too Involved With Venezuela

The U.S. President tacitly acknowledged the failure of the actions aimed at destabilizing Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro. In a tacit reference to an eventual U.S. military action against Venezuela, President Donald Trump said Saturday that he does not want to get too involved in the Latin American country, although he also held that his tactics could "change at any time." In a press conference held at the G20 Summit in Osaka, Japan, Trump confessed that he had spoken about Venezuela "with almost every leader" with whom he met this week.

US Sanctions On Venezuela Illegal Under UN, OAS And US Law

The application of unilateral economic sanctions is an explicit violation of international law protected under the United Nation’s (U.N.) and Organization of American States’s (OAS) charters, human rights stipulations, and even national United States (U.S.) law. Despite that truth, they have become U.S. President Donald Trump’s favorite tool to assert his foreign policy goals around the world. Since 2017, the Trump administration has imposed 150 sanctions on individuals and entities in Venezuela via executive orders and by invoking the so-called Kingpin Act.

Unilateral Coercive Measures As Weapons Of Modern Warfare – The Venezuelan Case

With the advent of the new world order after the Second World War, sophisticated warfare mechanisms are used against countries, their effects are not manifested in the destruction of infrastructure and shedding of blood, but in a slow and often deadly agony over innocent populations. The United States with the support of some allies, now make an indiscriminate use of unilateral coercive measures (UCMs). The pain and death inflicted on vulnerable populations in Cuba, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, and now Venezuela through UCMs has been classified by experts as crimes against humanity.

Venezuela Unveils New Coup Plot Against President Maduro

The Vice President of Communication, Tourism and Culture, Jorge Rodríguez, presented on Wednesday evidence of a plan that involves the Venezuelan and international right in a new coup d’etat attempt against the constitutional president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro. This operation aimed to free Venezuelan General Raúl Isaías Baduel, who is detained in the facilities of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin), and then transfer him to the headquarters of Venezolana de Televisión, in Ruices, Miranda state, to proclaim himself President of the nation (yes, you are reading right).

So Who Is Reporting That Trump Sanctions Have Killed Thousands Of Venezuelans?

I wrote on June 14 about Reuters burying (for over a month) a study (CEPR, 4/25/19)  by prominent economists Jeffrey Sachs and Mark Weisbrot that links economic sanctions President Donald Trump imposed on Venezuela in August 2017 to an estimated 40,000 deaths by the end of 2018. As of January 2019, Trump made the sanctions even more severe. The study is the clearest evidence of the devastating impact US policy is having on the people of Venezuela. Below is a list of English-language outlets that, according to the Nexis news database, mentioned the study as of June 17.

Canada Hires Hitman To Overthrow Venezuelan Government

Culham is a former Canadian ambassador to Venezuela, El Salvador, Guatemala and the Organization of American States. During his time as ambassador to Venezuela from 2002 to 2005 Culham was hostile to Hugo Chavez’s government. According to a WikiLeaks publication of U.S. diplomatic messages, “Canadian Ambassador Culham expressed surprise at the tone of Chavez’s statements during his weekly television and radio show ‘Hello President’ on February 15 [2004].
