Holding placards bearing photos of some of the victims of gun violence, protesters occupied the lobby of BlackRock’s headquarters in midtown Manhattan for almost an hour on Monday afternoon demanding that the investment firm divest from gun stocks.

On Monday, Anne Weills, Mollie Costello, Alyssa Eisenberg and Tova Fry won a $130,000 settlement from California’s Alameda County and the adoption of new, human rights-centered policies at the jail where they were held. The four were arrested in 2014 during a protest in Oakland, Calif., in which demonstrators demanded that state Attorney General Kamala Harris prosecute police officers who kill civilians. They were charged with misdemeanor trespassing.

Onlookers watched and wondered what the colorful display was all about. A few hours later, a video emerged online of another activist releasing balloons atop Naguru Hill, the highest point in Uganda’s capital city. In the video, the activist explained that the balloons carry a message announcing the launch of a new activist toolkit, Beautiful Rising, aimed at helping people put an end to injustices like militarism and dictatorship.

The files on Epstein, who died in May at the age of 91, were released in response to a Freedom of Information Act request submitted by the writer and researcher Waqas Mirza. One heavily-redacted document, dated January 15, 2006, reveals that Epstein fell under surveillance due to her participation in a "delegation from St. Louis" that "traveled to Israel with [the International Solidarity movement] in the winter of 2003.”

Her death followed threats related to her support for indigenous people fighting the construction of the Agua Zarca hydroelectric dam along the Gualcarque River. A few days after her death Nelson García, another leader of the Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (known as COPINH), which Cáceres founded in 1993 to advocate for the native Lenca peoples’ rights, was also murdered.
