New Cleveland RNC Police & Military Docs: FEMA Base To Setup At NASA

By Staff of Unicorn Riot - Cleveland has struggled with state violence in recent years; the killing by police of twelve-year-old Tamir Rice is one example among many. The police department is currently run under a consent decree reached with the Department of Justice. Foreshadowing coming events, community protests in Cleveland have been targeted with counterinsurgency-style policing in the last two years, with mass arrests taking place and protesters being detained at Burke Lakefront Airport.

What Will Lesser Evilism Look Like In 2016?

By Staff for Socialist Worker - BERNIE SANDERS' campaign for the Democratic Party presidential nomination has had a huge impact on national politics. With his message about the need for a "political revolution" and his forthright identification as a democratic socialist, he injected a surge of energy into the 2016 election. Sanders won far more support than most observers, Socialist Worker included, guessed at the start. For a time after the first few primary contests in Iowa and New Hampshire, the Hillary Clinton campaign--and the ranks of the Democratic Party leadership that stand behind it--was running scared.

What I Know About America After Getting Thrown Out Of A Trump Rally

By Ronnie C. Rouse for The Huffington Post - As I woke up this morning, the reality and depth of the situation started to finally set in. Seventy-plus interviews later, my childhood friend and I are on national news because we decided to attend a presidential campaign event. My childhood friend and I are on national news because we were exercising our civic rights as Americans. At a Donald J. Trump campaign event March 9, 2016, my friend Rakeem and I sawwhat being American is all about.

Both Major U.S. Parties Are Plagues On Humanity

By Glen Ford in Black Agenda Report - There has never been a dime’s worth of difference between the Clintons (Bill and Hillary) and Barack Obama, and less than ten cents separates the worldviews of these Democratic political twins from the Bush wing of the Republican Party. Each has their individual quirks. Barack destroys international order and the rule of law while dabbling at song; Bill dismantled the U.S. manufacturing base and threw record numbers of Blacks in prison as he toyed with his trumpet; George W. played the fool who would Shock and Awe the world into obedience; and Hillary is the evil crone that curses the dead while screaming “We are Woman” like a banshee. But they are all the same in their corporate soullessness.

GOP, Tech Industry Mostly Out Of Step Over Net Neutrality

The intensifying debate over how to keep the Internet open and ripe for innovation has heightened tensions between Republican congressional leaders and tech entrepreneurs they have been trying to woo. As tech firms and cable companies prepare for a fight that each says will shape the future of the Internet, Silicon Valley executives and activists are growing increasingly irritated by the feeling that the GOP is not on their side. Republican leaders have struggled to explain to their nascent allies in the Bay Area why they are working so hard to undermine a plan endorsed by the Obama administration to keep a level playing field in Internet innovation, enforcing what the administration and its allies call "net neutrality."

Koch Bros Vow Nearly $1 Billion For 2016 Elections

The political network backed by right-wing billionaires Charles and David Koch plans to spend close to $900 million on the 2016 campaigns, a stunning amount on par with both the major political parties, the Washington Post reported Monday. According to the Post, "[t]he new $889 million goal reflects the anticipated budgets of all the allied groups that the network funds. Those resources will go into field operations, new data-driven technology and policy work, among other projects, along with likely media campaigns aimed at shaping the congressional and White House elections." The Koch Brothers announced the historic budget to donors attending the annual winter meeting of Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce in Palm Springs, California.

Republicans Will Wise Up And Support Net Neutrality

Earlier this week President Obama gave an interview on a Sunday talk show where he talked again about his support for Net Neutrality. So naturally the crazy Conservatives immediately came out against it. Ted Cruz posted to his Twitter account saying that a neutral internet was the same thing as Obamacare for the web. But before you go getting all frustrated with this latest example of right-wing stupidity, I think I have something that will make you smile and brighten your day. And it comes from perhaps an unlikely source. Following Cruz’s Facebook post, even Republicans came out telling Teddy what a complete buffoon he is here.

Looking Past The Myths About Election 2014

The centerpiece of the Republicans' victory is their takeover of the U.S. Senate, which gives them a majority in both houses of Congress. The Republicans' net pickup of at least eight seats is impressive on its face, but the GOP did have a strong hand going into this year's elections. Because of a combination of retirements and what states were in play--only a third of the Senate is elected in each two-year cycle--the Democrats were especially vulnerable in 2014. ABC News calculated that only 16 Senate races were truly competitive, and in all but three, the seats were currently held by Democrats. Still, a swing of eight seats to the Republicans is a big deal, and the GOP has a chance for at least one more--there will be a run-off election in December for the seat from Louisiana. The Republicans added to their majority in the House by at least a dozen seats.

Urgent: Right-Left Alliance Needed To Stop This War!

When war was made the top election issue in exit polls in 2006, Democrats took power and their leader in the House, Rahm Emanuel, openly told the Washington Post that they would keep the war in Iraq going in order to campaign against it again in 2008. And so they did. Republicans elected opposing war in 2010 have been more rhetorical than substantive in their "opposition." The current war, and the endless war it is part of, must be opposed by people across the political spectrum who put peace ahead of party. ISIS has a one-hour video asking for this war. Giving it to them, and boosting their recruitment, is insanity. Ending insane policies is not a left or right position. This is a war that involves bombing the opposite side in Syria from the side we were told we had to bomb a year ago, and simultaneously arming the same side that the U.S. government is bombing. This is madness.

United We Stand Tour Wants Youth To Run For Office

Christina Tobin, the founder and chair of Free and Equal,  sits down with Dennis to discuss our Democracy in crisis and the United We Stand Festival Tour. The motto of Free and Equal is More Voices, More Choices. “We believe that freedom is enhanced when voters are presented with all the sides to an issue and have a chance to fairly evaluate all the candidates running in an election. However, the incumbent political parties like to define the parameters of the debate by presenting only two choices, or two versions of the same idea. With the privately> run Commission on Presidential Debates, Republicans and Democrats go to great lengths to exclude candidates not belonging to their own parties by setting restrictive qualifications to participate in the debates sponsored by their interest groups and then refusing to show up at debates where all candidates are invited.
