Exclusive: Flush The TPP Conversation With President Obama

President Barack Obama gave an exclusive interview to FlushTheTPP.org to discuss the massive trade deal, the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The agreement, which has been negotiated for 3 and 1/2 years in secret by President Obama except for 600 corporate advisers who have put in the aggreement language that ensures the transnational corporations have more power than government's and that their profits come before the necessities of the people and the protection of the planet. In an unique approach President Obama has classified the text of the TPP. This have never been done with a trade agreement before the TPP. The TPP is the largest agreement since the WTO and will affect every aspect of your life including food, water, wages, Internet access, banking regulation and environmental laws among other areas. In fact laws like "Buy American" will be a violation because they are a trade barrier, as are laws that favor buying local or buying sustainable products.

After Multiple Crashes Drone Base Forced To Move In Africa

The U.S. military has been forced to relocate a large fleet of drones from a key counterterrorism base on the Horn of Africa after a string of crashes fanned local fears that the unmanned aircraft were at risk of colliding with passenger planes, according to documents and interviews. Air Force drones ceased flying this month from Camp Lemonnier, a U.S. installation in Djibouti, after local officials expressed alarm about several drone accidents and mishaps in recent years. The base serves as the combat hub for counterterrorism operations in Yemen and Somalia. The Pentagon has temporarily moved the unmanned aircraft from the U.S. base in Djibouti’s capital to a makeshift airstrip in a more remote part of the country.

US Blocks Pakistani Drone Victim’s Lawyer From Testifying In Congress

The US government is being accused of derailing a congressional hearing that would be the first to hear testimony from survivors of an alleged CIA drone strike by failing to grant the family's lawyer a visa. Shahzad Akbar, a legal fellow with the British human rights group Reprieve and the director of the Pakistan-based Foundation for Fundamental Rights, says the state department is preventing him from taking his clients to Capitol Hill next week. The hearing would mark the first time US lawmakers heard directly from drone strike survivors.

Anti-Drone Action at Beale AFB: Nonviolent Civil Disobedience for Peace

For the past 2 ½ years I have been driving monthly from my home in Grass Valley, Ca, 30 miles out to Beale Air Force Base for a non-violent protest against drone warfare. There I have met other activists from around the state, as we have hung and held banners, passed out current information about drone warfare to those entering and leaving, camped together at the base entrance, shared food, celebrated birthdays, supported each other through hard times, sung and played guitar, risked arrest, and come to be a group of dedicated activist friends. These are some of the things I have learned about drones since I started protesting them at Beale AFB.

David Hartsough Testimony: “We Are One Human Family”

Drones have killed thousands of innocent civilians and are immoral and illegal under US and international law. They also recruit many more people into Al Qaeda. We are one human family. All people in the world are children of God and are our brothers and sisters. If someone attacks our blood brother or sister, we would do everything in our power to stop them. This is the way we feel about innocent civilians being killed by drones in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen. One hundred and seventy-eight children and thousands of other civilians have been killed by drones in Pakistan and Yemen. Does this strengthen our national security? Is this making the world a safer place?

Upcoming Protests At Bath Iron Works

There are going to be two protests at Bath Iron Works (BIW) here in Maine during the month of October. The first will be on Saturday, October 5 from 11:30 am to 12:30. That vigil will be part of Keep Space for Peace Week and will be held on Washington Street in Bath. The second, and likely larger protest, will be held on Saturday, October 19 during the "christening" of the Navy's first Zumwalt class "stealth" destroyer, DDG-1000. This protest will come at the end of the Maine Drone Peace Walk and will be from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and will be held on the corner of Washington Street and Hinckley Street. Just across the street from this spot many people will be lining up to enter BIW for the "christening" ceremony. Yes indeed it is a sacrilege and presumptuous to give the blessing of Christ (the Prince of Peace) to a first-strike killing warship.

Yemenis Launch Artistic Campaign To Counter Global Media Propaganda

Through the art of photography, these community activist, hope to illustrate an accurate portrait to the world to show the true identity of Yemen and its people- who according to Rooj Alwazir -one of the main organizers, have been thoughtlessly generalized by global media as terrorists. Many of the participants expressed concern about the US drone strikes which have increased dramatically in the country this year. In addition to the art initiative in Sana'a, many anti-drones demonstrations have been staged in the country during the past two months to denounce what many believe is a violation of international law and a violation of a Yemen's sovereignty. It is commonly said that a picture is worth a thousand words, however to many of those who participated in this event, a picture is worth saving the lives of thousands of people.

Five Anti-Drone Activists Found Guilty of Trespassing

Five peace and anti-drone activists were found guilty late Monday in U.S. District Court in Sacramento of trespassing on federal property. The so-called "Beale 5" were arrested October 30, 2012 at the main gate to Beale Air Force Base, near Marysville, CA, where they had stood peacefully blocking the entrance. Beale AFB is home to the Global Hawk, a surveillance drone that provides reconnaissance for the weaponized predator drone, used in the majority of CIA drone strikes in Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia. The guilty verdict, handed down by federal judge Carolyn K. Delaney, means a possible fine and/or up to six months in federal prison. Sentencing is set for September 9.

Homeland Security Wants Military Generals to Run Domestic Drone Program

The continuing rise of Predator drones at home has been fueled by the bizarre merger of military influence in domestic affairs and the key role of border hawks in the politics of immigration reform. DHS's early decision to tap generals involved in the military's own controversial overseas drone program to shape and direct the domestic drone program points to the increasing merger of the post-9/11 homeland security/border security complex with the military-industrial complex. Drone proliferation at home will likely increase from a multibillion-dollar spending surge to boost "border security" as a result of congressional proposals to reform immigration policy.

Vets For Peace Against War, Strong for Peace & Justice

As part of "Searching for Occupy," Crystal Zevon's trip across the country in 2013, Crystal met with numerous members of Veterans for Peace. You will find VFP members standing with supporters of social and economic justice, and in opposition to wars and militarism, wherever you go. No matter who is president, Democrat or Republican, VFP stays on path opposed to US foreign policy of war, militarism and Empire. Whether it is shutting down Guantanamo Bay, opposing the drone program or opposing wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya or Syria -- VFP will be on the front lines. Throughout the Occupy Movement, across the country, VFP members participated, camped out in public spaces and marched with occupiers. Often their Peace Teams would stand between police and protesters to either calm the situation, minimize the risk of arrest or be the first arrested. This film by Crystal Zevon documents many of these stories.

Cornel West Responds to Barak Obama on Trayvon Martin

A black president can’t get too close to black folk, because Fox News, with their reactionary self in oft—in so many instances, will attack them, and that becomes the point of reference? No. If they’re going to be part of the legacy of Martin King, Fannie Lou Hamer and Ella Baker and the others, then the truth and justice stuff that you pursue, you don’t care who is coming at you. But, no, this black liberal class has proven itself to be too morally bankrupt, too hypocritical, and indifferent to criminality—Wall Street criminality, no serious talk about enforcement of torturers and wiretappers under the Bush administration. Why? Because they don’t want the subsequent administration to take them to jail. Any reference to the hunger strike of our brothers out in California and other places, dealing with torture? Sustained solitary confinement is a form of torture. And we won’t even talk about Guantánamo. Force-feeding, torture in its core...

Leaked Pakistan Report Confirms Children Killed By Drones

Drawn from field reports by local officials in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas, the document lists over 70 drone strikes between 2006 and late 2009, alongside a small number of other incidents such as alleged Nato attacks and strikes by unspecified forces. Of 746 people listed as killed in the drone strikes, at least 147 of the dead are clearly stated by the leaked report to be civilian victims. Some 94 of these are said to be children. Some CIA strikes are missing from the document. None of the five reported strikes for 2007 are listed, for example. Also missing are any biographical details of those killed, although the genders of many victims are reported and – where known – whether any children died. The document also fails to mention details of a number of senior militant commanders known to have died in the attacks.

FAA Warns Public Against Shooting Guns At Drones

The FAA released a statement in response to questions about an ordinance under consideration in the tiny farming community of Deer Trail, Colo., that would encourage hunters to shoot down drones. The administration reminded the public that it regulates the nation's airspace, including the airspace over cities and towns. A drone "hit by gunfire could crash, causing damage to persons or property on the ground, or it could collide with other objects in the air," the statement said. "Shooting at an unmanned aircraft could result in criminal or civil liability, just as would firing at a manned airplane." Deer Trail resident Phillip Steel, 48, author of the proposal, said in an interview that he has 28 signatures on a petition — roughly 10 percent of the town's registered voters said "I don't want to live in a surveillance society. I don't feel like being in a virtual prison," Steel said. "This is a pre-emptive strike." He dismissed the FAA's warning. "The FAA doesn't have the power to make a law," he said.

Photo Gallery: Drone Killer Protest at CIA Headquarters

Photo gallery of protest against CIA's killer drone program. Fifty people protested killer drones at the main gate of the CIA in Virginia on Saturday, June 29, 2013, and six individuals were arrested attempting to deliver a letter to CIA director William Brennan calling for an end to drone killings. The action was organized by the National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance [NCNR], a group that has been active in challenging U.S. invasions of Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries, abolishing torture, closing Guantanamo, and bringing an end to drone warfare.
