Palestinians Take Their Fight For Justice To The Mountains

Palestinians are not going anywhere. This is the gist of seven decades of Palestinian struggle against Zionist colonialism. The proof? The story of Ahmed Amarneh. Amarneh, a 30-year-old civil engineer from the northern West Bank village of Farasin, lives with his family in a cave. For many years, the Amarneh family has attempted to build a proper home, but their request has been denied by the Israeli military every time. In many ways, the struggle of the Amarnehs is a microcosm of the collective struggle of Farasin; in fact, of most Palestinians.

Anti-Occupation Activists Find Their Place In Israeli Protests

The growing presence of Israeli anti-occupation protesters has been one of the most notable aspects of the wave of demonstrations that started on July 14 outside the Prime Minister’s Residence on Balfour Street, Jerusalem. Among other things, this bloc of protesters have demanded justice for Iyad al-Hallaq, a Palestinian with autism whom Israeli police shot dead in the Old City of Jerusalem in late May. The anti-occupation bloc, comprising several hundred protesters, are not on the margins of the demonstrations. Last Saturday night, for example, it was possible to hear them chanting “Justice for Iyad” at the Prime Minister’s residence, even as Israeli riot police were forcefully dispersing the crowd. In contrast to countless instances over the past decade, in which left-wing protesters have tried to insert radical messaging into mainstream demonstrations and been met with rejection or violence, this time, the response was very different.

Chicago Protest: No To The Continuation Of The Theft Of Palestinian Land

Over 300 cars and 700 Palestinians, Arabs, and supporters gathered today in the heart of our community in the southwest suburbs of Chicago to say #NoToAnnexation, no to colonization, no to the occupation, and no to the continuation of the theft of Palestinian land at the hands of Israel. Organized by Coalition for Justice in Palestine. A rally was followed by a car caravan through our community neighborhoods. After about an hour of the two-mile-long caravan, USPCN members, SJP Chicago students, and other Arab youth shut down the busy intersection of 87th Street and Harlem Avenue in the middle of rush hour and managed to occupy it for almost ten minutes. This is a historic day for the southwest suburban Arab community, which has never before seen an action like this in its neighborhood. It is also a testament to the strong relationship between USPCN, the students of SJP-Chicago, and the broader Arab community.

100 Jewish Lawyers And Judges Call On Israel To Halt Annexation Plans

Palestine Legal joins widespread international condemnation of Israel’s annexation attempts in the West Bank and highlights legal resources for protesters participating in Wednesday’s Day of Rage against annexation in the U.S. We recognize that this is the latest move in 70+ years of Israel’s efforts to annex — or fully colonize — Palestinian land. We also recognize that the failure of international law to protect Palestinians or hold Israel accountable further highlights the importance of grassroots efforts to resist Israel’s colonization and ethnic cleansing plans, including mass protests. We share an incomplete list of actions around the U.S. organized by Palestinian communities and their supporters:

Palestinian Citizens Of Israel Protest Land Grab In Negev Desert

Hundreds of Palestinian citizens of Israel protested on Monday in the Negev region to denounce the Israeli government policy of house demolitions and evacuation orders in the village of Khirbet al-Watan. Marwan Abu Frieh, a coordinator and field researcher for the Adalah human rights centre in Israel, told Middle East Eye that Israel’s Jewish National Fund (JNF) and the Israel Land Authority (ILA) were planning to plant hundreds of trees on lands from five Bedouin villages, including Khirbet al-Watan, which had all received demolition orders and faced the displacement of thousands of residents "in the name of developing the area". Demonstrators started marching from Khirbet al-Watan and ended in front of the courthouse in Beersheba, carrying banners accusing the JNF and ILA of forcible land grabs, displacement of Palestinians and discriminatory practices.

Thousands Of Palestinians Protest Against Israeli Annexation Plan

Thousands of Palestinians have rallied in Jericho to protest against Israel's unilateral plan to annex large swaths of the occupied West Bank and Jordan Valley.  Monday's gathering was also attended by dozens of foreign diplomats, including the United Nations peace envoy for the Middle East, Nickolay Mladenov, and the European Union's representative, Sven Kuehn von Burgsdorff. British, Chinese, Russian, Japanese and Jordanian diplomats were also at the rally. Citing the presence of the dignitaries, Al Jazeera's Nida Ibrahim said: "Palestinians hope that by doing gatherings like this, they would pressure the international community." "They want the foreign diplomats to [speak] to their countries to pressure Israel not to move forward with its plan," she said from the Jericho rally. "They want these countries to tell Israel that they are going to impose sanctions."

July 1: Call To Action To Confront Israeli Annexation, Free Palestine

We know that many Palestinians in exile and supporters of Palestine are, like Samidoun’s members, engaged in the uprisings and mass mobilizations taking to the streets to confront anti-Black racism and demand the defunding and dismantling of police and other structures of oppression. Confronting Israel’s annexation plans – fully backed by U.S. imperialism and inspired by Zionist racism – also comes as part of the global fightback against racism, colonialism and imperialism. Israel’s crimes are backed by $3.8 billion in military aid from the U.S. each year as well as unlimited diplomatic, political and “security” support from Canada, the European Union, Britain, Australia and other imperialist powers.

From Occupation To ‘Occupy’: The Israelification Of US Domestic Security

The Israelification of America’s security apparatus recently unleashed in full force against the Occupy Wall Street Movement, has taken place at every level of law enforcement, and in areas that have yet to be exposed. The phenomenon has been documented in bits and pieces, through occasional news reports that typically highlight Israel’s national security prowess without examining the problematic nature of working with a country accused of grave human rights abuses. But it has never been the subject of a national discussion. And collaboration between American and Israeli cops is just the tip of the iceberg. Having been schooled in Israeli tactics perfected during a 63 year experience of controlling, dispossessing, and occupying an indigenous population, local police forces have adapted them to monitor Muslim and immigrant neighborhoods in US cities.

Netanyahu Pledges To Build 3,500 Illegal Homes In Key West Bank Area

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Tuesday his plans to authorize the construction of some 3,500 new illegal homes for Jewish settlers in one of the most sensitive areas of the occupied West Bank. "I have given instructions to immediately publish for deposit the plan to build 3,500 housing units in E-1," Netanyahu said in a speech, describing the first phase of a planning process, adding that "this had been delayed for six or seven years."

Profiting From Loss: How Business In Illegal Israeli Settlements Continues Unchecked

After lengthy delays, the United Nations finally published a database last week of businesses that have been profiting from Israel’s illegal settlement activity in the West Bank. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, announced that 112 major companies had been identified as operating in Israeli settlements in ways that violate human rights.

Athletes Take A Knee Against Israel’s Occupation

In August of 2016, quarterback Colin Kaepernick began his NFL season by kneeling during the national anthem in protest of racism and state violence. He purposefully chose the space of the anthem to raise the issue of the gap between what this nation promises and what it delivers. It was a powerful, iconic act that inspired athletes from a variety of sports to do the same. From the pros to college, to high school, to even middle school, athletes were inspired to take a knee less to lend their solidarity to Kaepernick than to protest racist police killings where they lived. In the tradition—and the extension—of this movement, two volleyball players from Brooklyn College went to one knee before a game this week against Yeshiva University.

Pompeo: US Rejects UN Database Of Israeli Settlement Companies

United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday said the US government would not furnish any information for a database of companies operating in the occupied West Bank that the United Nations' human rights office released, and said the compilation hurts efforts in the Middle East. "The United States has long opposed the creation or release of this database," he said in a statement.

After 18 Years of US Occupation, Poll Finds Zero Percent Of Afghans Thriving, 85 Percent “Suffering”

Since the 2001 occupation of Afghanistan began, fighting has not stopped, destroying the country and leading to the U.S. spending an estimated $2 trillion on the war. American polling firm Gallup has found that Afghans are the saddest people on earth, finding that nearly nine in ten respondents are “suffering,” in their own words, with zero percent claiming that they are currently “thriving.” When asked to rate their life out of a score of ten, Afghans gave an average answer of 2.7, a record low for any country studied. Worse still, when asked to predict the quality of their life in five years, the average answer was even lower: 2.3.

Issawiya — The East Jerusalem Neighborhood At The Forefront Of Occupation

It’s been six months of unrest in Issawiya. Excessive police brutality and indiscriminate daily raids by Israeli forces with no justification have left residents of the East Jerusalem district exhausted – and there is no end in sight. “What’s been happening is very violent police raids, by very violent policemen who lack any values,” Ahmad Adam Masri, an Issawiya local described of the campaign that residents say is the most brutal and prolonged in living memory. “What goes on in the alleys of Issawiya is oppression, is suffering, is injustice and we’ve been tolerating it for six months.”

In Israel’s Attempt To Deflect ICC Prosecutor’s Call To Probe War Crimes, It Admitted To The Occupation

In a contemporary take on the historic declaration "Um-Shmum" – a Hebrew expression of disdain for the United Nations attributed to David Ben-Gurion – Israel has been cooking up a follow-up that could be dubbed "Hague-Shmague." Hague-Shmague posits that the institutions of international law are no more than a redundant nuisance, biased and even anti-Semitic, and should have no clout over the lives of Israelis. This derogatory thesis has been adopted by the State of Israel since its inception, even though it was international institutions that led to its founding.
