UAE Company Cracks Down On ‘Block The Boat’ Picket Line In Canada

A small town in northern British Columbia was recently the backdrop for a chilling display of how Emirati influence and power can be used to attempt to suppress popular support for Palestine. On June 14, Prince Rupert was the scene of a Block The Boat community picket against the Israeli Zim Volans ship that had been chased away from Oakland. For a day and a half, members of ILWU 505 had respected the picket line and the Volans had sat idle. Eventually, an emergency injunction was granted, and the Volans was finally unloaded and left for Shanghai, China. A week later, DP World, the company that handles the specific terminal in Prince Rupert Port where the Volans docked, sent out notices delivering a 3-day suspension to 94 port workers who had respected the picket.

British Activist Climbs 200m Crane In Solidarity With Palestinians

A 69-year-old activist has scaled and spent the night atop a 200 metre high crane near the United States embassy in London, in solidarity with Palestinians. Nick Georges, who is a grandfather, climbed up the crane in the Battersea area of south London at 4am on Tuesday, unfurling a Palestinian flag from the summit. In a video address, he said he had climbed the tower frame "to tell the world about Palestine". "For three months, I was sent to Palestine as a humanitarian witness," Georges said. "I witnessed the atrocities and the horrors of the illegal Israeli occupation of the Palestinian homeland." A 69 year old, Nick Georges has risked his life climbing a 650ft crane and planting a Palestinian flag on it next to the US embassy.

The US Isn’t An Israel Puppet, Israel Isn’t A US Puppet

Nearly 200,000 protesters attended a pro-Palestine demonstration in Central London on Saturday afternoon, another clear sign that support for Palestinian rights is becoming increasingly mainstream and the imperialists are losing control of the Israel narrative. The real consequence of this is that people will begin losing trust in the government and media institutions which support Israel, because without trust the empire can’t propagandize people, and without the ability to propagandize us our rulers cannot rule. There’s no risk for Israel of losing US backing due to the US government suddenly evolving a conscience or listening to its constituents, that won’t happen, but losing control of the narrative poses a major problem for the empire.

Sheikh Jarrah: What Is Happening And How You Can Take Action Now

Over the last number of weeks and days Palestinian protests to #SaveSheikhJarrah, in occupied East Jerusalem, have grown in size. They have been met with brutal repression by Israeli apartheid security forces, including police officers trained in Israel’s police training academy partially owned by G4S and Allied Universal.  Indigenous Palestinian residents of Sheikh Jarrah have fought lengthy legal battles in Israeli courts against eviction orders which would see them ethnically cleansed, forcefully evicted from their homes, and replaced with illegal Israeli settlers. Last week, 7 May 2021, Israeli settlers have submitted their response to the rightful claims of the residents of Sheikh Jarrah to the Israeli court, an apparatus of Israel's apartheid regime.

The Israel Narrative Is Crumbling

Social media is teeming with viral video footage of police assaulting peaceful worshippers in the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, of Israelis cheering and chanting “Yimach shemam (may their names be erased)” at the sight of a fire near the mosque, of Israeli soldiers arresting Palestinian protesters using the signature knee-on-neck maneuver made famous by the murder of George Floyd, many of which have millions of views. Mainstream politicians on both sides of the Atlantic are putting out statements explicitly condemning Israel as the aggressor in these attacks, and the White House is facing some actual adversarial journalism for once regarding its refusal to denounce the killing of Palestinian children and its absurd position that Palestinians have no right to defend themselves.

Over 215 Injuries Among Palestinian Worshipers At Al-Aqsa Mosque

Occupied Jerusalem - The Red Crescent said that the number of injuries among Palestinian worshipers at Al-Aqsa Mosque has increased to reach more than 215, including 135 cases that were hospitalized and 4 in critical condition. Most of the injuries were to the face and eyes, as the occupation forces have been firing rubber-coated metal bullets and stun grenades at the worshipers, the Red Crescent said. Several worshipers are also trapped in the Qibali prayer room at Al-Aqsa Mosque, as the Israeli forces prevented them from going to the courtyards of the mosque, and attacked them with tear gas canisters.

Hundreds Of Palestinians Protesting Evictions In Jerusalem Are Injured

More than 200 Palestinians were wounded and at least one partially blinded over night in East Jerusalem when Israeli police fired rubber-coated steel bullets and stun grenades at thousands of people who were protesting Israeli settlers and security forces' ongoing effort to dispossess Palestinians of their land in the occupied territory. Israel's violent oppression of Palestinians, which has intensified in recent days, continued Saturday. "What's happening in Jerusalem and Palestine more broadly is not a 'clash' or a 'scuffle,' but a state-sanctioned campaign of Israeli violence against Palestinians," the Institute for Middle East Understanding (IMEU) said Saturday. "To pretend otherwise is to minimize the horrors we are witnessing."

UK Threatens To Charge Palestine Action With Terrorism

Emily Arnott from the group Palestine Action told The Electronic Intifada that she found the suggestion “absolutely ridiculous.” Arnott confirmed that members of London’s Metropolitan Police recently interviewed her in a Manchester police station. A Metropolitan Police officer “implied that what Palestine Action is doing could be considered [to be] terrorism and that we could be charged under terrorist offenses,” she said. The interviewing officer said the amount of damage allegedly caused by Palestine Action “could possibly push it into the remit of alleged terrorist offenses, but they would not be considered terrorist offenses at that time,” Arnott explained. Arnott has been charged with conspiracy to commit criminal damage against property belonging to Israel’s Elbit Systems in the UK and its property manager Jones Lang LaSalle.

Joint Submission To UN Special Rapporteur Over Israel’s Settler-Colonial, Apartheid Regime

On 30 April 2021, the Palestinian Human Rights Organizations Council (PHROC); Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies; and Habitat International Coalition – Housing and Land Rights Network submitted a joint submission to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, Mr Michael Lynk, laying out the framework for the illegality of Israeli colonial settlements, which are key to Israel’s settler-colonial and apartheid regime, and analysing their impact on the Palestinian people’s rights. The joint submission is pursuant to a call for input ahead of the Special Rapporteur’s report on the issue, which will be presented to the Human Rights Council in its 47th Session (21 June – 9 July 2021).

Jordan Releases Note Of Protest Against Israeli Attacks In Al-Aqsa Mosque

Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates sent Israel a note of protest calling it to stop its attacks in the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and respect its current historic and legal position.  The Ministry condemned in a statement the continuation of Israel's attacks in Al-Aqsa Mosque as it allowed the extremist settlers to raid Al-Aqsa Mosque in the last 10 days of Ramadan with severe protection from the Israeli police.  Daifallah ALfayez, the spokesperson of the ministry, said that the Jordanian kingdom condemned the Israeli attacks against Al-Aqsa Mosque and considered it a violation of the current historic and legal position, the international law, and the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Lessons Learned From The Chauvin Trial That Relate To Palestine

Over thirty years ago, James Baldwin was the subject of a PBS documentary The Price of the Ticket (1989) in which he reflected on what he considered a lack of progress in combatting racism in America: “What is it that you wanted me to reconcile myself to. I was born here more than 60 years ago. I’m not going to live another 60 years. You always told me that it’s going to take time. It’s taken my father’s time, my mother’s time, my uncle’s time, my brothers’ and my sisters’ time, my nieces and my nephew’s time. How much time do you want for your progress?” Sadly, his comment remains vital today. On April 21, 2021, a jury found Minneapolis police officer Derrick Chauvin guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the death of George Floyd. There has been much written regarding whether the verdict represents justice for Floyd...

Make Aid To Israel Conditional On Protecting Palestinian Rights

The US Democratic party’s leading senators and last year’s presidential aspirants, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, on Monday, April 20 called on the Joe Biden administration to use the billions of dollars of aid given to Israel to pressurize it to protect Palestinian human rights and work for a peaceful resolution of the conflict. The senators were speaking at the conference of J Street, a “pro-Israel, pro-peace” lobbying group in the US.   Both Sanders and Warren, speaking separately, asked for putting conditions on the military aid to Israel. They argued that the US aid is used by Israel to prolong its occupation of Palestine and prevent the achievement of peace in the region. Several other members of the US Congress spoke in support of placing conditions on the aid and for a two-state solution.

Jewish National Fund Declares It Will Fund Land Confiscation In The West Bank

Last month, for the first time in its long history, the Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF) openly declared that it will fund land confiscation in the West Bank, in defiance of international law. Its board of governors voted through the allocation of NIS 38 million to purchase land to expand Jewish-only settlements.  All Israeli settlements, based on stolen Palestinian land in the West Bank, constitute a war crime under international law.  Yet the British arm of KKL-JNF, JNF UK, continues to be a registered charity, enjoying tax exemption to raise funds for its parent organisation.  This decision is not an aberration, or a reversal of existing JNF policy, but a clear indication that the settlement expansion driven by Israel’s far right government and emboldened by the support it received from the Trump administration, is set to continue, more blatantly than previously.

Academics At UK University Reject IHRA Anti-Semitism Definition

Academics at a major British university last week voted to reverse their institution’s adoption of the misleading anti-Semitism definition promoted by Israel and its lobby. A report by University College London’s academic board states that the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s “working definition” of anti-Semitism “is not fit for purpose within a university setting and has no legal basis for enforcement.” The board voted to endorse the report last week. It will now be up to university management to decide whether the vote will be implemented. The university’s branch of the University and College Union is campaigning against the definition. The report was more than a year in the making.

Striking Palestinian Workers Triumph

After 19 days of an open-ended strike demanding their human and labor rights, Palestinian workers at Yamit have suspended their strike. The workers’ committee has reached this decision following an agreement with the company to meet their demands. The agreement, which still needs to go through legal procedures in Israeli courts states the following: The workers get back to work and continue the negotiations with Yamit for a period of three months. During this period, the workers receive an increase of around 200$ on their wages. The Palestinian workers are paid a holiday usually given to Israeli workers in July on an annual basis. Workers who finish work at Yamit should receive an end of service benefits based on the number of years they have been working for the company.
