Livin’ On Tulsa Time: Infiltrating ‘Trump Country’ To Fly A Different Flag

Once spotted — read: ironically snitched on by onlooking National Guardsmen — our group was rapidly swarmed by a boatload of aggressive, somewhat violent, police officers.  My Marine Corps infantry veteran buddy was shoved to the ground and hit his head (thankfully without serious injury) with the rest quickly shepherded to the exits. Arrest seemed imminent, but in the end only the three climbers — plus a distinctly soft-spoken and older Vietnam veteran “packing” only a camera — were actually booked. There was some crowd jeering directed our way during the exit march, with one memorable Trump enthusiast yelling “Antifa!” at another marine vet friend, before loudly yelling “in tongues” in his face. It’s hard to imagine a more apt symbol of much that’s bizarre and distasteful in Trump World. Matters could have ended worse. In a sense, the real fear stemmed from the crowd, the MAGA mob, and — without complete hyperbole given the amphitheater scene — a vigilante attack.

Memorial Day Panel By US Anti-war Veterans

A group of anti-war veteran activists discuss how they view Memorial Day through the lens of their time in the military and their work afterwards. The guest list included Matthew Hoh, Clifton Hicks, Jovanni Reyes, Erik Edstrom, Ryan Keen, Keagan Miller, Danny Sjursen, and Chris Henrikson.

Dual Paths in Dark Times: Despair Or Hope For Antiwar Dreamers

Two futures lie before us. Like the classic visions of late-Old Testament prophets, contemporary observers – perhaps voyeurs – of U.S. national security policy can, at this precipice of pandemic, discern, however vaguely, as dual, dichotomous prospective paths unfurl.

Minneapolis Joins With 90 U.S. Cities To Say “U.S. Troops Out Of Iraq – No War On Iran”

Milwaukee, WI - The Freedom Road Socialist Organization was named in an article published in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on January 7 after a candidate for Milwaukee County Executive was pictured at an anti-war protest near a FRSO banner. Wisconsin FRSO does not currently endorse candidates for public office, however, we appreciate political candidates that are willing to take a principled stand against Trump’s escalation of war with Iran.

It’s Time To Rebuild The Anti-War Movement

The US’s assassination of Qasem Soleimani last week is a clear demonstration that the US has no intentions of ever pulling out of the Middle East. If we wish to avoid further conflict in the region, we must build an anti-war movement as strong and determined as the one that helped end the Vietnam War. As bourgeois politicians and news outlets quibble over the logistics of a new war in the Middle East, people in the United States are taking to the streets to say “no.” These protesters understand that another war in the Middle East does not mean stability in the region...

Sheep-Dogging On Steroids: The New Democratic Party Anti-War Activists

In the cynical spectacle that is called politics in the United States, the latest insult to the intelligence of the people is the Democrats who are posturing as anti-war champions in reaction to the Trump Administration’s assassination of Qassem Soleimani and the possibility of further attacks on Iran.  We are supposed to buy that the Democrats are concerned about war with Iran. The same Democrats who opposed de-escalation with North Korea; who blocked any attempt to remove U.S. occupation forces from South Korea...

Where Are The National Anti-War Monuments?

I travel frequently and have seen the many monuments to soldiers and to wars that occupy our city squares and parks.  In the summer of 2005 my son James and I visited Washington, DC after he finished his first year of college.  We made the standard tour of the city, visiting museums, the White House, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, and the newly dedicated National World War II Memorial. These memorials exist to reinforce the notion that war efforts or activities are highly valued and rewarded by our society.

No ‘Artwash’ For Bush’s Crimes, Says CodePink In Protest Of Exhibit Of Former President’s Paintings Of Veterans In War He Started

Activists from anti-war group CodePink on Sunday protested an exhibit of paintings of veterans by former President George W. Bush at the Kennedy Center, calling the decision to feature the work an example of "artwash." Bush's paintings have been controversial over his post-presidency, with much of the criticism focusing on the appearance of the former president using as subjects the men who went to war in Iraq because of fase claims about Iraq. "Why are we celebrating the guy who took these people to war?" asked CodePink co-founder Medea Benjamin at the group's protest Sunday.

Report On NoWar2019 Pathways To Peace Conference, Limerick, Ireland

An anti-war conference called ‘NoWar2019 Pathways to Peace’ took place last weekend at Limerick’s South Court Hotel, organised by WorldBeyondWar. Irish and international concerned parties met to consider the extent of militarism in Ireland and elsewhere, and to work towards preventing the war response everywhere with all its inhumane impacts. Speakers included seasoned Irish and American activists, contributors from Germany, Spain, Afghanistan, journalists and others. A video link enabled MEP Clare Daly to join from Brussels. Presenter and producer of RTÉ Global Affairs series What in the World...

Rage Against The War Machine: An Interview With Peace Activist Cindy Sheehan

Some 2.7 billion dollars per day. That’s how much the U.S. government will spend next year to prop up the military and the more than 800 bases it maintains in over 70 countries. All in the name of national security. And despite that staggering figure, a majority of Americans feel that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were not even worth fighting, and they certainly have not made America safer. That money is more than enough to pay for four years of college for every college student in this country, to fund food stamps and other social safety nets that help our most vulnerable...

Veterans, Anti-War Activists Protest Proposed Air Force Base Expansion In Nevada

Las Vegas-area veterans joined anti-war activists outside Nellis Air Force Base for a protest against the proposed expansion of the Nevada Test and Training Range. The approximately 25 demonstrators on Thursday were the latest to voice opposition to the U.S. Air Force’s plan to expand the 2.9-million acre range, located in rural Clark, Lincoln and Nye counties. The Air Force hopes to extend the range by 301,507 acres, the vast majority of which would be in the Desert National Wildlife Refuge. The range already overlaps with about half of the 1.6 million-acre refuge, the largest wildlife refuge in the contiguous United States.

Ajamu Baraka Awarded US PEACE PRIZE

Michael Knox, Chair of the Foundation, presented the award during a forum on September 23 in New York City.  In his remarks Knox said, “Thank you, Ajamu, for your outstanding domestic and international activism to end wars and militarism.  We applaud your long and distinguished record of working for social justice, human rights, civil rights, and peace.  Many antiwar organizations have benefited from your innovative leadership and consultation.  You are a force in revitalizing the Black antiwar tradition.

Appeals Court Tells FBI To Destroy Memo On Anti-War Website

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The FBI must destroy 15-year-old records of its investigation into the two co-founders of a San Francisco online anti-war website and the site’s activities, a federal appeals court ruled. The FBI started looking into antiwar.com and its editors in 2004 after the website posted two “watch lists” of people the FBI was investigating after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, according to a memo co-founders Eric Garris and Justin Raimondo obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Friday.

Hands Off Hong Kong: The Cry Seldom Heard

Through the summer the world has watched as protests shook Hong Kong. As early as April they began as peaceful demonstrations which peaked in early June, with hundreds of thousands, in protest of an extradition bill. That bill would have allowed Hong Kong, a Special Administrative Region of China, to return criminals to Taiwan, mainland China or Macau for crimes committed there – after approval by multiple layers of the Hong Kong judiciary. In the wake of those enormous nonviolent demonstrations, Carrie Lam, CEO of Hong Kong, “suspended” consideration of the extradition bill, a face-saving ploy.

Anti-War Climate Justice, Arizona’s All-Seeing Eye & Kids As Pre-Existing Conditions

Indigenous lands become a testing ground for Israeli-US mass surveillance – and once again indigenous wisdom throws common sense at the blundering idiocy of empire. Plus, kids as pre-existing conditions and detention centers as black sites. Next up, the people are mobilizing and connecting issues and power in the face of imperialist climate change.
