Congress Is Investigating The Military’s Use Of Facial Recognition

The House Committee on Oversight and Reform is officially investigating military and private-sector use of facial recognition, according to a letter sent to top military officials in June. The letter, obtained by OneZero under a public records request, outlines a broad inquiry into all weapons and security technologies used by the U.S. Department of Defense, Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as accuracy analyses and partnerships with public or private institutions. “The operational benefits of facial recognition technology for the warfighter are promising,” the letter says.

US Military To Initiate Military Drills Near Venezuelan – Colombian Border

The US embassy in Bogota reported that on Monday they will begin infantry exercises, with the aim of rehearsing a possible invasion of Venezuela, camouflaged through alleged “humanitarian aid.” The announcement was made by the US SOUTHCOM through its twitter account, where they reported that: “The Marines came to Covenas, Colombia, while preparing to begin a week of training in humanitarian assistance,” reported the US army account. They also announced that in this “alleged” humanitarian assistance activity, communications and aerial operations will be carried out together with the Colombian Marine Corps.

MIlitary Suicides Spike To New Record High

WASHINGTON (AP) — Military suicides have surged to a record high among active duty troops, continuing a deadly trend that Pentagon officials say is frustrating and they are struggling to counter. The Army, Navy and Marine Corps all saw the rate of suicides go up as well as the overall numbers, with only the Air Force showing a decrease, according to data released by the Pentagon Thursday. Suicides among members of the Reserves and the National Guard also grew.

Trump’s Border Wall Pulls Funding From Military Base Schools And Daycares

The Pentagon released a statement on Wednesday saying it has authorized $3.6 billion in military construction funds to help fund 175 miles of Trump’s U.S.-Mexico border wall. This money was originally allocated for roughly 127 Defense Department projects, which included schools and daycare centers for military families.  “The wall is being built. It’s going up rapidly. And we think by the end of next year, which will be sometime right after the election actually, but we think we’re going to have close to 500 miles of wall, which will be complete,” claims Trump.

Should We Feed Hungry Children, Or The War Machine?

On August 21, the Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, Lise Grande, put out a heartbreaking call for nations to make good on their pledges to send humanitarian aid to feed destitute families in war-torn Yemen. Unless the funds promised are received soon, she warned, food rations for 12 million people would be reduced and at least 2.5 million malnourished children would be cut-off from the services that keep them alive. “When money doesn’t come,” Grande said bluntly, “people die.”

We Can’t Confront Climate Change While Lavishly Funding The Pentagon

The Pentagon is staring down the barrel of what could become the longest, hottest war in U.S. history. This titanic clash pits the largest military the world has ever seen against an omnipresent opponent that can marshal resources like no enemy it has ever encountered. That opponent is climate change, and according to a joint investigation by NBC News and InsideClimate News, the extreme heat it brings is already generating military casualties. But soldiers like Sgt. Sylvester Cline are not dying where you might expect, such as scorching, oil-rich targets like Iraq, where Cline served during a lie-tainted war.

The War Of Tankers Is Far From Ending, It Is Just Beginning

The UK acknowledged its first defeat by Iran when it released the Iranian supertanker “Grace 1” captured by 30 Royal Navy commandos in the first week of July in response to a US request, as the Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell revealed. In response, Iran will release the British-flagged tanker “Stena Impero”, captured by the “Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps” (IRGC) Special Forces before Saturday mid-day. This tit-for-tat response by Iran showed its determined deterrence policy towards the west:  Iran is ready to accept any consequences, including a possible war if necessary.

Is The US Military Preparing US For “Limited” Nuclear War?

Coming now, with active military confrontations between the United States and Russia, China, and Iran, and an ongoing war on North Korea involving the US and United Nations, it amounts to a threat to use “limited” nuclear war against these nations. Without strong opposition from the US Congress and an informed public outcry, I’m afraid our military leaders will believe they have enough public support to escalate threat of nuclear war on many fronts.

US Military Is A Bigger Polluter Than As Many As 140 Countries – Shrinking This War Machine Is A Must

The US military’s carbon bootprint is enormous. Like corporate supply chains, it relies upon an extensive global network of container ships, trucks and cargo planes to supply its operations with everything from bombs to humanitarian aid and hydrocarbon fuels. Our new study calculated the contribution of this vast infrastructure to climate change. Greenhouse gas emission accounting usually focuses on how much energy and fuel civilians use. But recent work, including our own, shows that the US military is one of the largest polluters in history, consuming more liquid fuels and emitting more climate-changing gases than most medium-sized countries.

Bath Police Arrest 22 Protesters Outside BIW Before Warship Christening Ceremony

BATH — Police arrested 22 protesters Saturday morning for blocking traffic or gates outside Bath Iron Works leading up to a christening ceremony for the future USS Daniel Inouye. The protests are part of a larger pushback by peace and environmental groups against the United States’ global military presence and, more recently, the military’s contribution to global climate change. Peace and environmental activists gathered in the Portland Public Library Friday demanding BIW convert from making military vessels to wind turbines.

Iran Goes For “Maximum Counter-Pressure”

Sooner or later the US “maximum pressure” on Iran would inevitably be met by “maximum counter-pressure”. Sparks are ominously bound to fly. For the past few days, intelligence circles across Eurasia had been prodding Tehran to consider a quite straightforward scenario. There would be no need to shut down the Strait of Hormuz if Quds Force commander, General Qasem Soleimani, the ultimate Pentagon bête noire, explained in detail, on global media, that Washington simply does not have the military capacity to keep the Strait open.

Scenario Fulfillment? Why Should We Believe US On Location Of Drone Shot Down By Iran?

The Iranian military shot down a US spy drone yesterday. The US says the drone, a $22 million RQ-4A Global Hawk was in international airspace. Iran said the drone was over Iranian airspace. Are we looking into "Scenario Fulfillment?" But why should one believe the US with its history of lying? Remember back to 1988 when a U.S. military warship USS Vincennes, a guided missile cruiser shot down Iran Air Flight 655 with all 290 people on board including 66 children. The regularly scheduled passenger flight was over Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf on the routine flight path shortly after taking off from Bandar Abbas heading on the 28-minute flight to Dubai.

Iran Emphasizes Diplomacy While US Escalates Militarism

May 28, 2019 "Information Clearing House" -  When history of the present US-Iran stand-off in the Persian Gulf is written, future scholars may note how it was Tehran that saved the day from full-scale war by its responsible diplomatic outreach to regional neighbors. This weekend saw the usual feckless American vacillations resulting in even more military power being deployed in the Middle East where US troops already number some 70,000. President Donald Trump has dispatched more squadrons of fighter jets, warships and missiles which he says are for “protection” against alleged Iranian threats.

The Navy’s War Vs. Bolton’s War

The recent White House decision to speed the deployment of an aircraft carrier battle group and other military assets to the Persian Gulf has led many in Washington and elsewhere to assume that the U.S. is gearing up for war with Iran. As in the lead-up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, U.S. officials have cited suspect intelligence data to justify elaborate war preparations. On May 13th, acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan even presented top White House officials with plans to send as many as 120,000 troops to the Middle East for possible future combat with Iran and its proxies.

U.S. Army: 0 — Internet: 1

My grandparents were used as pawns serving the US army in aiding them on the Ho Chi Minh trail. They served in The Secret War, and when the US lost the Vietnam war the Hmong were left to die in genocide. To this day Hmong veterans are not recognized by the US army. More than half of my people were wiped out through genocide. Only about a third of what once was the Hmong population are scattered in diaspora around the world. Many in the US who deal with PTSD through alcoholism, abuse, and addiction to opium.
