UN Report On Venezuela Omits The Greatest Violation Of Human Rights

On September 23, María Eugenia Russián, president of Fundalatin, Venezuela’s oldest human rights organization, testified to the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and decried an attempt by a UNHRC fact-finding mission to erase people who were “lynched, burned alive, decapitated and murdered by extremist sectors of the Venezuelan opposition.” This fact-finding mission had published a report a week earlier that generated sensationalist headlines of “crimes against humanity” and painted a bleak picture of the situation in Venezuela.

Using Human Rights To Promote War

Red Lines host Anya Parampil debunks a new report issued by the UN Human Right's Council which accuses Venezuela's government of "crimes against humanity". She points out major flaws in the report's methodology and exposes one of its authors as a defender of Chilean fascists. She explains that the US and its allies are weaponizing human right in order to drum up support for a war on Venezuela.

Unfounded UN Report On Venezuela Used As Regime Change Tool

The United Nations Human Rights Council issued a report* by the Independent Mission to Determine the Facts in Venezuela (Independent Mission), which accuses Venezuela of “cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment committed since 2014.” The veracity, timing, and political intent of this report is best understood in the context of a campaign led by the U.S. to overthrow Venezuela’s democratically elected government of President Nicolás Maduro and before him of Hugo Chávez. Venezuela is a historically petroleum exporting nation and has consequently suffered from the crash in the international oil prices starting in 2014.

Venezuela: Democracy Versus Blockade

On December 6 there will be elections in Venezuela to elect all the deputies to the National Assembly (NA), an event of extraordinary political transcendence. But before going into that subject I will mention the elections that will be held in several Latin American countries in the coming months, all of them are very important in the dispute for our America between the right-wing and the popular forces. On October 18, general elections in Bolivia, where Evo Morales’ MAS is the favorite to win in the first round, but the big question remains whether the same oligarchic and racist group that, supported by Washington, overthrew Morales and established a dictatorship, is willing to recognize the victory of the “savages,” as they call the Indians.

US Sanctions Opposition Parties In Venezuela Ahead Of Elections

Elections for Venezuela’s National Assembly are fast approaching. But the United States does not want them to go ahead at all. Sanctions on Venezuela are nothing new. But yesterday Secretary of State Mike Pompeo took the unusual step of sanctioning leaders of local opposition parties in an attempt to pressure them to pull out of the contest in December. Remarkably, considering the well-documented flaws with the same problems in the U.S., Pompeo’s statement dubiously claimed that Venezuelan voting machines are unreliable, that millions of voters remain unregistered, and that the country’s supreme electoral council is politicized and hand-picked by the executive branch.

Venezuela: From ‘Magical Realism’ To Parliamentary Elections

Elliott Abrams, White House Special Envoy for Venezuela, recently referred to [far right politician] Maria Corina Machado’s foreign intervention appeals as “unwise” and “magical realism.” In so doing he made the US military intervention scenario less likely, at least for now, and he unwillingly left the electoral route as the only politically viable option. Meanwhile, Abrams himself has been pushing to escalate the blockade which has now generated a critical fuel shortage situation, with all its implications in terms of food supply and healthcare.

Pompeo Calls For Overthrow Of Venezuelan Government

Guyana - United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo promised millions of dollars to Venezuelan exiles in neighbouring Guyana as he made it clear that Friday’s visit was linked to Washington’s bid to overthrow the Bolivarian government. Stopping off on a speedy Latin American tour, he gave $5 million (£3.87m) to “assist” Venezuelans who have fled the country in a donation believed to be a cash boost to opponents of the democratically elected President Nicolas Maduro.

Venezuela Blasts ‘Politicized’ Report By UN ‘Ghost Mission’

The Venezuelan government rejected a recent report by a United Nations (UN) human rights mission. “It’s a report ridden with falsehoods, written from afar, with no methodological rigor whatsoever,” Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza wrote on Twitter. He went on to emphasize that the report had been written by a “ghost mission” which had not set foot in Venezuela. “This illustrates the perverse practice of playing politics with human rights,” Arreaza concluded, accusing the authors of the report of being “controlled” by US-allied governments.

Venezuela: The 2016-2020 National Assembly – Part Of The Plan

It’s hard to decide which of all the actions of the Venezuelan opposition representatives was the most shameful.  Was it Ramos Allup giving the legitimate elected President Nicolas Madura a 6-month deadline to leave office while removing the portraits of Simon Bolivar and of Comandante Chavez from the Federal Capitol?  Or Julio Borges spreading letters throughout the world in which he called for an increase in the economic blockade against the Venezuelan people while he labeled us a plague in the region?

Venezuela Foils CIA Terror Plot; Pompeo On Regime Change Tour

Venezuela’s government has announced it has foiled a potential terror attack, arresting a former CIA operative while he was on a stakeout near the country’s largest oil refining facility. Matthew John Heath was arrested with three other Venezuelans outside the Amuay and Cardon refineries in Falcon state in the west of the country, reportedly carrying a submachine gun, a grenade launcher, four blocks of C4 explosives, a satellite phone, and stacks of U.S. dollars. He has been charged with terrorism and weapons trafficking.

New Simón Bolívar Institute For Peace And Solidarity Among Peoples

The founding of the Simón Bolívar Institute for Peace and Solidarity Among Peoples on September 6, 2020 marks a new political milestone. In the most difficult of circumstances, having to cope with not only the U.S. and Canadian sanctions but the pandemic as well, the Bolivarian Revolution has made this effort for the benefit of all who believe in its liberatory ideals across the planet. The goal of the Institute is to coordinate global solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution and the Venezuelan people, and the solidarity of the South American nation toward struggles for social and economic justice of peoples throughout the world.

Venezuela Rejects US Hostilities Before UN Human Rights Council

Venezuela's representative before the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council Jorge Valero Tuesday rejected Donald Trump administration's unilateral coercive measures which violate the human rights of his compatriots. He recalled that the United States has looted over US$ 30 billion from the Venezuelan people in the last 4 years. "This is an amount that the Bolivarian government will no longer be able to spend on food, medicine, and medical supplies," Valero said during the Council 45th ordinary session. The U.S. also hinders the arrival of fuel to the country, as it pressures other nations not to acquire Venezuelan oil.

US-Linked PR Firm Ran Fake News Networks For Right-Wing Latin American Regimes

A major US PR firm located just a few blocks from the White House has been caught running an industrial grade propaganda operation on social media. The information warfare blitzkrieg relied on fake accounts and pages to spread disinformation on behalf of right-wing, US-backed governments in Latin America, while deploying covert propaganda to destabilize the leftist governments in Venezuela and Mexico. The company behind the campaign, CLS Strategies, signed a contract to represent Bolivia’s far-right junta and provide “strategic communications counsel” in the lead-up to that country’s ostensible election.
