Genocide

The Old Evil

Ramallah, Occupied Palestine: It comes back in a rush, the stench of raw sewage, the groan of the diesel, sloth-like Israeli armored personnel carriers, the vans filled with broods of children, driven by chalky faced colonists, certainly not from here, probably from Brooklyn or somewhere in Russia or maybe Britain. Little has changed. The checkpoints with their blue and white Israeli flags dot the roads and intersections. The red-tiled roofs of the colonist settlements — illegal under international law — dominate hillsides above Palestinian villages and towns. They have grown in number and expanded in size.

Biden’s Aid Pier In Gaza To Shut Down After Two Months Of Operation

After less than two months since its installation, the United States is set to close Biden’s failed “humanitarian aid pier” in Gaza, which was first announced during the US President’s State of the Union address in March, amid heightened Palestine solidarity protests. The pier served as Biden’s response to growing outrage around the death toll of Israeli attacks in Gaza, the lack of humanitarian aid entering the enclave, and the United States’ sustained political and military support for Israel. The US has also faced accusations that the pier was used by Israeli forces to carry out the Nuseirat refugee camp massacre on June 8 after a video circulated showing an Israeli helicopter taking off near the pier.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 279: Israel Orders Residents To Flee

The Israeli negotiations team returned from Qatar after the first meetings of the resumed ceasefire talks on Wednesday to update the government ahead of upcoming talks in Cairo, Israel’s Channel 12 reported. On Wednesday, the heads of the Israeli Mossad, the CIA, and the Egyptian intelligence met in Doha with Qatar’s Prime Minister to discuss a potential deal with Hamas, as several Israeli and U.S. sources reported “progress” in the talks to reach a deal with the Palestinian group. In Washington, U.S. National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, said that Washington sees an opportunity to reach a ceasefire and prisoners’ exchange deal in Gaza.

Israel’s Leading Paper Says Its Own Army Killed Israelis On October 7

Three days ago, Israel’s leading newspaper, Haaretz, published the results of its thorough, comprehensive investigation into what actually happened when Hamas attacked on October 7. So far, the U.S. mainstream media has not said a word about the shocking results of that investigation. Critics sometimes use the expression “media malpractice” to describe the American mainstream’s failure to report accurately about Israel/Palestine. This time, though, what’s happening is even worse; it has to be deliberate self-censorship, designed to hide the truth from the U.S. audience. Haaretz’s long report found that Israel’s army had employed the “Hannibal Directive” on October 7.

NEA Educators For Palestine Call On Union To Un-Endorse Biden

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - Hundreds of educators held a pro-Palestine rally outside the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia on July 3. They were participating in the National Education Association Representative Assembly, where they planned to introduce 10 New Business items (NBIs) involving education around Palestine, U.S. military spending in support of Israel, support for boycotts targeting Israel  and solidarity with Palestinian unions and with teachers in the U.S. engaged in protests against the genocide in Gaza. The rally was called by NEA Educators for Palestine, who are also pushing the U.S.’s largest teachers’ union to hold a secret ballot vote to rescind its endorsement of President Joe Biden.

Gaza Death Toll Could Reach Half A Million

Israel's assault on Gaza could lead to between 149,000 and 598,000 Palestinian deaths if it were to end immediately, as estimated by experts for The Lancet. The medical journal published a research correspondence between physicians and public health experts on 5 July on the difficulty of accounting for the number of those killed by Israel's war on Gaza, highlighting that both direct and indirect deaths should be considered. The Gaza Health Ministry has reported over 38,000 Palestinians killed since the beginning of the war. But counting the dead and injured has become increasingly difficult for the ministry as the war drags on, now entering its tenth month, the contributors wrote.

Netanyahu Goes For Broke

It is a matter of record that the Zionist project has had extensive territorial designs on the lands known as Palestine since at least the early 20th century. As others have argued, the Israelis’ openly racist assault on the Palestinians of Gaza is to be understood not as a sudden eruption of violence, a departure, but as an especially savage continuation of Zionist conduct for more than a century. When history is brought to bear in this fashion, it becomes increasingly apparent that the invasion of Gaza since the events of last Oct. 7 ought not be seen in isolation. The more pathologically disturbed members of Benjamin Netanyahu’s freak-show regime — notably, but not only, Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben–Givr, the finance and national security ministers — have never been shy on this point.

‘Nurses Against Genocide’ Protest ANA’s Silence

“ANA your hands are red, 160 nurses dead. Silence is complicity. Our code compels us.” These are some of the chants by four defiant nurses who disrupted the American Nurses Association Member Assembly in Washington D.C., which began June 27. Holding a banner reading, “Nurses Against Genocide,” the nurse activists’ dyed their hands red to symbolize the blood of thousands of Gazan martyrs in the ongoing ethnic cleansing by the rogue settler-colonial state of Israel. They stood before the dais at the assembly and halted proceedings as ANA leadership, including President Jennifer Mensik-Kennedy, sat silently.

‘Operation al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 272: Israelis Urge Acceptance Of Ceasefire

The Israeli Mossad and the office of Israel’s Prime Minister announced on Wednesday that mediators in the ceasefire talks gave Israel Hamas’s response to the U.S.-amended ceasefire proposal. Benjamin Netanyahu is set to head a cabinet meeting later on Thursday to discuss Hamas’s response. Meanwhile, Israel’s Channel 12 quoted a high-ranking Israeli official saying that Hamas’s response “for the first time allows for making progress in negotiations.” For its part, the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot reported that the heads of Israel’s security forces were “angry at the attempts of Netanyahu and Smotrich to sabotage the deal,” pointing accusations at Netanyahu of obstructing communication channels with mediators beforehand.

Shut Down Elbit! No Military Tech For Israel!

Cambridge, Massachusetts - Over 100 activists, including members of Workers World Party Boston, gathered on June 29 at Harvard Square to shut down Elbit Systems. Organized by the Palestinian Youth Movement and BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions movement) Boston, Saturday’s action expands the campaign targeting the Israeli-owned arms maker, which continues to supply the weapons and surveillance tech Zionist occupation forces are using in their ongoing genocide of Palestine. Since these actions began, Elbit stock has fallen by over 30%. JPMorgan Chase, a major shareholder, has reduced its investment by 70%, from $54 million to $16 million.

Statement Of US Government Officials Who Resigned Over Policy Toward Gaza, Palestine And Israel

We are former U.S. Government Officials who resigned from our respective positions over the last nine months due to our grave concerns with current U.S. policy towards the crisis in Gaza, and U.S. policies and practices towards Palestine and Israel more broadly. We are subject matter experts representing the interagency, and are a multifaith and multiethnic community of professionals and patriots dedicated to the service of the United States of America, its people, and its values. Whether in the civil service, foreign service, armed forces, or as political appointees, each of us has sworn an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and as our nation celebrates its Independence Day, each of us are reminded that we resigned from government not to terminate that oath but to continue to abide by it; not to end our commitment to service, but to extend it.

Third Biden Administration Appointee Resigns Over Gaza Policy

In 2020, Maryam Hassanein cast her vote for Joe Biden in the first presidential election she was old enough to vote in, believing he represented “hope” and an opportunity for “justice for Muslim Americans and for marginalized communities as a whole.” On Tuesday, Hassanein became the latest member of the Biden administration to publicly resign over the president’s policies on the Gaza war — and the youngest known to resign to date, at age 24. “I learned that even though the agency I work for doesn’t produce foreign policy, serving in the administration in any capacity essentially makes you complicit in the genocide of the Palestinians,” Hassanein told HuffPost of her resignation from the Interior Department, which has not previously been made public.

Spain Is First European State To Back ICJ Genocide Case Against Israel

Spain filed a Declaration of Intervention on 28 June in the case accusing Israel of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), becoming the first European state to do so. “This intervention is motivated by our responsibility as a State party to the Genocide Convention and our firm commitment to international law,” said the Spanish Foreign Ministry. In December, South Africa brought the case against Israel to the ICJ, the world’s highest court, alleging that Israel’s ongoing war on Palestinians in Gaza is a breach of the Genocide Convention. “We seek to contribute to bringing peace back to Gaza and the Middle East,” the Spanish Foreign Ministry added, emphasizing the need for a two-state solution to ensure lasting peace and stability for Palestinians and Israelis.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 265: Gazans Face ‘Catastrophic’ Food Insecurity

Israel’s war minister Yoav Gallant said at the conclusion of his top-level meetings in Washington that Israel does not want an all-out war with Lebanon and that it prefers the diplomatic route for a solution. However, he added that Israel can’t accept the presence of Hezbollah’s units at its northern border. Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the Biden administration was angry over Netanyahu’s public remarks about the U.S.’s withholding of the delivery of arms to Israel. According to reports, the White House told Israel that the delivery of arms would not be completed even after the end of Israel’s operations in Rafah, which Israel has announced to be nearly over.

We Can’t Let The Press Launder Israel’s War

The United States-backed Israeli siege and genocide in Gaza is entering its tenth month. Israel’s relentless bombings and executions by Israeli snipers and soldiers have killed more than 38,100 Palestinians in Gaza, with thousands more uncounted and decomposing under the rubble, and more than 86,000 injured. Reports by nonprofit agencies and organizations have detailed the Israeli military’s numerous war crimes, including abductions, torture and sexual violence against Palestinians. More than 2.3 million Palestinians are at risk of dying from Israeli-imposed starvation, indiscriminate bombing, the spread of disease, and the cold because of Israel’s systematic targeting and elimination of hospitals, sanctuaries, homes and shelters.
