Nicolás Maduro Re-Elected President Of Venezuela

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has been re-elected with 5.1 million votes (51.2% of the total), stated the president of Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE), Elvis Amoroso. Far-right opposition candidate Edmundo González obtained 4.4 million votes (44.2%), and the other candidates obtained 462,704 votes (4.6%). Thus, President Maduro’s margin of victory was deemed irreversible at about seven percentage points. The first bulletin with the results of the Venezuelan presidential elections were released close to midnight on Sunday, July 28. Results were expected to be released around 11 pm. Amoroso explained that the slight delay was the result of an attack against the electronic vote transmission infrastructure.

New York, NY – Several hundred people gathered in midtown Manhattan at The People’s Forum to launch Nodutdol’s U.S. Out of Korea campaign. Hundreds more gathered at events in Oakland and Los Angeles for similar launch events. The event began with Nodutdol organizers presenting the background of the organization. Nodutdol (노듯돌, meaning stepping-stone) has roots in the 1990s when members of the Korean movement would travel to Korea to learn from the people in the South and North of the peninsula about their organizing against U.S. domination. They became fully established in 1999 in Queens, New York and in the early 2000s pivoted their focus to anti-war efforts in the Middle East. They continued their delegation trips to Korea and deepened their anti-imperialist resolve.

The two projected front runners however, are from completely opposite ends of the spectrum: incumbent President Nicolás Maduro and candidate for the right-wing Unitary Democratic Platform, Edmundo González. As election day comes closer, and international mainstream media pays more attention to what is happening in the Caribbean country, several dominant patterns have emerged in the discourse and messages of these outlets.

The Venezuelan National Electoral Council (CNE) announced on Monday July 22 that all the electoral machines that will be used in the elections on Sunday, July 28 have been distributed. With this, the president of the CNE, Elvis Amoroso assured that the machines that will be used in Sunday’s elections have been reviewed by representatives of the political organizations. “Witnesses from political organizations were present at the event to verify the operation of each of the telecommunications devices involved in the process of transmitting results and ensuring the network used by the CNE,” said Amoroso, at a press conference.

The first vice president of the United Socialist Party (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, has confirmed and condemned a new destabilizing plan of post-electoral violence led by the far-right Venezuelan opposition and the White House, scheduled to gave been in operation from July 28 to July 31. The political leader warned during his television program Con el Mazo Dando this Wednesday, May 29, that the far-right opposition and their backing in US imperialism intend to lead the Latin American nation into a civil war. The head of the ruling party bench in the Venezuelan National Assembly used a pamphlet circulating in Caracas and Miami as an example of proof of this revelation, through which far-right groups drafted a method to generate violence.

DEA meddling schemes have targeted Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro, Bolivia’s former President Evo Morales, and Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. In these scandals, the DEA has collaborated with known criminals, including drug traffickers and money launderers, to launch sting operations against leftist politicians. The Associated Press revealed this February that the DEA “sent undercover operatives into Venezuela to surreptitiously record and build drug-trafficking cases against the country’s leadership”.

As the president of the republic, I must warn the world of the mafia that has taken over the Attorney General’s Office, and I must ask the people for maximum mobilization,” the Colombian president wrote on social media.

The war in Bosnia – encouraged, financed, armed, and prolonged at every step by the U.S. – tore apart a previously harmonious, inclusive and prosperous republic of Socialist Yugoslavia. In all, 100,000 died, with many more injured.
