Pentagon Confirms US Troops To Operate THAAD Missile Defense In Israel

The US military will send a missile defense battery and troops to operate it in Israel, the Pentagon said on 13 October, amid warnings from Iran that Washington should keep all US military forces out of Israel. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin authorized the deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery at the direction of President Joe Biden, the Pentagon said in a statement. The US is seeking to help bolster Israel’s air defenses following a large-scale Iranian ballistic missile attack on Israeli airbases on 1 October. Tehran launched the ballistic missile barrage in retaliation for multiple aggressions carried out by Tel Aviv, including the assassinations of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in July and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on 27 September.

Blockade Against Use Of Ireland’s Shannon Airport By US Military

Two people were arrested at a protest in Co Clare against the use of Shannon Airport by the US military. Both people were arrested in relation to public order incidents at the airport this afternoon. There was a large garda presence ahead of today’s event with local members from the amalgamated Clare and Tipperary divisions backed up by Garda Public Order Unit officers from Clare, Limerick, Tipperary and Cork. From early this morning, one lane of the N19 main road into Shannon Airport was closed while gardaí checked vehicles including buses before they were allowed continue to the airport. Only intending passengers, airport and industrial estate workers or those with business in the airport were allowed continue past the checkpoints.

US Bolsters Forces In Middle East, Issues Warning To Iran

The Pentagon on Sunday announced steps to bolster its forces in the Middle East amid Israel’s non-stop bombardment of Lebanon. Pentagon spokesman Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said the US will reinforce its “air-support capabilities” in the coming days and said Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin “increased the readiness of additional US forces to deploy, elevating our preparedness to respond to various contingencies.” Ryder said Austin also ordered the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and its strike group to stay in the region. The USS Wasp Amphibious Ready Group / Marine Expeditionary Unit will also continue to operate in the Eastern Mediterranean.

US Occupation Base Hit By ‘Intense’ Rocket, Drone Strikes In Syria

US forces at Washington’s occupation base in the Conoco oil field near eastern Syria’s Deir Ezzor governorate came under heavy attack during the early hours of 29 September. “Intense rocket and drone bombardment targeted the headquarters of the US occupation's armored forces stationed at the Conoco gas field base in Deir Ezzor,” Al Mayadeen's correspondent cited field sources as saying. “The intense shelling on Conoco resulted in direct hits on the headquarters of the armored division,” according to one of the sources. Sputnik’s correspondent reported the attack left casualties among the occupation troops. Local sources said the strikes were launched in response to a series of US airstrikes on Deir Ezzor’s Harabeesh neighborhood.

The shutdown followed a brief period during which Baghdad had allowed merchants to trade in Yuan, an initiative intended to mitigate excessive US restrictions on Iraq’s access to US dollars. While this Yuan-based trade excluded Iraq’s oil exports, which remained in US dollars, Washington viewed it as a threat to its financial dominance over the Persian Gulf state. But how has the US managed to exert such total control over Iraqi financial policies? The answer lies in 2003, with mechanisms established following the illegal US-led invasion of Iraq.

US Navy Chief Unveils Plan To Be Ready For War With China By 2027

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti, the highest ranking officer in the US Navy, unveiled a plan on Wednesday to be ready for a war with China by 2027 as the US military is preparing for a direct fight with Beijing despite the risk of nuclear war. The plan lays out goals to be reached by 2027, including making 80% of the naval force ready for combat deployments on short notice. Franchetti told The Associated Press she wants to increase combat readiness so “if the nation calls us, we can push the ‘go’ button, and we can surge our forces to be able to meet the call.” Other goals include increasing recruitment, improving Navy infrastructure, removing delays in ship maintenance, and increasing the use of drones and other autonomous systems.

US, Iraq Settle On ‘Late 2026’ Deadline For Full Troop Withdrawal

The governments of Iraq and the US have agreed on a timetable for the withdrawal of US and “international coalition” troops from the war-ravaged country, according to informed sources who spoke with Reuters. “The plan, which has been broadly agreed but requires a final go-ahead from both capitals and an announcement date, would see hundreds of troops leave by September 2025, with the remainder departing by the end of 2026,” the British news outlet reports. The plan would see all troops from the US-led coalition leave Iraq's Ain al-Asad airbase in western Anbar province and “significantly reduce their presence in Baghdad by September 2025.”

The Turkish Communist Party (TKP) alongside other Turkish political groups and masses took to the streets on Tuesday, September 3, near İzmir port to protest the anchoring of the United States’ Navy multi-purpose amphibious assault ship, USS Wasp (LHD-1) at the port. The arrival of the US Navy ship at İzmir Port followed a joint training exercise that took place in the Mediterranean sea between August 13-17 with Türkiye’s first amphibious warship TCG Anadolu. The exercise has been considered an indicator of military cooperation between Türkiye and the United States, which provoked the outrage of Turkish political groups and activists.

Israeli and U.S. military resisters held a zoom news conference Aug. 15 to publicize a call to active duty U.S. service members to declare their opposition to the Israeli massacres in Gaza – and U.S. complicity with what many people consider genocide. In Israel, there is an establishment-manufactured consensus supporting the criminal war and a massive group of fascist settlers. The individual Israeli “refuseniks” who participated in the news conference were those who had earlier declared themselves Conscientious Objectors to participating in the ongoing military occupation of Palestinian lands. They refuse participation in the current genocide and encouraged U.S. service members to also take this position.

Well, I told you so. Mother Nature with her not-so-big wind and waves tore apart the multimillion-dollar temporary pier that took the U.S. military two months to be transported from a U.S. Army base on the U.S. east coast and another two months to construct like legos. Mother Nature had to intervene not once, not twice, but three times before the U.S. government finally got the message. The pier idea was reportedly sprung on the U.S. military in President Biden’s January State of the Union address. The risk assessment for success was probably never started, much less completed, or if it was completed, it was probably hidden in a desk drawer as the predictions would not have matched the political demand of “Do somethingto help get us out of this mess.”

‘Dive Bomber’ Drones Strike US Base In Western Iraq

US forces stationed at the Ain al-Assad airbase in western Iraq were attacked with dive bomber drones on 17 July, Al Mayadeen reported. “The attack targeted a commercial center and a gas station inside the American base … the explosions heard were the result of attacks by the incoming drones,” sources told the news outlet. The drone attack comes two days after a source in the Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI) told Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar that the armed coalition was considering renewing their operations against US bases in Iraq and Syria. “The [Iraqi] government’s positions are contradictory regarding the termination of the international coalition and US forces’ missions in the country.

South by Southwest (SXSW) is an annual conglomeration of parallel film, interactive media, and music festivals and conferences organized jointly that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas. It has been growing in size since 1987. The festivals just dumped weapons makers and the U.S. Army out the door: “After careful consideration, we are revising our sponsorship model. As a result, the US Army, and companies who engage in weapons manufacturing, will not be sponsors of SXSW 2025.” This wonderful development is not just something going right (such an unusual sight, in the words of Paul Simon), and not just somebody doing something right in Texas (I’m certain that it happens all the time, in the words of Lennon/McCartney).

Active-Duty US Service Members Appeal To Congress: Stop Funding Genocide

On June 4, a coalition of active-duty service members, veterans and G.I. rights groups launched a campaign called Appeal for Redress V2 to encourage military personnel to tell Congress to stop funding genocide in Gaza. Israel’s genocidal operation, now in its ninth month, has killed more than 37,000 Palestinians and wounded nearly 85,000. The campaign is sponsored by Veterans For Peace (VFP), the Military Law Task Force of the National Lawyers Guild, About Face: Veterans Against the War and the Center on Conscience & War. It is modeled after the 2006 Appeal for Redress issued during the occupation of Iraq.
