US airstrikes Sunday targeted locations in Anbar, Iraq, as well as four other locations in Iraq and Syria. The attacks targeted a Katai’b Hezbollah military site, killing 27 and injuring 51. The Iraqi Kata’ib Hezbollah, a paramilitary group part of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (PMU) umbrella group, was one of the popular grassroots militias that played a major role in fighting ISIS in Iraq after the PMU’s formation in 2014. According to the US, the strikes were in response to attacks near US military bases over the past couple months.

"The action was done in solidarity with the people of Yemen as they are murdered by Saudi Arabia using weapons supplied by Boeing and other weapons manufacturers," the activists said in a statement posted to the Facebook page of the Earth Defense Coalition. SADAA, YEMEN — Tens of thousands of Yemenis took to the streets of Sadaa, northern Yemen, to hold a funeral procession for the children who were killed on August 10 by U.S.-backed Saudi airstrikes in Dhahian city next to a crowded market. The deadly attack came while they were on a picnic to Dhahian’s outskirts after graduating from summer school. The mourners, who came from across the country, walked in a long convoy next to vehicles that carried the bodies of more than 30 children, as participants carried pictures of the attack and chanted slogans against Saudi Arabia and the United States. “America Kills Yemeni Children,” read several banners. A source in Yemen’s Health Ministry, based in Sana`a, said in a statement that 51 people were killed in the raids, including 40 children.

On August 9, a U.S.-supported Saudi airstrike bombed a bus carrying schoolchildren in Sa’ada, a city in northern Yemen. The New York Times reported that the students were on a recreational trip. According to the Sa’ada health department, the attack killed at least forty-three people. According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, at least twenty-nine of those killed were children under the age of fifteen, and forty-eight people were wounded, including thirty children. CNN aired horrifying, heartbreaking footage of children who survived the attack being treated in an emergency room. One of the children, carrying his UNICEF issued blue backpack, is covered with blood and badly burned. Commenting on the tragedy, CNN’s senior correspondent Nima Elbagir emphasized that she had seen unaired video which was even worse than what the CNN segment showed.

Dozens of children took to the streets of Yemen’s capital Sanaa to protest the deadly Saudi-led bombing campaign in the country. They carried pictures of the kids slain in an airstrike that hit a school bus earlier this week. The young protesters of various ages chanted anti-Saudi slogans and carried banners in both Arabic and English. “Who allowed you to shed the blood of the children of Yemen?” one of the signs, addressed to Riyadh, read. Some of the children held the postmortem photos of the schoolkids, who died in a Saudi-led airstrike that hit a packed school bus in the town of Dahyan in the northern Saada Province on Thursday. 51 people, including 40 children between 10 and 13 years of age, were killed and 79 others injured in the attack, according to Taha al-Mutawakil, the health minister for the Houthi authorities in Yemen.

In the wake of last weekend’s US-British-French missile strikes on Syria, a campaign is growing in the American political and military/intelligence establishment for a wider war that would threaten a nuclear conflict with Russia. On Tuesday, Democratic and Republican lawmakers attacked the Trump administration for the “limited” nature of the attack and demanded that the White House commit to a more extensive military operation to overthrow the Assad government and confront Iran and Russia. After a private briefing to the Senate by Defence Secretary James Mattis and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham told reporters that the administration had no strategy and appeared willing “to give Syria to Assad, Russia, and Iran.” He said, “I think Assad, after this strike, believes we’re all tweet and no action.”

A survey by FAIR of the top 100 papers in the US by circulation found not a single editorial board opposed to Trump’s April 13 airstrikes on Syria. Twenty supported the strikes, while six were ambiguous as to whether or not the bombing was advisable. The remaining 74 issued no opinion about Trump’s latest escalation of the Syrian war. This is fairly consistent with editorial support for Trump’s April 2017 airstrikes against the Syrian government, which saw only one editorial out of 47 oppose the bombing (FAIR.org, 4/11/17). The single paper of dissent from last year, the Houston Chronicle, didn’t publish an editorial on last week’s bombing. Seven of the top 10 newspapers by circulation—USA Today,Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, New York Post,Chicago Tribune, Newsday and Washington Post—supported the airstrikes.

Despite scant evidence as to the use of chemical weapons or the party responsible for it, Donald Trump ordered another cruise missiles strike in Syria on Saturday in collaboration with Theresa May’s government in the UK and Emmanuel Macron’s administration in France. The strike took place a little over a year after a similar cruise missiles strikes on al-Shayrat airfield on April 6 last year, after an alleged chemical weapons attack in Khan Sheikhoun, that accomplished nothing. Both these strikes in Syria were not only illegal under international law but also under American laws.

Over the last month Russia has several times warned that such fake gas attacks were being planned by the so-called 'rebels'. It also warned the U.S. that any strike it might take in 'retaliation' of such a fake attack would endanger Russian troops and installations in Syria. The Russian said they will respond to any severe U.S. attack with a strike against U.S. missile launching platform - be they jets or ships. Israel immediately tried to further escalate the situation. Last night it hit the T4 airport in Homs with 8 cruise missiles launched from Israeli planes flying over Lebanon. The T4 airport is in the middle of Syria. Some Iranian drones are stationed there next to Syrian planes and helicopters to help in the fight against ISIS in east Syria. The damage was relatively light, but the Israeli strike requires a response.
