Hundreds Of Police Smother Palestine Solidarity Protests Outside DNC

Israel’s assault on Gaza and the resulting humanitarian crisis is not getting much airtime on the main stage of the Democratic National Convention (DNC). Inside the convention hall, Democratic leaders act as if the death toll of 40,000 Palestinians is an uncomfortable fact to avoid during a celebration of party unity. But outside the convention, where protesters gather alongside the long columns of police guarding a massive security perimeter, Palestinian liberation is center stage — at least until riot cops intervene. With only a few fleeting references to Gaza in speeches at the convention, some Democratic leaders have attempted to placate the thousands of protesters outside by declaring support for a ceasefire deal that remains elusive after months of negotiation.

‘Operation al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 321: Ceasefire Negotiations To Continue

ِAn Israeli negotiating team will head to Egypt in the coming days in order to resume the latest round of ceasefire talks that started last week, Israeli media sources reported on Thursday. The team will hold talks with Egyptian and Qatari mediators and with U.S. officials over the status of the Philadelphi corridor and the Rafah land crossing. U.S. Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield addressed the UN Security Council on Thursday, stating that a ceasefire deal was “in sight,” despite evidence that Netanyahu is once again aiming to sabotage the talks by insisting on holding onto the Philadelphi and Netzarim corridors, hence continuing to occupy Gaza and maintain an indefinite military presence in the coastal enclave.

Democrats Propose No Change On Unflinching Support For Israel

Following the first day of the Democratic National Convention, which runs from August 19 to 22 in Chicago, delegates voted to approved the 2024 Democratic Party platform. Notably, the platform still reads: “President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats are running to finish the job.” While there are still no concrete policies outlined in the Harris-Walz official campaign website, the 2024 Democratic Party platform can be seen as the first glimpse into what this administration promises to offer to the people of the US. Many were waiting to see if the platform would indicate any changes to the Democratic Party’s unconditional support for Israel, given the mass movement for Palestine ongoing in the US since October 7.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 318: Gazans Given New Evacuation Orders

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in the Middle East on Sunday for the ninth time since last October in an attempt to advance the talks for a ceasefire deal in Gaza. Blinken is holding a series of meetings with Israeli officials, including Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Netanyahu. On Sunday, Blinken told the media that the current talks are the last chance to achieve a ceasefire and free Israeli captives. Blinken also said that the talks are currently in a critical phase, calling on Hamas and Israel to refrain from taking steps that could sabotage them. Meanwhile, Israeli public broadcasting quoted an Israeli official saying that the remaining issues to settle in the ceasefire talks include the maintenance of Israeli forces in the Philadelphi corridor along Gaza’s border with Egypt and that differences between Hamas and Israel on this issue can be settled.

Thou Shalt Not Commit Genocide

There is only one way to end the ongoing genocide in Gaza. It is not through bilateral negotiations. Israel has amply demonstrated, including with the assassination of the lead Hamas negotiator, Ismail Haniyeh, that it has no interest in a permanent ceasefire. The only way for Israel’s genocide of the Palestinians to be halted is for the U.S. to end all weapons shipments to Israel. And the only way this will take place is if enough Americans make clear they have no intention of supporting any presidential ticket or any political party that fuels this genocide. The arguments against a boycott of the two ruling parties are familiar: It will ensure the election of Donald Trump. Kamala Harris has rhetorically shown more compassion than Joe Biden.

Palestine: No Breakthrough In Doha Talks

The Doha negotiations did not yield any developments as “Israel” is clinging to its positions, a senior Palestinian Resistance official told Al Mayadeen. Moreover, a senior Hamas source pointed out that what the movement’s leadership was informed of Friday regarding the results of the Doha ceasefire meetings does not include a commitment to what was agreed upon on July 2. This follows a statement that senior officials from the governments of the United States, Qatar, and Egypt will reconvene in Cairo before the end of next week with an aim to conclude a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and a prisoner exchange deal between Hamas and “Israel”.

Gaza Ceasefire Talks Resume In Doha Amid Flagrant Israeli Atrocities

Gaza ceasefire talks resumed on Thursday, August 15, in the Qatari capital of Doha with the notable absence of one of the negotiating parties, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas). Over the past several months, the talks have involved three main mediators including the United States, Egypt, and Qatar in addition to warring parties Israel and Hamas, and have passed through different stages of obstructions and stalemate recriminations. Hamas had already announced on Sunday, August 11 that it rejected an invitation to attend the new round of negotiations because it wants a return to the Biden-backed ceasefire proposal and the amendments it submitted to that plan on July 2.

Maya Ixil Elders Prepare To Give Their Testimony In Genocide Case

Guatemala City, Guatemala - On Monday August 12, 2024, the defense lawyers of ex-general Manuel Benedícto Lucas García, accused of genocide, forced disappearance and crimes against humanity of the Maya Ixil people, made a frivolous and malicious attempt to dismiss the case surrounding the genocide of the Maya Ixil people in Guatemala.  The case against ex-general Lucas García has been in progress for four months since it began on April 5, 2024 at the First Court of Criminal Sentencing, Narco Activity and Crimes against the Environment, for High Risk Processes, Group "A", Guatemala City, Guatemala.

United Nations Delegations Are Listening To Us On Gaza

World BEYOND War President Kathy Kelly has been fasting, demonstrating, and meeting at the United Nations with the delegations of various nations. Activists have held two vigils each day and met with the Missions of South Korea, Brazil, Venezuela, Greece, Ireland, Spain, Malta, the Holy See, Iran, Denmark, Russia, Mexico, and Slovenia. You can add your own words, but it reads: “I urge your country to move to convene an emergency session of the UN General Assembly and use Uniting For Peace (Resolution 377) to impose an arms embargo and targeted sanctions on the Israeli government, suspend the Israeli government from the United Nations, and send unarmed peacekeepers to Palestine.”

Why Are We Doing Informational Picketing At This Gas Station?

People are organizing to stop shipments of petroleum products to the Israel military in order to end the genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank, as shown in this poster. Oil Change International reports that BP, Chevron, ExxonMobil and Shell are profiting from the transfer of crude oil and oil products to Israel where the crude is refined into jet fuel, diesel and gasoline for tanks and other military vehicles. Valero ships jet fuel to Israel directly from the U.S., according to the American Friends Service Committee. “…oil firms must ensure they’re not in the business of helping to entrench Israel’s apartheid system or fueling war crimes…” – Peter Frankental, Amnesty International.

The ICJ Finds That BDS Is Not Merely A Right, But An Obligation

Israel and its lobby have, for years now, been engaged in a frenzy of activity to further insulate Israel from accountability by using their influence in the West to effectively outlaw organized opposition to Israel. Foremost among these efforts has been the Israeli campaign to penalize calls to boycott, divest from, and sanction Israel for its gross violations of human rights. As a result, countless laws and policies are now on the books across the U.S. and the broader West, trampling on core constitutional principles and internationally guaranteed human rights in defense of Israeli impunity. But an advisory opinion issued last month by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) should help to turn that around.

State Department Approves Over $20 Billion Arms Package For Israel

On Tuesday, the State Department approved a series of potential weapons sales to Israel worth over $20 billion that includes F-15 fighter jets and tank munitions. The approval comes as Israeli airstrikes continue to slaughter civilians in Gaza, including newborn twins who were killed hours before the State Department announced the new support for Israel. In total, the US announced five new arms deals for Israel. The biggest is for 50 F-15 fighter jets and related equipment, worth $18.8 billion. Israel will also receive $102.5 million in advanced air-to-air missiles, about 33,000 120mm tank cartridges worth $774 million, 50,000 high-explosive 120mm mortar rounds worth $61.1 million, and $583.1 million worth of medium tactical vehicles.

The June Jordan-Audre Lorde Dispute, Kamala Harris, And Palestine

At a rally in Detroit Michigan on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, Kamala Harris chided pro-Palestine protesters. As they chanted “Kamala, Kamala You can’t Hide! We Won’t Vote for Genocide!” the self-proclaimed “top cop” shot back, “You know what? If you want Donald Trump to win, then say that. Otherwise, I’m speaking.” This open contempt displayed by the presumptive presidential nominee for the Democratic Party came exactly two weeks after she met with Benjamin Netanyahu and reiterated the United States’ unwavering commitment to the right of the colonial entity (“Israel”) to exist, and by extension, to continue its war-intensified genocide of Palestinians.

Gaza’s Ceasefire And Prisoner Deal Hangs In The Balance

Israeli media outlets leaked statements of Israel’s Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant regardin the stalemate of captives-for-prisoners swap talks during a private briefing for a parliamentary committee on Monday, August 12. In his statements, Gallant blamed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for obstructing the prisoner swap deal talks saying: “The reason a hostage deal is stalling is in part because of Israel.” Gallant also described Netanyahu’s promises of “absolute victory” in the ongoing aggression on the Gaza strip and his idea of destroying the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) as “gibberish”.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 307: At Least 56 Palestinians Killed In Gaza

At least 15 Palestinians were killed earlier on Thursday, August 8, 2024, in two new massacres by Israeli forces in Gaza, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported. According to reports, Israeli aircraft conducted separate strikes on the Abdel Fatah Hamoud and the al-Zahraa schools in eastern Gaza City. Both schools sheltered Palestinian families displaced by previous bombings. The Palestinian Red Crescent said that 15 killed Palestinians and dozens of wounded were transferred to the Baptist Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza City. The Palestinian Civil Defense also reported that three Palestinians were killed in a strike on the Zeitoun neighborhood in the city.
