Inter-Imperialist Rivalry

US Congressional Panel Outlines Next Phase Of Dirty War On Syria: Occupy Oil Fields And Block Reconstruction

Despite President Donald Trump’s order of a partial withdrawal of troops from Syria, the United States’ regime-change war against the country continues in broad daylight. At a US government-funded think tank at the forefront of shaping Washington’s interventionist designs, an American official succinctly laid out the continued-regime change strategy. Dana Stroul, a longtime US diplomat who oversaw a congressionally mandated study of Syria...

Released Lula In For Greatest Fight Of His Life

He’s back. With a bang. Only two days after his release from a federal prison in Curitiba, southern Brazil, following a narrow 6×5 decision by the Supreme Court, former President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva delivered a fiery, 45-minute long speech in front of the Metal Workers Union in Sao Bernardo, outside of Sao Paulo, and drawing on his unparalleled political capital, called all Brazilians to stage nothing short of a social revolution.

US And Israel Were Lone Votes Against UN Resolutions Opposing Space Arms Race, Nuclear Middle East, Cuba Embargo

Important breakthroughs have arrived at the United Nations seeking to prevent an arms race in outer space and create a nuclear weapons-free Middle East. There are just two main obstacles: the United States and Israel. While Washington and corporate media outlets portray China and Russia as aggressive warmongering rogue states, their votes at the UN show which nations are actually expanding dangerous militarism into new frontiers. China and Russia joined dozens of other countries in sponsoring resolutions at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) that sought to prevent armed conflict in space.

Crimea Stands Up For Its Legal Rights And Against US Domination

The Fifth Anniversary International Conference: "Crimea in the Current International Context" began on November 7 inside the Livadia Palace, Yalta, Crimea.  In these same rooms Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin met in 1945 to discuss the post-WW II architecture. More than 30 nations were represented (officially or unofficially) - I was able to catch this list: Austria, Cyprus, Poland, Norway, Germany, Japan, India, USA, Czech Republic, China, Greece, Israel, Belarus, Belgium, Tunisia, Palestine, Slovakia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Italy, Turkey, Armenia, and Abkhazia.

Everything You Were Told About The Syrian War Was Wrong – Until Now

That wars end very differently to our own expectations – or our plans – was established long ago. That “we” won the Second World War did not mean the Americans would win the Vietnam war, or that France would vanquish its enemies in Algeria. Yet the moment we decide who the good guys are, and who the evil monsters whom we must destroy, we relapse again into our old mistakes. Because we hate, loathe and demonise Saddam or Gaddafi or Assad, we are sure – we are absolutely convinced – that they will be dethroned and that the blue skies of freedom will shine down upon their broken lands.

UNAC Statement On The Situation In Syria: U.S. Out!

The United National Antiwar Coalition (UNAC) stands in solidarity with the long-suffering people of Syria.  We oppose all foreign occupation of Syrian territory.  Syria belongs to the Syrians. The current Turkish incursion into northern Syria is in violation of Syrian sovereignty. So is the continued U.S. intervention. Turkey has been an ally of the U.S. in its regime change program in Syria.  Both countries are in Syria against the wishes of the Syria government and have caused great destruction in the region.

The World Is Rising Up Against Austerity And The Rule Of The Rich, When Will We?

The pessimism spread by the so-called “Resistance” to Donald Trump serves one purpose and one purpose only: to desensitize the masses of people in the U.S. to the misery of endless austerity and war. Donald Trump and Russia have served as scapegoats for the political crisis plaguing Washington. Hillary Clinton and her section of the neoliberal oligarchy have opposed Trump on the basis that he is a traitor to the doctrine of American exceptionalism and empire.

Haitian Opposition Calls For More Protests Against President

Haiti reached this Monday its eighth week of mass protests against president Jovenel Moise and his administration; with the country’s economic and political activities totally paralyzed since mid-September in response to fuel shortages and government corruption amidst long-term poverty. Haitian people are demanding the immediate resignation of the president while the main opposition organization vowed to pursue the struggle till Jovenel’s departure is achieved.

Nearly Unanimous: 187 Nations Call For The End To US Blockade Of Cuba

New York - For the 28th time the UN member states call to lift the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States. To Cuba. With 187 votes in favor, the United Nations Organization (UN) approved the resolution on the need to lift the financial, economic and commercial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, which constitutes a violation of human rights and international regulations. The results of the vote held on Thursday demonstrate the "unquestionable isolation of the US," said Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez. The resolution against the blockade against Cuba received only three votes against (USA, Israel and Brazil) and two abstentions (Colombia and Ukraine).

The Blatant Illegality Of US Interventions In Syria

The US is increasing its military presence in Syria.  In, “Trump OKs wider Syria oil mission, raising legal questions” the AP reports: "President Donald Trump has approved an expanded military mission to secure an expanse of oil fields across eastern Syria, raising a number of difficult legal questions about whether U.S. troops can launch strikes against Syrian, Russian or other forces if they threaten the oil, U.S. officials said. "The decision, coming after a meeting Friday between Trump and his defense leaders, locks hundreds of U.S. troops into a more complicated presence in Syria, despite the president's vow to get America out of the war.

The New Middle East That’s Coming

The fallout from the September attack on Saudi Arabia’s Aramco oil facilities is continuing to reverberate throughout the Middle East, sidelining old enmities — sometimes for new ones — and re-drawing traditional alliances. While Turkey’s recent invasion of northern Syria is grabbing the headlines, the bigger story may be that major regional players are contemplating some historic re-alignments. After years of bitter rivalry, the Saudis and the Iranians are considering how they can dial down their mutual animosity.

Bolivia: Audios Linking Civic, Ex-Military And US In Coup Plans

The Radio Education Network of Bolivia (Erbol) leaked 16 audios involving opposition leaders who are calling for a coup d'etat against the government of President Evo Morales, a political action which would have been coordinated from the U.S. embassy in the Andean country . Among those mentioned in the audios are the U.S. senators Marco Rubio, Bob Menendez and Ted Cruz, who have would maintained contact with the Bolivian opposition in order to achieve a possible regime change in the South American country.

Winter Is Coming: Castle Black, The Syrian Withdrawal, And The Battle Of The Base

Grimly enough, 15 years later, as TomDispatch managing editor Nick Turse makes clear today, not a word of what Johnson wrote isn’t applicable to this moment as well. The United States remains, in the phrase of another TomDispatch author, David Vine, a base nation. Millions of Americans have been to or served at one or more of those garrisons scattered in an historically unprecedented way across, as Johnson said, every continent but Antarctica. In recent years, in every size and shape those bases have...

China Breaks The Western Debt Stranglehold On The World

The west has colonized, exploited, ravaged and assassinated the people of the Global South for hundreds of years. Up to the mid-20th Century Europe has occupied Africa, and large parts of Asia. In Latin America, though much of the sub-Continent was “freed” from Spain and Portugal in the 19th Century – a new kind of colonization followed by the new Empire of the United States – under the so-called Monroe Doctrine, named after President James Monroe (1817 -1825), forbidding Europeans to interfere in any “American territory”. Latin America was then and is again today considered Washington’s Backyard.

By Protecting Syria’s Idlib, The US Created A Safe Haven For Baghdadi And ISIS

October has been a tough month for the motley crew of self-styled Syria experts and regime-change diehards who spent years cheering on the so-called “moderate rebels.” First, the “Free Syrian Army” fighters they had long championed were finally and undeniably exposed as the brutal extremists they always were. All it took for the curtain to be pulled back was for President Trump to green-light a Turkish invasion of Syria, and those once-“moderate” CIA-trained contras that had long terrorized civilians in Syrian government territory were revealed to be Turkish-backed mercenaries...
