Venezuelan Businessman Arrested And Tortured At US Direction

The businessman Álex Saab has said through a letter that he is being tortured daily by agents paid by the United States to make false statements against the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, and to sign his “voluntary” extradition to the North American country. The Spanish newspaper El Mundo reported this Wednesday, September 2, that he had “exclusive” access to a letter written by Saab from the cell where he is being held irregularly on the African island of Cape Verde, a country that detained him at the request of the United States without respecting his diplomatic immunity and legal international procedures. “The United States has four employees who enter my cell every night and beat me to make false statements against Maduro (…) I have been tortured to testify against Nicolás Maduro and sign my voluntary extradition to the United States,” says part of the extracts of the letter reviewed by the Spanish media.

The Stage Is Set for A Venezuela October Surprise

The hybrid war against Venezuela is intensifying as the U.S. presidential campaign is heating up. The Trump administration and its Venezuelan and international allies have set the stage for an October surprise, a possible attack by the United States or one of its proxies designed to boost President Trump’s reelection. The attacks on Venezuela are coming from multiple dimensions, including overt military pressure, economic pressure, covert operations, and disinformation campaigns. All of these are elements of a hybrid war that has sought to overthrow the government of President Nicolás Maduro over the past years, and each element has seen new developments over the past few weeks, just as Venezuela is battling a surge in COVID-19 cases.

Let’s Tell Lies…

In the Spanish-speaking world, there is a very peculiar children’s song: “Let’s Tell Lies”. Through the hilarious repetition of verses and a catchy melody, there is a succession of absurd situations that delight children. Comedy is an exercise where reality is alienated so that laughter is achieved. The song made us remember what took place in recent days in the United States Senate, during a hearing with the ineffable Elliott Abrams -who despite greatly resembling a known villain of a children’s program who unsuccessfully chases blue pixies, continues to be Donald Trump’s macabre political operator. That country’s Senate asked Abrams for explanations and answers for the inefficiency of this erratic strategy to achieve a change of government in Venezuela. The performance they carried out in the Senate goes beyond the limits of comedy in order to play the role of a tragedy of enormous dimensions. It is a two-fold tragedy.

US Government Seizes Websites Allegedly Involved In Iran-Venezuela Oil Deal

The US government announced today that it had seized three websites used by Iran to facilitate oil deals with Venezuela. The decision follows the US interception of Iranian oil tankers bound for Venezuela and increased pressure from Washington on both countries. The Department of Justice assumed control of the websites for Mobin International, Sohar Fuel and Oman Fuel, which the department called front companies. The companies allegedly facilitated a fuel shipment by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to Venezuela, according to a department press release.

Extreme Right In Venezuela Seeks To Sabotage The Election

In a little more than three months, on December 6, parliamentary elections will be held in Venezuela. The most extreme wing of the Venezuelan opposition, which forms the so-called G4 (that includes the parties Voluntad Popular of Leopoldo López, Primero Justicia of Henrique Capriles, Acción Democrática and Un Nuevo Tiempo) plans, with U.S. support, to boycott the electoral process and renew the mobilization in the streets. Colombian sources with access to U.S. government functionaries and to leaders of the Venezuelan opposition became aware of a recent video conference meeting including members of the U.S. foreign affairs office ”virtual embassy” for Venezuela in Bogota.

Venezuela: Aggression In October?

A US-sponsored military aggression against Venezuela could take place before the November 3 elections in that country. On August 22, Admiral Remigio Ceballos, chief of the strategic operational command of the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB), said that “The international intelligence agencies allied to Venezuela inform us that Colombia is preparing an aggression, and the FANB will respond with force and forcefulness to any aggression against the sovereignty and independence of Venezuela, under the command of our Commander in Chief Nicolas Maduro Moros”. Coinciding with this, they met in Bogotá with President Iván Duque, Faller together with Robert O’Brien, national security advisor to the White House, his deputy for Latin America, the Cuban-American Mauricio Claver-Carone, archenemy of Cuba and Venezuela and Trump’s candidate for president of the Inter-American Development Bank, and US ambassador to Colombia, Phillip Goldberg. The Colombian bowed down and announced that it would review “issues of security, the fight against drug trafficking, ‘the situation in Venezuela’ and the immigration of citizens from that country to Colombia.

These Six Banks Have Frozen $4.6 Billion Belonging To Venezuelans

The looting, theft and hijacking of resources from Venezuela has been of great magnitude, six banks withhold under the excuse of US sanctions, around 4.6 billion dollars much needed by and belonging to the Venezuelans, currently facing a spike in Covid-19 cases. The website La Tabla cited the data published by the Venezuelan NGO dedicated to the study, promotion, education and defense of human rights, “Organización Sures“, which explained that this Venezuelan money is in the following banks: Novo Banco: $ 1,547,322,175.89, Bank of England: $ 1,323,228,162.57, Clearstream: $ 517,088,580.00, Citibank: $ 458,415,178,49, Sumitomo: $ 507,506,853,37, and Union Bank: $ 230,024,462.00

The Banal Evil Of US Imperialism: A View From Inside The CIA

As the US Empire falls, the US government continues its regime change attempts around the world in an effort to hang onto power. We see the same tactics applied over and over again. We speak with John Kiriakou, a former CIA analyst and case officer, about what regime change looks like from inside the CIA, which he describes as similar to the Bansky painting, "The Banality of the Banality of Evil." He reveals the tension between those who ignore the illegality of what the US is doing and those who believe in the rule of law, how the process of deciding to intervene in a country works, and then how it is carried out. He provides specific examples from his own experience, plus his thoughts on what is happening in Belarus and Hong Kong, and the current state of US politics.

UN Ambassador Moncada: US Keeps Plotting To Invade Venezuela

The Venezuelan ambassador to the United Nations, Samuel Moncada, reiterated his denunciation of the United States’ orchestrating an invasion in Venezuela to destroy the military and political forces of the Bolivarian Revolution. On his Twitter account, the Ambassador indicated that the White House’s war propaganda against Venezuela seeks to assassinate the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro and turn the country into a colony. “War propaganda in the US affirms that its objective is democracy in Venezuela. The truth is more sinister and deadly: eliminating President Maduro continues the invasion to destroy Venezuelan police and military patriots. Venezuela will be turned into a colony,” Moncada tweeted. Moncada, stressed that the aggressors in Venezuela are the same ones that destroyed Iraq, Libya, Syria, Panama, Nicaragua, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic. “They are the ones who want war with Iran before the US elections. Let it be very clear: our fight is for national independence or nothing!”

SouthCom Feels Threatened By Russia’s ‘Fundamental’ Support Of Venezuela

The head of the Southern Command of the United States Armed Forces, Craig Faller, declared that Russia and Cuba represents a threat to them due to the “fundamental” support they give to Venezuela, a country on which the Donald Trump regime has imposed a brutal total blockade and continually threatens military invasion. In viralized statements on social networks, Faller says that they have had to set off the alarms because of “the size of the threat” represented by “Russian influence” and the support that the Eurasian country gives to the government presided over by Nicolás Maduro. “I cannot describe the size of the threat. Russian influence is essential to sustain Nicolás Maduro in power, I look with alarm at what Russia is doing in Venezuela in terms of personnel,” said Faller.

What Is Next for Washington After Its Failed Venezuela Strategy?

The decision to cease calling Guaidó “president” would be a tacit recognition that Washington had blundered in turning over billions of dollars in Venezuelan assets, including CITGO, to Guaidó’s parallel government. This is no small failure. The activist role of the Trump administration in trying to get other countries, organizations and corporations including Russia, China, Cuba and, believe it or not, Iran to comply with the sanctions against Venezuela has few parallels in history. Washington’s case for sanctions is underpinned by the argument that Guaidó and not Maduro is the rightful president of Venezuela. A distancing from Guaidó would detract from this campaign and undermine U.S. prestige, at least in the short run. The United States is increasingly finding itself isolated on the world stage, as made evident in last Friday’s humiliating defeat at the UN Security Council where the U.S. counted only on the vote of the Dominican Republic for its proposed renewal of the boycott on arms sales to Iran. Although it is highly unlikely that a President Biden will do a complete turnaround on Venezuelan policy, a more hands-off approach would go a long way in easing tensions in that nation and achieving for Washington a degree of respect around the world.

Trump’s Venezuela Regime Change Alliance Dwindles To 19 Nations

The US State Department statement is notable because of the dwindling number of allied countries that are now “committed to the restoration of democracy in Venezuela.” What used to be a long list of more than 50 nations is now down to just 19. This is a far cry from the formerly extensive coalition of dozens of states that have heretofore unequivocally recognized and supported Guaidó. Thus, the list of partner states now includes Israel, along with some of the most servile allies of the US (and notable violators of human rights and democracy) such as Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, and Haiti. Guaidó’s standing in Venezuela is currently at rock bottom, the self-declared interim leader has also seen much of his international support evaporate. Even many in the US Congress admitted the failure of the Trump administration’s Venezuela policy in a recent hearing. “Our Venezuela policy over the last year and a half has been an unmitigated disaster,” said Senator Chris Murphy.

Iranian President Denies US Statements On Tankers Seizures

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani Saturday announced that the U.S. lied about the seizure of four Iranian gasoline tankers headed towards Venezuela.  On Friday, the U.S. Justice Department announced that the country’s authorities had confiscated four Iranian fuel tankers bound for Venezuela.  “We have successfully executed the seizure of four vessels, that were carrying a total of 1.116 million oil barrels.  With the assistance of foreign partners, this seized property is now under U.S. custody,” the U.S. Justice Department stated.  However, "non of the seized tankers were Iran-flagged. It was all just fake news,” Rouhani said.

US Seizes Iranian Oil From Four Tankers En Route To Venezuela

The Trump administration has seized the cargo of four tankers it was targeting for transporting Iranian fuel to Venezuela, U.S. officials said Thursday, as it steps up its campaign of maximum pressure against the two heavily sanctioned allies. Last month, federal prosecutors in Washington filed a civil forfeiture complaint alleging that the sale was arranged by a businessman with ties to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, a U.S.-designated foreign terrorist organization. At the time, sanctions experts thought it would be impossible to enforce the U.S. court order in international waters. A senior U.S. official told The Associated Press that no military force was used in the seizures and that the ships weren’t physically confiscated. Rather, U.S. officials threatened ship owners, insurers and captains with sanction to force them to hand over their cargo, which now becomes U.S. property, the official said. It is not clear where the vessels or their cargoes currently are.

The AFL-CIO Aided US Interference in Venezuela

The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) Solidarity Center has a long history of working hand in glove with the U.S. government in undermining democracy and left labor movements throughout the world. The center emphasizes it has shifted away from these Cold War tactics in recent years. But newly obtained documents show that the Solidarity Center has worked closely with the US to undermine the Venezuelan government in the recent past. Across much of the world, the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) acted as an international arm of U.S. foreign policy, both before and during the Cold War. In doing so, the AFL-CIO sought to undermine left-leaning and communist groups, labor unions, and governments — with little concern for democracy and often with no compunction about using or supporting brutal violence — in Italy and France in the 1940s, Guatemala in the 1950s, Brazil in the 1960s, Chile in the 1970s, and many other countries.
