No Child Should Be A Target

The Palestine-Global Mental Health Network, along with its international counterparts, is now launching an international campaign to demand that world governments hold Israel accountable to the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child—principles which prioritize the inherent right to life and uphold the best interests of all children. The genocidal intentions of the Zionist settler-colonial state, recognized by many as Israel, (hereinafter referred to as Israel), are made clear in various documented statements by its officials. The former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has derogatorily referred to Palestinians as “human animals”, while Israeli President Isaac Herzog has stated, “there are no innocent civilians in Gaza”.

ICC Issues Arrest Warrants For Netanyahu And Gallant

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued on 21 November arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes in Gaza, in a landmark move coming several months after the court’s top prosecutor filed applications for their arrest. “Today … Pre-Trial Chamber I of the International Criminal Court (‘Court’), in its composition for the Situation in the State of Palestine, unanimously issued two decisions rejecting challenges by the State of Israel (‘Israel’) brought under articles 18 and 19 of the Rome Statute (the ‘Statute’).

Israel And The Evidence Gap

In early October 2024, Professor Joseph Massad of Columbia University gave an interview to the online news site Electronic Intifada. In it he said that there is a “huge gap” between the academic (evidence-based) understanding of aspects of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict (such as the Jewish supremacist nature of Israeli society and its resulting apartheid policies) and the mainstream media assumptions about (a “democratic” and “progressive”) Israel. The latter define the popular and official reporting about that country and its Zionist ideology. Massad’s observation describes a problem that distorts more than just views of Israel.

United Nations Finds 70 Percent Of Gaza Deaths Women And Children

The majority of the casualties in Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip have been women and children, according to a report released on 8 November by the UN Human Rights Office. According to the report, nearly 70 percent of the confirmed number of dead are women and children, which “demonstrates an apparent indifference to the death of civilians and the impact of the means and methods of warfare selected.” It also marks a “a systematic violation of the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law,” the report said. It notes that 80 percent of the deaths took place in residential buildings or in homes.

‘Gaza Tribunal’ Established To Seek Justice For War Crimes In Gaza

A group of academics, intellectuals, human rights advocates, and representatives from the media and civil society organizations gathered in London last week, the capital of the UK, to launch the symbolic “Gaza Tribunal," an independent initiative serving as a "court of humanity and conscience." Led by Richard Falk, a distinguished international law expert and former UN special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, the tribunal is taking an alternative route to international justice, aiming to spotlight voices from civil society in the examination of abuses following the conflict that escalated after Hamas-led attacks on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

The Chris Hedges Report: Genocide As Colonial Erasure

“The crime of all crimes.” That is how the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda declared genocide in the final judgment of Prosecutor v. Akayesu, the case against the mayor of Taba, Rwanda for crimes against humanity. Today, that crime repeats itself as UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories Francesca Albanese painfully details in her latest report. Albanese joins host Chris Hedges on this episode of The Chris Hedges Report to break down her report and present the indisputable evidence that Israel is actively committing a genocide of the Palestinian people.

Israel’s Genocide Day 388: Ongoing Israeli Assault In Northern Gaza

The last functioning hospital in northern Gaza has officially stopped functioning after Israeli forces raided it over the weekend, arresting all but two of its medical staff and damaging parts of the hospital premises. On Saturday, Israeli forces began to raid the hospital, ordering patients and medical staff to leave its wings and descend to the courtyard. Israeli soldiers then separated the men from the women and arrested dozens of Palestinians, including all of the hospital’s staff except one nurse and the hospital’s Director, Dr. Husam Abu Safiyeh.

Han Kang’s Nobel Prize Award Is A Cry For Palestine

South Korean novelist Han Kang has won the Nobel Prize for Literature, beating short-listed literary heavyweights like Thomas Pynchon, Haruki Murakami, Salman Rushdie, Gerald Murnane, and the all-odds-favorite, Chinese author Can Xue.  Han Kang was as shocked as anyone else after receiving the call notifying her that she had won. When asked what she would do next, she said she would quietly "have tea with her son". She has refused a press conference, saying that "with the wars raging between Russia and Ukraine, Israel and Palestine, with deaths being reported every day, she could not hold a celebratory press conference. She asked for understanding in this matter."

With US Support, Netanyahu Threatens Lebanon With Destruction

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on 8 October called on the people of Lebanon to “free [their] country from Hezbollah,” threatening them with “destruction and suffering” if they refused to do so. “You have an opportunity to save Lebanon before it falls into the abyss of a long war that will lead to destruction and suffering like we see in Gaza. It doesn’t have to be that way,” Netanyahu said as his country’s air force continued to launch non-stop raids across Lebanon. “We have degraded Hezbollah’s capabilities; we took out thousands of terrorists, including [Hezbollah secretary-general Hassan] Nasrallah himself, and Nasrallah’s replacement, and the replacement of his replacement,” the Israeli premier added before calling on the people of Lebanon to “take back your country, and return it to a path of peace and prosperity.”

Report: Blinken Approved Israeli Attacks On Gaza Aid Convoys

US State Secretary Anthony Blinken gave the green light for Israel to launch attacks against humanitarian aid convoys inside the Gaza Strip in the early days of Israel's genocide of Palestinians, according to a report by Drop Site News (DSN) citing Israeli journalists and media outlets. Tel Aviv's decision was made during a marathon session of the Security Cabinet between 16 and 17 October that Blinken took part in. “From within the Kirya, the Israeli military’s main headquarters in Tel Aviv, Blinken participated in the frantic discussions of the Israeli War Cabinet … that were occurring in parallel to conversations in the broader Security Cabinet,” DSN reports.

New Report: De-Gaza: A Year Of Israel’s Genocide

Palestinian Territory – Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor has released a comprehensive report marking one year since Israel launched its genocidal campaign against civilians in the Gaza Strip on 7 October 2023. During this period, Israel has committed grave war crimes, with the explicit complicity of the international community. Titled De-Gaza: A Year of Israel’s Genocide and the Collapse of World Order, the report details the most prominent crimes committed over the past 12 months, thoroughly documented by Euro-Med field teams. It traces the clear elements of genocide perpetrated by the Israeli army, explores the legal frameworks defining the crime of genocide, and scrutinises both the context and ongoing circumstances.

Can The UN Fulfill Its Mission In An Imperialist-Dominated World?

During the months of September and October the United Nations is holding its 79th General Assembly, which is the space of broadest participation of the international body. The United Nations’ legitimacy, credibility and capacity to fulfill its founding mission to ensure peace and security have been questioned for decades, and 2023-24 was no different. Still, never before has the world witnessed a genocide unfolding before its eyes. In this context, the United Nations’ inability to do anything to stop it shines a bright and unforgiving light on the limitations of this body. Shaky Foundations Throughout its history the United Nations has been subjected to intense efforts at control or sabotage by colonial powers and US imperialist interests.

Arab States Warn Israel ‘Pushing For All-Out War’

Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq warned in a joint statement on 25 September that Israel is “pushing” the region into a state of all-out war. The joint statement was made on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York. “Israel is pushing the region into a comprehensive war,” the foreign ministers of the three Arab states said, condemning the ongoing Israeli attacks across Lebanon and calling on “the international community and the Security Council to assume their relevant responsibilities to stop the war.” Stopping this “dangerous escalation underway in the region” must begin “by halting Israel’s aggression in Gaza,” they added.

Israel’s Tally Of War Crimes In Lebanon Increases

Israel escalated attacks against Lebanon on September 23, marking the deadliest day of Israeli bombings in that country since 2006. Israel’s strikes in southern and eastern Lebanon, as well as the capital city of Beirut, left a death toll of at least 274, including women, children and paramedics. The Israeli military targeted “medical centres, ambulances and cars of people trying to flee,” according to Al Jazeera, which cited Lebanon’s Health Minister Firass Abiad as the source for the information. Israel also targeted civilian homes, which it claimed were housing Hezbollah weapons. This latest targeting of Lebanese civilians comes on the heels of Israel’s detonation of hand-held electronic devices in civilian areas of Lebanon on September 17 and 18, when Israeli forces remotely triggered multiple explosions of electronic pagers and walkie-talkies that killed at least 37 people, including a 9-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy, and maimed or injured 3,250 people, 200 critically.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 353: Israel Bombs Lebanon

At least 274 Lebanese have been killed and 1,024 have been wounded by Israeli airstrikes, the Lebanese Health Ministry said on Monday as Israeli bombings continue on dozens of Lebanese towns in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley in the eastern part of the country. On Monday morning, the Israeli army announced that it was going to engage in a “difficult day of fighting” in Lebanon, as its spokesperson claimed that Hezbollah was storing missiles in homes and civilian areas. The spokesperson illustrated a digital drawing made by the army as “proof” of his claims, calling upon Lebanese citizens — in Hebrew — to move away from sites tied to Hezbollah.
