Donald Trump

Why Trump Is Escalating The US-Israeli War On Iran

Columbia University professor Joseph Massad has suggested that recent US-backed moves to reach formal “non-aggression pacts” between Israel and certain Gulf States may be a preparatory step for a wider war against Iran as well as against Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and the Palestinians. Understanding this perverted logic is essential to seeing why the US and Israel appear so determined to pursue conflict with Iran no matter the human cost.

In Redux Of Iraq War Run Up, Media Cheers On Assassination Of Soleimani

Assassinating foreign leaders is a major international war crime under international law, yet across the corporate spectrum, media applauded the bombing, or “precision targeting,” as CNN described it. Unsurprisingly, many conservative media outlets supported the Trump administration’s decision to potentially spark a huge international conflict. The Washington Examiner quoted one “expert” celebrating the killing as more important than Bin Laden’s death and a “massive blow to the regime.” Fox News quickly published an opinion piece from Christian Whiton of the strongly hawkish Center for the National Interest, praising Trump for acting “correctly and decisively,” preventing further American bloodshed by taking out a major “terrorist.”

‘Qassem Soleimani Assassination: Trump Is Playing With Fire To Save His Presidency’

The US assassination of Qassem Soleimani, Iran's top commander, and a number of Iraqi militia leaders, on Friday, represents a significant escalation tantamount to an act of war with grave long-term consequences. Viewed from Tehran, this is American rogue behavior run amok, a blatant act of war with the full-blown arrogance of a declining superpower willing to cross any red line, transgress any rule of law, to achieve its hegemonic ends. Sadly, as his misguided policies with respect to both Iran and Iraq clearly show, Trump is not only repeating the impeachment ploy of his predecessor, but he is also on the verge of recycling the errors of the Bush-era wars in the Middle East.

Killing Soleimani Pushes The U.S. And Iran Towards War

t is hard to convey how irrational and destructive this latest action is. The U.S. and Iran have been dangerously close to war for months, but the Trump administration has made no effort to deescalate tensions. All that it would take to push the two governments over the brink into open conflict is a reckless attack that the other side cannot ignore. Now the U.S. has launched just such an attack and dared Iran to respond. The response may not come immediately, but we have to assume that it is coming. Killing Soleimani means that the IRGC will presumably consider it open season on U.S. forces all across the region.

Impeachment Indicts Both Parties And Clarifies Our Tasks In 2020

The Democratic Party's electoral strategy of impeaching Donald Trump is backfiring. Before impeachment, Trump was losing to each of the leading Democrats, but the latest USA Today/Suffolk University poll finds for the first time Trump defeating all of the leading Democratic candidates. Gallup reports that Trump's approval has risen by six points since the launch of the impeachment inquiry. A CNN poll found that support for impeachment fell by five percent over the past month. Rather than focus on issues that impact people's lives -- like racism and bigotry, the unfair economy that results in low wages, growing inequality, major corporations and the wealthy not paying taxes, as well as expensive and inadequate healthcare coverage -- Democrats are focusing on the issue of withholding military aid to Ukraine for a proxy war against Russia when voters are tired of never-ending wars.

Victory: Trump Administration Backs Down, Withdraws Proposal To Restrict Protest

On October 28, 2019, the National Park Service said "In response to more than 140,000 comments received from the public and stakeholders, the National Park Service (NPS) today announced it is withdrawing its August 2018 proposal to revise the First Amendment and Special Use Permit regulations for the National Mall, President’s Park and other national parks in the Washington, D.C. area." This victory shows once again that if we unite and act in solidarity we can win. Now that we have kept our right to protest, we urge people to exercise those rights in the coming years. The 2020s will be a decade of potential transformational change but it will only happen if people mobilize to demand the change we need.

‘Ukrainegate’ Teaches Us More About Ourselves Than Trump Or Biden

'Ukrainegate' has opened the floodgates of impeachment in Washington, DC. President Trump's phone call with Ukrainian President Zelensky provided such an opportunity that Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, who resisted pressure for impeachment, is now on board along with a majority of the party. Democrats are moving quickly to make Trump the third president ever to be impeached. Impeachment by the House seems inevitable even though less than a majority of voters currently support it. The Democrats need to be careful because shining a light on Ukraine, where Obama-Biden conducted the most open coup in US history (until the recent Trump failed coup in Venezuela,) could undermine Joe Biden, their highest polling candidate. It will also expose the ugly realities of US foreign policy, the corporate control of both parties and the need for fundamental change in US politics.

Trump and Biden Put US Regime Change Gangsterism On Display In Ukraine

The corporate media is telling a false story about Joe Biden and the investigation of the gas company on whose board his son Hunter Biden sat.  There was an ongoing investigation of the company and Biden threatened Ukraine with a financial crisis if the prosecutor was not fired and the investigation halted. Read the sworn statement of Ukraine Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin that claims he was forced out of office by US VP Joe Biden because Shokin was investigating the gas company on whose board Biden's son was sat. Biden threatened to disapprove a billion-dollar loan to Ukraine unless Shokin was fired. Trump and Biden put US gangsterism on display. The post-coup US involvement in Ukraine after the US-supported and led the coup, should end both of their careers and stop US regime-change operations.

If Ukraine Facts Come Out, It Could Spell The End For Joe Biden

The Joe Biden-friendly Establishment media has mounted a full-court press to “prove” that Biden is, well, not a crook. The stakes are extremely high, Biden is vulnerable, and media players are using to a fare-thee-well the old adage about the best defense is a good offense.  The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal are desperately trying to steal the ball and get ahead in the publicity game.  But time is about to run out, and pre-emptive propaganda is unlikely to snatch victory out of the jaws of defeat. IF the facts do come out and IF they are reported, Biden’s presidential hopes may suffer a mortal blow.

The Killing And Chaos Of The Afghanistan War Continues

The never-ending war in Afghanistan which began with the US invasion on October 7, 2001, continues.  BBC is not one of our favored sources of information but this series of articles summarized below presents images of this war that is forgotten on the pages of corporate, mainstream media in the US. It is time for the US to leave Afghanistan. This is a war the US has lost and cannot win. The US has created chaos and killing for an objective that is no longer valid since Osama bin Laden was killed years ago. The US should never relied on war for the 9/11 attack. There are international criminal courts where that crime should have been investigated and prosecuted. The opportunity for negotiation is passed. Now is the time for a rapid, orderly exit.

Exit John Bolton, But Will That Mean An End To His Failed Foreign Policy?

Many who oppose the aggressive foreign policy of the United States under President Donald Trump, which has resulted in record numbers of bombs dropped, regime change operations against Venezuela, Nicaragua, Iran and Hong Kong, the abusive use of unilateral coercive measures (sanctions) and record military budgets, cheered when uber-hawk, John Bolton was removed as the National Security Advisor. Bolton undermined Trump numerous times such as when Trump wanted to get out of Syria and sought negotiations with North Korea and Iran. Bolton led Trump into regime-change operations in Nicaragua and Venezuela, both of which backfired. The firing of Bolton is an opportunity for Trump to make a major course correction on foreign policy as the 2020 election heats up.

Venezuelans March Against US Embargo In Enormous #NoMoreTrump Protest

Hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans responded to Trump’s executive order by flooding the streets of the capital, Caracas. They protested the crippling US blockade with the slogans “No more Trump!” (No más Trump!) and “Trump unblock Venezuela!” On August 10, Venezuela and solidarity groups around the world held a joint protest against the embargo. The demonstration was gigantic — one of the largest I have attended in my life. If you stood in place and watched the march go by, you could witness rows and rows of demonstrators proceed for possibly an hour.

Stopping Trump’s Immigrant Abuse Requires Understanding Obama

Those fitting the national security state's classification of “illegal alien” are subjected to violent administrative detention processes and a myriad of enforcement procedures intended to discourage unauthorized border crossings, including family separation. And now they face Trump's renewed threat to unleash sweeping deportation raids this weekend. Trump’s spectacular crackdown—while an escalation—is not new: These abuses are an enduring legacy of the Obama presidency, which—along with previous administrations—laid the groundwork for the policies being condemned today.

Bolton Foreign Policy Causing Division In Trump Administration – US Activist

Foreign policy moves promoted by White House National Security Advisor John Bolton with respect to Venezuela and other countries are causing a split in the Trump administration, Popular Resistance activist group co-director Kevin Zeese said. "There have been indications in the Trump administration that Donald Trump feels like he was deceived by John Bolton and [Special Envoy for Venezuela] Elliott Abrams", Zeese said regarding Bolton’s efforts to force a change of government in Venezuela by claiming popular support for opposition leader and self-proclaimed president Juan Guaido. "In fact, the people of Venezuela support President [Nicolas] Maduro".

US Blasted At UN For Recognising Israeli Sovereignty Over Golan

The United States came under sharp criticism from 14 other United Nations Security Council nations for its decision to recognize Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights in violation of international law. The Security Council met on Wednesday at the request of Syria, which in a letter to the council called the US move a "flagrant violation" of UN resolutions. Speaker after speaker at the council session supported Syria's sovereignty over the Golan Heights and opposed Israel's annexation after Trump's proclamation. "This unilateral action does nothing to assist in finding a long-term peaceful solution to the conflict in the Middle East," South Africa's UN Ambassador Jerry Matjila said.
