Struggling To Break The Gaza Blockade

Longtime peace and justice activist Sarah Flounders recently traveled to Egypt with a delegation to push for opening the Rafah Crossing to let aid into Gaza. She was joined by members of a long list of organizations including the National Lawyers Guild, Palestine Prisoner Solidarity Network, Black Alliance for Peace, International Association of Democratic Lawyers, US Peace Council, Veterans for Peace, Samidoun, Palestine Rights, Free Julian Assange Committee, Philly Palestine Coalition, and Association for Investment in Popular Action Committees. They were accompanied by representatives of media outlets including Black Agenda Report, RT, The Grayzone, Real News Network, and Brazil's Diário do Central do Mondo.

Support For A Ceasefire Grows In US Congress

Within the halls of the United States Congress, Israel’s biggest ally, support for a ceasefire in Gaza is growing. Biden himself has openly refused multiple times to call for a ceasefire, and such calls remain unpopular with the majority of Congress members. On October 16, progressive Representatives Cori Bush and Rashida Tlaib introduced a resolution “calling for an immediate de-escalation and cease-fire in Israel and occupied Palestine.” While the resolution initially had 13 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives, the number of co-sponsors have since increased to 18, including Representatives Jamaal Bowman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Pramila Jayapal.

Sunday’s Gaza Guests Linked To Military Industry, Pro-Israel Funding

As the Israel/Gaza crisis continues unabated, eliciting massive protests around the world, US media offer a strikingly narrow debate. On the Sunday political news shows, which are both agenda-setting and reflect what corporate media view as the most important perspectives on the most important stories, the guests invited to speak on Gaza skew strongly toward US politicians—especially those with strong financial influence by the military industrial complex and pro-Israel advocates. The resulting conversations leave little room for dissent from a pro-war stance. FAIR looked at four weeks of Sunday shows covering the current conflagration in Gaza, October 15 through November 5.

Seattle Activists Win Resolution Calling For Cease-Fire In Gaza

Seattle -Councilmember Kshama Sawant (District 3, Central Seattle), working people, and anti-war activists have won a historic victory in forcing Democrats on the Seattle City Council to pass a resolution calling for a cease-fire in Gaza, humanitarian aid to the Palestinians, and release of all hostages. The vote was 6 yes, 0 no, and 3 abstentions. “This victory is a testament to the growing strength of the global anti-war movement,” Sawant said. “In the last weeks, millions have demonstrated in solidarity with the Palestinians and against the brutal Israeli state. In addition to huge and growing street demonstrations, workers have refused to handle Israeli war materiel in the ports of Barcelona, Spain; Salerno, Italy; and in Belgium.

Yemeni Armed Forces Capture Israeli Ship In Red Sea

The Yemeni Naval Forces managed to capture an Israeli ship in the depths of the Red Sea, sources familiar with the matter told Al Mayadeen on Sunday. Reportedly, 52 people aboard the Israeli ship, presumably a vehicle carrier, were detained, Al Mayadeen’s sources added, revealing that the Yemeni Armed Forces were working on revealing their identities and nationalities. The ship is called the Galaxy Leader. It is Bahamian-flagged but owned by an Israeli businessman. “Await what will warm your hearts,” a Yemeni military source said, confirming the authenticity of the news Al Mayadeen reported.

Gaza Massacre Could Lead To Nuclear War

As military veterans who have experienced the deadly threat of nuclear weapons from the Cuban Missile Crisis onward, as well as being distraught and outraged by what is now going on in Gaza, we must warn against the potential of a wider war in the Middle East, one that could even lead to nuclear war. The massive and relentless Israeli bombing of Gaza has been indiscriminate – if not actually targeting civilians. Over 10,000 Gazan residents have been killed to date, including at least 4,000 children. Many victims remain beneath the rubble. It is almost as if a nuclear bomb had been dropped.

America Inc.: Top 11 Companies Supporting Israel’s Crimes

You would think with all the war crimes and atrocities being committed by Israel right now that US corporations would not want their brand name slapped on top of the rubble that was once a school or a hospital. But that would suggest some sort of conscience. Most companies don't seem to care.  Here are the top 11 corporations deepest in bed with Israel. Let's start with the weapons contractors because they are the most villainous. The stocks of the big war profiteers have shot up since Israel's war on Gaza began. Northrup, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics and BAE Systems have gained more than $30 billion in value over just the past few weeks.

Corporate War Profiteers Finally Put On Trial

In early January 2009, a thirteen-year-old girl named Almaza Samouni watched in horror as 30 members of her family were killed while her home in Gaza was shelled by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) during Operation Cast Lead. Among the victims was her brother, who was struck by a missile while exiting the house to look for wood. The lethal missile that killed her brother was fired from an Apache AH-64 attack helicopter, which had been supplied to the IDF by Boeing, a top American defense contractor with headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. On November 12, 2023 a group of peace activists associated with World Beyond War convened a war crimes tribunal designed to hold Boeing and three other top defense contractors—Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and General Atomics—accountable for the kind of war crimes that led to the death of Almaza Samouni’s brother and most of the rest of her family.

Activating The Genocide Convention

There are 149 states party to the Genocide Convention. Every one of them has the right to call out the genocide in progress in Gaza and report it to the United Nations.  In the event that another state party disputes the claim of genocide — and Israel, the United States and the United Kingdom are all states party — then the International Court of Justice is required to adjudicate on “the responsibility of a State for genocide.” Note that here “parties to the dispute” means the states disputing the facts of genocide, not the parties to the genocide/conflict. Any single state party is able to invoke the convention.

Veterans For Peace Joins International Delegation Attempt To Reach Rafah Border Crossing With Gaza

VFP member Danny O’Brien, VFP Board member Gerry Condon, and VFP Advisory Board member, journalist Chris Hedges, are among an international delegation of writers, lawyers, journalists, activists, students, and organizers who arrived in Cairo, Egypt this week with the goal of reaching the Rafah border crossing with Gaza. VFP Advisory Board member, retired Colonel Ann Wright, was refused entry into Egypt. Their goal is to exert pressure to open the border for the immediate entry and sustained flow of urgent humanitarian aid—food, water, fuel, and medical aid to 2.3 million Palestinians facing starvation and death as genocidal Israeli airstrikes continuously pound defenseless civilians.

Gaza, The Ghetto

The intention of Israel and the United States is now very clear--ethnic cleansing and genocide of Palestinians in Gaza --as the world watches. The impunity of Israel and the U.S. is startling and dangerous for the security of the State of Israel and the United States of America as it perpetrates an unforgivable and unforgettable criminal act against Palestinians and all of humanity.  The world will remember forever what Israel and the U.S. have done! “Genocide Joe” Biden is the willing enabler of Israel as it conducts genocide on Palestinians in Gaza and terrorizes Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Israel Is Shutting Down Its Human Laboratory In Gaza

Cairo, Egypt - The Palestinians are human laboratory rats to the Israeli military, intelligence services and arms and technology industries. Israel’s drones, surveillance technology — including spyware, facial recognition software and biometric gathering infrastructure — along with smart fences, experimental bombs and AI-controlled machine guns, are tried out on the captive population in Gaza, often with lethal results. These weapons and technologies are then certified as “battle tested” and sold around the world. Israel is the 10th biggest arms dealer on the planet and sells its technology and weapons to an estimated 130 nations, including military dictatorships in Asia and Latin America.

Black Agenda Report Joins In Gaza Relief Effort

“We’ve come to Egypt to speak to the world directly from the border of Gaza, which we were not permitted to reach, and which we cannot traverse, and which remains closed for fuel, adequate food, clean water, medical supplies, equipment, and people, including healthcare professionals, to enter Gaza.” Statement from the International Delegation in Support of Gaza This columnist recently returned from Cairo, Egypt, where Black Agenda Report was among the organizations invited to participate in an effort to bring attention and help to the people of Gaza. The National Lawyers Guild played a leading role in assembling the group.

UNRWA: Deliberate Attempts Being Made To Strangle Its Activities In Gaza

The United Nation Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA) has claimed that there is a deliberate attempt to strangle its activities in the besieged Gaza strip by Israel which may lead to the shutting down all its humanitarian activities. Speaking to the press on Thursday, November 16, Philippe Lazzarini, head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, said there is a risk of the agency shutting down all its humanitarian work in the region due to lack of fuel and consistent attacks on its activities. “I do believe there is a deliberate attempt to strangle our operation and paralyze the UNRWA operation,” Lazzarini said.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 42: Communications Blackout Obscures Full Picture Of Israel’s Devastation

War rages on in Gaza, and the situation at Al-Shifa’ hospital in Gaza City continues to be at the center of attention. Palestinian news agency WAFA says thousands of medical staff, patients, and civilians who had taken refuge in the biggest medical complex in the besieged Gaza Strip have been taken “hostage” by Israeli forces, which have seized Al-Shifa’ since Wednesday over claims that the hospital lies above an underground Hamas command center. Israeli forces have encircled the hospital with tanks, bulldozers, and snipers for more than a week and have stormed the premises at least three times in as many days, reportedly forcing staff and civilians to strip naked, interrogating and detaining a number of Palestinians, many whose whereabouts are currently unknown, as well as destroying medical equipment.
