Right Rejected In Colombia, Left Leads Going Into Second Round In Uruguay

The first results from validated exit polls indicate that there will be a second electoral round between the leftist Broad Front candidate Daniel Martinez and right-wing representative of the National Party Luis Lacalle Pou after Sunday's elections. According to various exit polls, the leftist Broad Front would reach around 37 to 40 percent of the votes while its contender the National Party would have around 30 percent, meaning an absolute majority over 50 percent would not be reached resulting in a runoff vote to be held on Nov. 24.

US Military To Initiate Military Drills Near Venezuelan – Colombian Border

The US embassy in Bogota reported that on Monday they will begin infantry exercises, with the aim of rehearsing a possible invasion of Venezuela, camouflaged through alleged “humanitarian aid.” The announcement was made by the US SOUTHCOM through its twitter account, where they reported that: “The Marines came to Covenas, Colombia, while preparing to begin a week of training in humanitarian assistance,” reported the US army account. They also announced that in this “alleged” humanitarian assistance activity, communications and aerial operations will be carried out together with the Colombian Marine Corps.

Colombia Admits To Deceiving U.N. With Fake Pictures To Accuse Venezuela Of Illegal Activities

News agencies AFP and El Colombiano have confirmed that they had taken at least four of the pictures included in the dossier delivered by Colombian President Ivan Duque to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres last Thursday during the 74th U.N. Assembly General. According to the President, the photographs were to be key evidence to prove the relationship between Colombian illegal groups and the Venezuelan Government headed by Nicolas Maduro, reported the news website Semana.

FARC-EP Commanders Resume Armed Struggle Against Colombian Government

In response to the “betrayal of the “Peace Accords” by the Colombian state signed in Havana in 2016, a group of commanders of the insurgent Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army (FARC-EP)announced Thursday the beginning of a new stage of struggle. Through a communiqué, the leader of the insurgent group, Iván Márquez, invoked the universal right of peoples to rise up in arms against oppression.”Our strategic objective is the peace of Colombia with social justice … that is our flag, the flag of peace,” confirmed Marquez. Among those who accompanyig him are leaders Jesús Santrich and Hernán Darío Velásquez, El Paisa, who are facing open cases before the Special Jurisdiction for Peace. The group denounced the continued assassinations of social leaders and demobilized ex-combatants.

Venezuela Exposes Failed Terrorist Plan From Colombia

Caracas, Venezuela - Vicepresident Jorge Rodriguez presented evidence of a failed attack on Venezuela's highest courts located in Caracas meant to be carried out by criminals trained in Colombia. The government of Venezuela denounced a failed series of attacks against several strategic targets in Caracas, conducted from Colombia, according to information revealed by the Vicepresident and Minister of Communication and Tourism, Jorge Rodriguez. Rodriguez presented evidence of the plan orchestrated from Colombia with the intention of destabilizing the government of President Nicolas Maduro. According to Vicepresident Rodriguez the criminal plan has been going on with the complicity of Colombian President Ivan Duque. According to Minister Rodriguez, the plan included an explosion on Caracas’ Justice Palace that were meant to be carried by groups that he called “terrorists” trained in Colombian territory and commanded by Venezuelan opposition politician Julio Borges.

Organizers of the Toronto “July 26, walk for Life and Peace in Colombia” say there’s an invisible genocide taking place in Colombia. Violence against civil society has intensified at an alarming rate without effective action on the part of government to end the bloodshed. More than 500 social activists and 138 demobilized guerilla combatants have been killed since the signing of the Peace Accord between the state and FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) in 2016. 

Colombia Worldwide Protests Called Against Murder Of Colombian Social Leaders

The Defenders of Peace Movement said Monday that in the last one month at least 10 social leaders were killed in Colombia and called for an international march on July 26 in protest of the murders. “We invite all citizens to walk with us and make a presence in the events scheduled for that day for the life of those who defend life and peace in the territories,” the organization said in a statement. Another social leader was killed in Colombia last week. Humberto Diaz was a community leader and president of the Community Action Board of the Guadalupe District. He was shot by intruders in his home.

Afro-Colombian Human Rights Defender Facing Assassination

Danelly Estupiñan defends the rights of the afro-descendent population in Buenaventura, Valle del Cauca as part of the organization Black Community Process (Proceso Comunitario Negro). For the last seven months, Danelly has been facing surveillance from unknown men, which increased last week from once a day and only at her home to two times per day and in all locations she visits. The unknown men conduct surveillance not only on Danelly but also on her family members. They take pictures and video of what they are doing. We call upon the Public Prosecutor’s Office to launch an immediate investigation into these incidents in order to ensure that Danelly is protected. 

133 Former FARC Members Assassinated Since Peace Agreement Signed In 2016

Servio Delio Cuasaluzán Guanga was murdered on Monday in Colombia, specifically at El Palmar point, Chabú village, municipality of Ricaurte (Nariño), and became former FARC guerrilla number 133 found dead since the signing of the Peace agreement in 2016. There are another 11 that no one knows anything about, they are still “disappeared” by force. During this last week, the party “Fuerza Alternativa Revolucionaria del Común” leapt from one duel to the next. There were four murdered. Report after report came in: on Monday the victims were Ánderson Pérez (in Cauca) and Daniel Esterilla (in Nariño); on Wednesday, it was Carlos Miranda’ s turn, at the hands of the Public Force (in Meta), and yesterday, Servio Delio Cuasaluzán. FARC Leader Jesus Santrich Freed At Top Court’s Order

Colombia's Prosecutor office announced Thursday the release of Jesus Santrich, less than a day after the country's Supreme Court ordered his release, the latest development in a legal saga concerning his detention and possible extradition to the United States. From prison, Santrich went to the headquarters of the People's Alternative Revolutionary Force of Colombia (FARC). They will give a press conference soon from the headquarters. After that, he will go to the Colombian Congress to take his position as an elected lawmaker.
