Inter-Imperialist Rivalry

US Gov Narrative Blaming Iran For Oil Tanker Attacks Falls Apart In Hours

The Donald Trump administration’s evidence-less accusations against Iran have fallen apart within a matter of hours. But these US allegations did manage to disrupt an important meeting of Asian leaders at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, where Tehran was hoping to make diplomatic breakthroughs to ease a crippling American economic blockade. On Thursday, June 13, two oil tankers traveling through the Gulf of Oman on their way to Japan suffered from mysterious explosions. The cause of the incident was not clear.

Study Linking US Sanctions To Venezuelan Deaths Buried By Reuters For Over A Month

It would indeed have been impossible for a Reuters reporter to be aware of the study if they depended only on Reuters articles to keep informed. The news agency hadn’t mentioned the study since it was released, never mind written an article about it. I asked a contact I have at Reuters about this, and he was also surprised that Reuters hadn’t even mentioned the study. He suggested I query some of Reuters’ Venezuela-based reporters, which I did a few days later. In my email to them, I passed along a list of news articles since August 2017, when Trump first dramatically intensified economic sanctions...

Russia-China Partnership Ending US Unipolar World

The Russia-China strategic partnership, consolidated last week in Russia, has thrown U.S. elites into Supreme Paranoia mode, which is holding the whole world hostage. Something extraordinary began with a short walk in St. Petersburg last Friday. After a stroll, they took a boat on the Neva River, visited the legendary Aurora cruiser, and dropped in to examine the Renaissance masterpieces at the Hermitage. Cool, calm, collected, all the while it felt like they were mapping the ins and outs of a new, emerging, multipolar world.

China-India-Russia Moving Toward New Trading System In Response To Trump Protectionism

Narendra Modi expected to join Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin at Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit to express support for initiative. China hopes to win Indian and Russian support in establishing a “new type” of “rules-based” and “multilateral” trade initiative. Multiple Indian media reports suggest the country’s recently re-elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi will join forces with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian leader Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Kyrgyzstan this week to express their concerns about US President Donald Trump’s protectionist approach.

Getting China Wrong, Yet Again

The influential Council on Foreign Relations has released a remarkable special report by long-time diplomat Robert Blackwill entitled “Trump’s Foreign Policies are Better Than They Seem.” The report singles out Trump for praise because he identified China as a threat to the United States in economic, military, and cultural terms and criticized previous presidents for suggesting there was a need for strategic cooperation with China. The implication of the report is that the Obama and Bush administrations betrayed national interests by not taking a hard line on China.

More Evidence US Armed Syria Terrorists As Trump Pleads Ceasefire

Remember when Donald Trump was running for president back in 2016, and he bragged he would “bomb the hell out of” terrorists in Syria. Now, in a reversal, Trump is calling on Syrian and allied Russian forces to stop bombing Idlib, the last redoubt of terror groups in Syria. Trump urged Syria, Russia and Iran to “stop bombing the hell out of Idlib” claiming that civilians were being indiscriminately killed in the offensive to retake the renegade northwest province. It seems like a strange plea from the American president.

Mike Pompeo Disappointed By Anti-Chavism Division

What did Mike Pompeo say? This is all about remarks made at a closed-door meeting with Jewish leaders in New York last week, where the diplomat confirmed that Anti-Chavista politicians are divided and impulsive and that efforts made by the United States to keep them together have been harder than what they have publicly shown. “Our conundrum, which is to keep the opposition united, has proven devilishly difficult,” Pompeo said in the meeting, adding that “the moment Maduro leaves, everybody’s going to raise their hands and say ‘Take me, I’m the next president of Venezuela.’

Revolutions And Imperialist Aggressions

Throughout history, revolutions for national liberation and socialism, even progressive governments, have been the victims of systematic imperialist assaults. Military interventions, civil wars, covert operations, assassinations, coup d’etats, economic wars… these form the bulk of imperialism’s criminal actions in order to overthrow governments that rebel from their rule. In the Venezuelan case, the United States declared war on the Bolivarian Government the moment that comandante Hugo Chávez rose to power.

Smearing China

Elsewhere comes the imposing figure of United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who appears, as if on cue, with an “aggressive soundbite” about China that was reported by RT. China’s foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang dismissed the smear as “nonsense.” RT America anchor Rick Sanchez characterized the Chinese response as, “You are gonna criticize us because of what happened at Tiananmen Square three decades ago?” At this point my bullshit detector clicked into action.

Trump’s Venezuela Hallucination

Trump’s Venezuela policy is a shambles, and Russia previously brushed off his ultimatum to remove their forces from the country. It isn’t surprising that he would try to spin any development in his favor, but in this case it seems that he just invented something out of thin air so that his Venezuela policy wouldn’t look quite so feckless. He has no genuine successes that he can talk about, so he has to have pretend victories instead.

Internationalizing The Monroe Doctrine: From Venezuela To Golan Heights And Back Around

A remarkable diplomatic intervention has been published by United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who, along with the U.S. Ambassador to Israel, declares that “International Law Backs The Trump Golan Policy.” The opinion justifies President Donald Trump’s recent proclamation that the United States will recognize the Golan Heights, acquired from Syria by Israeli military force in 1967, as “part of the State of Israel.” The U.S. legal claims are incomprehensible in terms of any recognized methods and sources of international law.

Manufacturing War With Russia

Despite the Robert Mueller report’s conclusion that Donald Trump and his campaign did not collude with Russia during the 2016 presidential race, the new Cold War with Moscow shows little sign of abating. It is used to justify the expansion of NATO to Russia’s borders, a move that has made billions in profits for U.S. arms manufacturers. It is used to demonize domestic critics and alternative media outlets as agents of a foreign power. It is used to paper over the Democratic Party’s betrayal of the working class and the party’s subservience to corporate power.

A Green New Deal Needs To Fight US Militarism

The war on terror unleashed in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attack has led to almost two decades of unchecked militarism. We are spending more money on our military than at any time in history. Endless wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Syria and elsewhere are still raging, more wars are threatened against Iran and beyond, costing the US trillions of dollars and creating humanitarian disasters. Treaties to control nuclear arms are unraveling at the same time that conflicts with the major powers of Russia and China are heating up.

Kremlin Says Russian Military Specialists Are Still In Venezuela, Contradicting Trump Tweet

The Kremlin said on Tuesday it didn't know where U.S. President Donald Trump had got the idea Moscow had removed most of its military specialists from Venezuela, who it said continued to work there. Trump tweeted on Monday that Russia had told the United States it had removed "most of their people" from Venezuela, where Moscow has maintained close military and economic ties with socialist President Nicolas Maduro. His statement caused a stir because, if true, it would mark a significant setback for Maduro, whom Washington is keen to dislodge and whom the Kremlin has steadfastly stood by.

95-Year-Old Woman Veteran On A Hunger Strike For Children Of Yemen, Syria, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela As Victims

Sally Alice Thompson is 95 years old and she is on a hunger strike for the children, children who are victims of the U.S. government's sanctions and war mongering on the countries where they live -- Yemen, Syria, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, and Venezuela. She is a World War II Navy veteran, an anti-war activist and member of Veterans for Peace in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ms. Thompson has been involved in peace, and anti-nuclear issues for decades. In 1986, she walked across the United States in the Great American Peace Walk and a year later joined 200 other Americans who walked for peace from Moscow to St. Petersburg in the US-Soviet International Peace Walk.
