Wars and Militarism

What Is Really Happening In Venezuela?

Venezuela is very divided politically, but in general, the Bolivarian Revolution initiated by previous President Hugo Chávez and continued by current President Nicolás Maduro still has a lot of support from poor and working-class Venezuelans. Most rich people and elites are pro-US and anti-government. Many of them have left the country, but there are still some in Venezuela (especially in wealthy areas like Chacao). In Venezuela, most people are tired of political conflict and violence, and they simply want stability. The right-wing opposition does not have many active supporters inside the country. Whenever they try to hold a protest, only a few hundred people show up.

Veterans, Activists Protest Air Command Center Against War On Venezuela

Tucson, AZ – Three progressive Veterans organizations and others joined the Tucson Anti-War Committee outside the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base on Veterans Day, November 11, to protest the Trump administration’s war escalations on Venezuela. The group of nearly two dozen protesters received many more supportive honks from passing cars than in previous years – a sign that the tide has shifted as more Americans are fed up with the endless war machine. With signs reading “No blood for oil” and “Hands off Venezuela,” the group heard from veterans and anti-war organizers.

Let The Sudanese People Walk Toward Peace

In early November, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres addressed the ‘horrifying crisis in Sudan, which is spiralling out of control’. He urged the warring parties to ‘bring an end to this nightmare of violence – now’. There is a path to end the war, but there is simply no political will to enforce it. In May 2025, we wrote about the history of the conflict. In 2019, we explained the uprising that took place that year as well as its aftermath. Now, from Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research, the International Peoples’ Assembly, and Pan Africanism Today, comes red alert no. 21 on the need for peace in Sudan.

The US War On China, Venezuela, And The International Left

Everywhere you look, the United States is at war– at home, through military occupation of cities, institutional violence, and state-sanctioned kidnappings, and abroad, through economic coercion, proxy warfare, and endless intervention. In times like these, when it is far too easy to be overwhelmed by the inexhaustible nature of the war machine, we must remember that these are not separate crises, but different fronts of the same struggle. And to resist one is to resist them all. The enemy, in every case, is U.S. imperialism.

Al-Qaeda Goes To Washington

I never thought I would see the day, but the day came Monday, when Ahmed al–Sharaa arrived at the White House for a sit-down with President Donald Trump and the usual gaggle of misfits who must be there to make sure the Trumpster understands at least a little of what is being said. A freak-show terrorist amid all that retro Oval Office elegance: Who could have imagined so offensive a tableau? Al–Sharaa, alert readers will know, is one of those dripping-with-blood Sunni jihadists who, during the West’s extended covert operation against the Assad regime in Syria, had the habit of changing their names and the names of their murderous militias whenever the world figured out who they were and the extent of their savagery.

‘Regime Change’ In Venezuela: A Euphemism For US-Inflicted Carnage

For decades, Washington has sold the world a deadly lie: that “regime change” brings freedom, that U.S. bombs and blockades can somehow deliver democracy. But every country that has lived through this euphemism knows the truth – it instead brings death, dismemberment, and despair. Now that the same playbook is being dusted off for Venezuela, the parallels with Iraq and other U.S. interventions are an ominous warning of what could follow. As a U.S. armada gathers off Venezuela, a U.S. special operations aviation unit aboard one of the warships has been flying helicopter patrols along the coast.

Caribbean Leaders Call For Unified Resistance To US Attacks

The tiny Caribbean island nation of Barbados — with a population roughly the size of Anchorage, Alaska, or Lincoln, Nebraska — might not be the country one would first imagine taking the lead to stand up to U.S. military actions and ambitions in the region. But as the Trump administration continues to attack boats, first in the Caribbean Sea and now in the Pacific, leaders in Barbados have been vocal. “As a small state, we have invested tremendous time and energy and effort in establishing and maintaining our region as a zone of peace,” Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley said at a conference in late October.

The US Continues Its Attempt To Overthrow The Bolivarian Revolution

Since early September, the United States has given every indication that it could be preparing for a military assault on Venezuela. Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research partnered with ALBA Movimientos, the International Peoples’ Assembly, No Cold War, and the Simón Bolívar Institute to produce red alert no. 20, ‘The Empire’s Dogs Are Barking at Venezuela’, on the potential scenarios and implications of US intervention. In February 2006, Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez travelled to Havana to receive the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s José Martí Prize from Fidel Castro. In his speech, he likened Washington’s threats against Venezuela to dogs barking, saying, ‘Let the dogs bark, because it is a sign that we are on the move’.

VIPS Memo: What Wider War In Venezuela Would Bring

We are deeply concerned about where the United States seems to be headed in its Venezuela policy and urge you to demand that the Intelligence Community give you clear, unfiltered, “truth-to-power” analysis, as well as covert action options in Venezuela. Flying blind into an unprovoked war against a Latin American government, even one weakened by years of U.S. “maximum-pressure” sanctions, risks a conflagration that could draw Russia into the conflict and offers zero probability of establishing a legitimate, pro-U.S. successor government. We see a classic storm of politicization brewing in the Intelligence Community, to which we devoted our careers, as a result of blatant pressures that it give you the “right” answer – fabricating or exaggerating a pretext for direct military intervention in Venezuela.

Venezuela: On Maximum Alert… But Without Alarmism

Today, in any Venezuelan city, one might suddenly see a military convoy carrying equipment and weapons generally only seen during national celebrations such as June 24 or July 5. Yet what stands out most is not the vehicles or the weaponry, but the people operating and accompanying them: a diverse mix of soldiers and civilians. This is not the classic mobilization of professional troops or conscripts seen in most parades or training maneuvers. Alongside the officers and enlisted personnel march militia members—civilians with some military training—as well as recently enlisted citizens, many of them still in civilian clothes, experiencing for the first time what it is like to ride in a combat vehicle or a Chinese-made Beiben 6×6 truck.

US Issues ‘Final Warning’ To Baghdad Over Iraqi Resistance Factions

The US has issued its “final” and “most serious” warning to Iraq regarding the Iran-linked resistance factions in the country, according to Iraqi Defense Minister Thabit al-Abbasi. Abbasi said in an interview over the weekend that Washington’s latest message “concerns armed factions and includes a direct threat in the event that those factions carry out any operations in response to what Washington intends to do in the region near Iraq in the coming days.” No further details were provided on what exactly these US operations would entail. The minister said the message was relayed during a call with US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. Hegseth ended the call by saying "This is your final warning... and you know very well how the current administration will respond," Abbasi went on to say.

No War On Venezuela: Week Of Coordinated Protests – Nov. 15 To 23

The US military is hurrying its aircraft carrier battle group, with destroyers, jet warplanes and nuclear submarines to the shores of Venezuela, while threatening Colombia and massing U.S. troops in the Caribbean. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is calling for the military overthrow of President Maduro in Venezuela and the replacement of President Petro in Colombia.  This is a build-up to another endless U.S. war – a war to militarize the whole Western Hemisphere. Meanwhile the use of Federal troops and thousands of ICE agents in raids and mass arrests, along with massive increases in health costs and cuts to government services, are an attack on all working people in the U.S.

Trump Is Moving Relentlessly Toward Illegal War In Venezuela

As the Trump administration continues to murder people in small boats on the high seas and mounts the largest U.S. military buildup in decades in the Caribbean, it is moving inexorably toward an all-out, illegal attack and forcible regime change in Venezuela. Despite Team Trump’s feeble attempts to legally justify its ocean strikes, which have now killed 57 people since early September, those extrajudicial killings are also unlawful. Donald Trump’s murderous campaign came into focus on February 20, when the State Department designated eight drug trafficking organizations, including Tren de Aragua, as foreign terrorist organizations.

UAE Funnels British Weapons To Sudan Militia Committing Genocide

UK weapons and military equipment supplied by the UAE to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are being spotted on the Sudanese battlefield, according to a 28 October report by The Guardian. The report cites two dossiers of documents, which have reportedly been seen by the UN Security Council. Small-arms target systems and personnel carrier engines made by London are among the equipment being found in Sudan, the report says. The report has also highlighted the UK’s role in fueling the Sudan conflict. “Months after the UN Security Council first received material alleging that the UAE may have supplied British-made items to the RSF, new data indicates that the British government went on to approve further exports to the Gulf state for military equipment of the same type,” The Guardian notes.

Trump, Russian Oil And Tomahawk Missiles

U.S. President Donald Trump has seemingly shifted gear in the U.S. strategy to stop Russia on its tracks from creating new facts on the ground in Ukraine. Russian forces have the upper hand all along the 1250-kilometer Ukrainian frontline stretching Kiev’s defences and resources, which no amount of Western military help can hope to reverse in a foreseeable future. Trump is compelling Russia to seek a military victory in Ukraine. Trump so far put on the air of a statesman in great anguish over the humanitarian aspects of the conflict. Moscow tolerated the theatrical show to pamper Trump’s egoistic personality — that is, until Russian President Vladimir Putin shattered the myth to expose that Trump actually holds the record as the American president who sanctioned Russia the most number of times, exceeding even his predecessor Joe Biden’s tally.
