Milwaukee, WI - The Freedom Road Socialist Organization was named in an article published in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on January 7 after a candidate for Milwaukee County Executive was pictured at an anti-war protest near a FRSO banner. Wisconsin FRSO does not currently endorse candidates for public office, however, we appreciate political candidates that are willing to take a principled stand against Trump’s escalation of war with Iran.

I travel frequently and have seen the many monuments to soldiers and to wars that occupy our city squares and parks.  In the summer of 2005 my son James and I visited Washington, DC after he finished his first year of college.  We made the standard tour of the city, visiting museums, the White House, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, and the newly dedicated National World War II Memorial. These memorials exist to reinforce the notion that war efforts or activities are highly valued and rewarded by our society.

Activists from anti-war group CodePink on Sunday protested an exhibit of paintings of veterans by former President George W. Bush at the Kennedy Center, calling the decision to feature the work an example of "artwash." Bush's paintings have been controversial over his post-presidency, with much of the criticism focusing on the appearance of the former president using as subjects the men who went to war in Iraq because of fase claims about Iraq. "Why are we celebrating the guy who took these people to war?" asked CodePink co-founder Medea Benjamin at the group's protest Sunday.

Veterans, Anti-War Activists Protest Proposed Air Force Base Expansion In Nevada

Las Vegas-area veterans joined anti-war activists outside Nellis Air Force Base for a protest against the proposed expansion of the Nevada Test and Training Range. The approximately 25 demonstrators on Thursday were the latest to voice opposition to the U.S. Air Force’s plan to expand the 2.9-million acre range, located in rural Clark, Lincoln and Nye counties. The Air Force hopes to extend the range by 301,507 acres, the vast majority of which would be in the Desert National Wildlife Refuge. The range already overlaps with about half of the 1.6 million-acre refuge, the largest wildlife refuge in the contiguous United States.

Appeals Court Tells FBI To Destroy Memo On Anti-War Website

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The FBI must destroy 15-year-old records of its investigation into the two co-founders of a San Francisco online anti-war website and the site’s activities, a federal appeals court ruled. The FBI started looking into antiwar.com and its editors in 2004 after the website posted two “watch lists” of people the FBI was investigating after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, according to a memo co-founders Eric Garris and Justin Raimondo obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Friday.

‘Trailblazer In The Name Of Peace’: Anti-War Hero Frances Crowe Dies At 100

Longtime peace activist Frances Crowe has died at the age of 100, leaving behind seven decades of decades work towards justice and inspiration for those still working for a better world. She died last Tuesday in her home in Northampton, Massachusetts, where she lived since 1951, surrounded by her family, who wrote that her motto was "Live simply so that others can simply live." Crowe, wrote Janet and Wayne Dinelli in the online guest book for her obituary, was a "true spirit and a trailblazer in the name of peace."

While on active duty, Lt. Susan Schnall dropped antiwar leaflets over five military installations and an aircraft carrier from a small plane, held a press conference, and lead a mass peace march while in uniform. She’s been resisting war ever since. “It became more and more obvious to me as I took care of these guys and physically got them better that I couldn’t heal them psychologically, and I certainly couldn’t heal their souls. And I thought, “I’ve become a part of the military. I need to do something about this, and we need to end this war. I understood that there would be repercussions."
