Their Rules-Based International Order Is The Rule Of The Mafia

The skin is the largest organ of the human body. It covers our entire surface, at some points only as thin as a piece of paper and at other points about half as thick as a credit card. The skin, which protects us from all manner of germs and other harmful elements, is fragile and unable to defend humans from the dangerous weapons we have made over time. The ancient blunt axe will break the skin with a heavy blow, while a 2000-pound MK-84 ‘dumb bomb’ made by General Dynamics will not only obliterate the skin, but the entire human body. Despite a 24 May order from the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the Israeli military continues to bomb the southern part of Gaza, particularly the city of Rafah.

Announcing The Launch Of The Online Popular University For Gaza

As the death toll rises in the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza, San Francisco State University (SFSU) has once again decided to cancel its only Palestine course that Dr. Rabab Abdulhadi was scheduled to teach during this summer school. This abrupt and irrational decision seeks to criminalize the Palestine curriculum while dismissing and ignoring popular student demand to learn a critical Palestinian perspective that has been absent on U.S. college campuses. Over the last month, hundreds of students, academics, community leaders, and organizers called on SFSU administrators to urgently reverse their decision to cancel Dr. Abdulhadi’s popular and unique course.

Resistance Is What Liberates Us: Palestine And Internationalism

I want to focus on a pivotal period for every single national liberation struggle that is represented in this panel by the organizations here today. And that period is the end of World War II. This is the beginning of the ongoing Nakba in Palestine. This is the beginning of the system of apartheid in South Africa. This is the heat of the Hukbalahap war in the Philippines, a brutal campaign of state terrorism against that very nation’s independence fighters, which was backed, financed and directed by the United States in the name of anti-communism. And in Korea, this was the time of the dawn of national division and the beginning of what the United States calls the Korean War. But what we Korean patriots call the Great Fatherland Liberation War.

Healthcare Workers Will Protest The American Medical Association

On June 8, healthcare workers will demonstrate outside of a meeting of the American Medical Association House of Delegates in Chicago. These health employees, representing diverse sectors in healthcare, are protesting the AMA’s refusal to address the ongoing genocide in Gaza, despite taking action regarding other conflicts in the past, such as the war in Ukraine. The protest is being organized by a range of pro-Palestine healthcare workers’ organizations, including Healthcare Workers for Palestine and Doctors Against Genocide. Peoples Dispatch spoke to Emily Hacker, a member of Healthcare Workers for Palestine, who said that the goal of protesters was to pressure the AMA to call for a ceasefire.

European Recognition Of Palestine Signals Major Shift In Discourse

If one were to argue that a top Spanish government official would someday declare that “from the river to the sea, Palestine would be free,” the suggestion would have seemed ludicrous. But this is precisely how Yolanda Diaz, Spain’s Deputy Prime Minister, concluded a statement on May 23, a few days before Spain officially recognized Palestine as a state. The Spanish, Norwegian, and Irish recognition of Palestine is the most important. Western Europe is finally catching up with the rest of the world regarding the significance of a solid international position in support of the Palestinian people and rejection of Israel’s genocidal practices in occupied Palestine.

The Anti-War Left Makes Inroads In Israel

Omdim be’Yachad-Naqef Ma’an, or Standing Together, is a Jewish-Arab social movement in Israel that organises against racism and occupation, and for equality and social justice. Federico Fuentes interviewed Standing Together’s national field organiser Uri Weltmann to discuss the growing peace movement inside Israel, how activists are confronting far-right extremists seeking to disrupt humanitarian aid going to the Gaza Strip, and the left’s recent electoral breakthroughs. How has the peace movement inside Israel developed since October 7? Is the movement succeeding in shifting broader public opinion and undermining Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's war efforts? And what role is Standing Together playing within the movement?

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 241: Israel Contradicts Biden

The Gaza-based Palestinian health ministry announced that the remaining hospitals in the Gaza Strip received 268 slain Palestinians in Israeli airstrikes since Thursday, May 30, while 1207 others arrived wounded. Meanwhile, local media sources reported that in the past 24 hours, Israeli airstrikes and artillery shells continued to target Gaza City’s Zeitoun and Sabra neighborhoods. At least two children were reported killed on Sunday. In Jabalia, north of the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian Civil Defense said that its teams recovered 70 dead bodies from the rubble left behind by Israeli forces after withdrawing from Jabalia refugee camp following a three-week ground invasion.

Campaign Launches Against Shipping Giant Maersk Over Genocidal Weapons

On June 3, the Palestinian Youth Movement announced a new global campaign targeting Maersk, one of the largest shipping companies in the world, a vital piece in the flow of weapons from the United States to Israel. PYM, a transnational Palestinian diaspora formation, has led mass mobilizations in several countries, especially in North America, challenging the US and Canada’s unconditional support for Israeli genocide in Gaza. The organization now seeks to take on the logistics industry shipping arms that transports the weapons that are used to carry out the genocide. “Maersk ships transport weapons and weapons components, meaning Maersk actively facilitates the flow of weapons to Israel to use in its criminal war in Gaza,” said PYM’s Nadya Tannous.

Historical US And Israeli Abuse Of ICC Leads To Netanyahu Indictment

On May 20, International Criminal Court prosecutor Karim Khan issued a statement outlining why he was seeking international arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Security Minister Yoav Gallant for “crimes against humanity” committed in Gaza since “at least” October 8, 2023. To anyone who has been spectating the Gaza genocide since that fateful day, the welter of horrendous charges leveled at the pair won’t have been a shock: Starvation of civilians as a method of warfare; willfully causing great suffering; willful killing; murder; intentionally directing attacks against a civilian population; extermination; persecution; inhumane acts.

Active Duty, Veterans And GI Rights Groups Launch Anti-Genocide Campaign

As more members of the military and State Department resign over U.S. funding of the genocide in Gaza, a new campaign will be launched tomorrow to allow military personnel to directly contact their congressional representatives.  Initiated by active-duty military members, veterans and G.I. rights groups, “Appeal for Redress v2,” is modeled after the 2006 Appeal for Redress conducted during the highly unpopular occupation of Iraq, to allow G.I.s to tell their representatives they are opposed to U.S. policy. Active duty service members are opposing U.S. funding of Israel’s genocide not only because it is immoral, but also because U.S. government employees violate several federal statutes every time weapons are shipped to Israel, as cited in this letter from Veterans For Peace to the U.S. State Department.

Open Letter By Gaza Academics And University Administrators

We have come together as Palestinian academics and staff of Gaza universities to affirm our existence, the existence of our colleagues and our students, and the insistence on our future, in the face of all current attempts to erase us. The Israeli occupation forces have demolished our buildings but our universities live on. We reaffirm our collective determination to remain on our land and to resume teaching, study, and research in Gaza, at our own Palestinian universities, at the earliest opportunity. We call upon our friends and colleagues around the world to resist the ongoing campaign of scholasticide in occupied Palestine, to work alongside us in rebuilding our demolished universities, and to refuse all plans seeking to bypass, erase, or weaken the integrity of our academic institutions.

Understanding Biden’s Proposal For A Gaza Ceasefire

As U.S. President Joe Biden stepped up to the microphone on Friday, he checked his watch before beginning his speech, joking that he wanted to make sure it was afternoon. Given that he was almost an hour late to the speech, someone might have told him behind the scenes to wait until it was close to the beginning of Shabbat in Israel. That way, far-right, and Sabbath-observant, ministers such as Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir would have to wait a day to respond to a speech they certainly did not want to hear. Nor was Biden’s speech one that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could have been very pleased with, although he must have known it was coming well in advance.

Following ICJ And ICC Actions, Sanctions And Arms Embargo Are Crucial Next Steps

Seven months into its genocidal campaign, Israel’s assault on Rafah led the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to issue a preliminary order on May 24. The court called on Israel to “Immediately halt its military offensive, and any other action in the Rafah Governorate, which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.” It also ordered Israel to keep the Rafah crossing open and permit United Nations investigative commissions to enter Gaza and investigate allegations of genocide. In addition, mounting Israeli atrocities propelled Karim Khan, chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), to seek arrest warrants on May 20 against top Israeli officials.

Mother Nature Makes Mockery Of US Military’s $320 Million Pier In Gaza

Well, I told you so.  Mother Nature did to the U.S. military’s $320 million Rube Goldberg pier exactly what I and others predicted.  Mother Nature’s 3-foot waves and seasonal winds caused the pier to break apart sending sections of the pier and two boats used to keep the pier in place onto beaches in Gaza and two boats onto an Israeli beach eight miles north of Gaza near Ashkelon. A section of the pier with containers and a small military truck on it floated past a popular beach in Israel and was met with laughter from Israeli beachgoers.  U.S. Boots on Gaza Sand On May 28, the Pentagon said despite U.S. military orders that no U.S. boots would be on the ground in Gaza, the U.S. soldiers who had been stuck on the Army boats beached in Gaza had to set foot in Gaza to get off the marooned boats.

Tens Of Thousands To Surround White House On June 8

Tens of thousands of people will are mobilizing to surround the White House on June 8 in protest of Biden’s complicity in the Israeli genocide in Gaza, principally the brutal invasion of Rafah, which takes more and more Palestinian lives each day. Biden had claimed in the past that the invasion of Rafah by Israel would be a red line, and even threatened to withhold weapons shipments (while actually halting some shipments of bombs) over the threat of invasion. “I made it clear that if they go into Rafah—they haven’t gone in Rafah yet—if they go into Rafah, I’m not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities—that deal with that problem,” Biden said during a CNN interview on May 8.
