This really isn’t surprising considering the folks who fund this “human rights” organization. It has received grants over the past ten years from the UK Department for International Development, the European Commission, the United States State Department, and other governments, as well as the Rockefeller Foundation. In other words, it is working for the people who want Assange prosecuted and executed. For decades, the state used “soft fascism” to rule, but this has changed over the last few years, especially since the awakening that naively put Donald Trump in the White House.

A lawsuit filed today in federal court in Louisiana challenges the state’s “critical infrastructure” law, used to press felony charges against fossil fuel pipeline construction opponents, as unconstitutional. Louisiana’s critical infrastructure law is unconstitutionally vague and broad, the suit alleges, because it lets “any authorized person” exclude people from public places like sidewalks and roads if the state’s 125,000 miles of mostly unmarked pipelines cross there. The law could even be used to bring felony charges against a landowner for being on their own land, the lawsuit alleges.

Today, Ecuador removed Assange’s personal belongings to send them to the U.S. to use in his new grand jury indictment case. This includes personal items like his glasses, his defense files, his laptops, memory cards and clothes.The illegal seizure of these items was done with neither Assange’s lawyers present or the U.N. rapporteur who requested to be there. No legal authority can guarantee his computers, data, etc. have not been tampered with. This is completely illegal and is yet another violation of Assange’s rights.

A Mexican journalist enrolled in a federal protection programme has been shot dead, the fifth reporter to be killed this year in one of the most dangerous countries for the press. The blood-soaked body of crime reporter Francisco Romero was found on a pavement outside a nightclub in his hometown of Playa del Carmen along Mexico's Caribbean coast on Thursday, authorities said. Romero ran a Facebook-based news site called "Ocurrio Aqui" (It Happened Here) that covers local politics and crime and had more than 17,000 followers. He also worked for one of the state's leading newspapers, Quintana Roo Hoy.

Sweden’s deputy director of public prosecution, Eva-Marie Persson, said Monday that Sweden would seek the extradition of Julian Assange to face a nearly ten-year old allegation of rape. Assange is serving a 50-week sentence at Belmarsh prison in London for skipping bail in the rape case in 2012. Assange had lived inside the Ecuadorian embassy from June 2012 to April 11 this year, when Ecuador lifted his asylum and allowed British police to enter the embassy and arrest him.
