Strategic direct action and civil disobedience such as strikes, sit-ins and occupations can expose injustice, slow down or stop harmful practices and win specific demands. Below is an archive of articles covering resistance groups in the United States and internationally. If you are inspired by a campaign, perhaps you will join or support it. If you like the tactics being used, you can adapt them for your own struggle. Check out our Resources Page for links to tools that may be helpful in your resistance.
Over 6,000 people marched through the streets of Barry on Saturday 26 April, calling for Welsh independence. The March for Independence, organised by YesCymru and AUOBCymru, brought people together from across the country in a powerful show of unity and hope for a better future. Since 2019, thousands have taken part in independence marches across Wales – in places like Caernarfon, Merthyr, Wrexham, Bangor, Swansea, Carmarthen and Cardiff – and now Barry, Wales’s largest town, has made its mark on that journey.
Barry has a proud political legacy, including a key role in the Cymru Fydd movement for Welsh self-government in the 1890s. Saturday’s march built on that tradition, with a new generation taking up the call for change.

On April 23, medics on hunger strike against the genocide in Gaza joined a meeting with European parliamentarians, delivering testimonies inside an institution complicit in the crimes perpetrated by Israel to this day. Speaking to MEPs, doctors, paramedics, and other health workers described the “hell” they witnessed during volunteer rotations in the Gaza Strip and explained their decision to undertake such a radical act of protest.
The health workers reasserted their demands, including the lifting of the medical blockade imposed by the occupation, the prevention of further attacks on Palestinian health workers, and, significantly, an end to European support and complicity in the genocide.

On February 14, I joined 50 other Uber and Lyft drivers, all of us members of the Tennessee Drivers Union, in a peaceful caravan at the Nashville airport to protest our low pay and dismal working conditions. Our action, which took place on public property and when our rideshare apps were turned off, coincided with Valentines Day protests by rideshare unions across the country.
A few days later, 34 of us received emails and text messages from Uber and Lyft informing us that we were permanently banned from pick-ups at the Nashville airport. The rideshare companies falsely accused us of unlawfully picking up passengers at the arrivals level of the airport.

A coalition of Western Apaches, other Native peoples, and non-Native allies asked a federal court late yesterday to stop the U.S. government from handing over their sacred site at Oak Flat to a multinational mining giant as early as June 16, 2025. In Apache Stronghold v. United States, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals last year refused to stop the federal government from transferring Oak Flat to Resolution Copper, a Chinese-owned mining company that plans to turn the site into a massive mining crater, ending Apache religious practices forever. The emergency appeal comes after the government announced last week it will forge ahead with the transfer even though the case is currently under consideration by the U.S. Supreme Court.

The Spanish government ordered the immediate termination of a $7.5 million contract to buy ammunition from a company with direct ties to Israeli arms maker Elbit Systems on 24 April.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez canceled the deal after Sumar, a group of left-wing parties, threatened to leave the governing coalition.
“After exhausting all routes for negotiation, the prime minister, deputy prime minister, and ministries involved have decided to rescind this contract,” a government source told Al Jazeera.
Earlier this week, Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska formalized a contract with Israeli-owned company Guardian Homeland Security S.A. for over 15 million rounds of ammunition

In a shameless attempt to undermine international accountability for accused war criminal Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Hungarian President Viktor Orbán graciously hosted the architect of Israel’s 18-month genocide in Gaza on April 3.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) is now formally investigating Hungary’s blatant refusal to fulfill its legal obligation to arrest Netanyahu and send him to The Hague. States parties to the Rome Statute have a duty to cooperate with the court and facilitate the arrest of any ICC suspect who enters their territory. Although Orbán announced Hungary’s withdrawal from the statute on April 3, it does not take effect for one year.

Hundreds of Washington state workers streamed into the capitol building in Olympia on April 9 demanding, “No cuts! No furloughs! Tax, tax the rich!”
Our booming chants echoed through the rotunda, making it difficult for legislators to carry on their work. The governor’s office locked the doors on us, so we staged a sit-in in the hallway and marched throughout the capitol building.
When the doors were finally opened, we crowded inside—but the only sign of Democratic Governor Bob Ferguson was a small photograph on the front counter. His chief of staff informed our union president, Mike Yestramski, that he would let Bob know we had stopped by.

A new report exposes the complicity of global insurers in the climate crisis. Notably, it has revealed how five major insurance companies – Allianz, AXA, Aviva, Zurich, and Intact – have invested to the tune of $6.5bn in the fossil fuel corporations wrecking the planet.
The report was authored by the Boycott Bloody Insurance campaign – which launched last month with a day of action. On Tuesday 25 March, the group targeted insurance offices nationwide.
Now, its new publication Ensuring Climate Crisis: The Insurance Industry and Fossil Fuel Giants highlights how these insurance companies, while often presenting a green image, continue to support and profit from the fossil fuel industry.

Over 1,000 protesters took to the streets of Tangier, Morocco, on April 20, protesting the docking of the ship Nexoe Maersk in the Moroccan port city. This comes the same week that the same ship was delayed at the port of Casablanca for 39 hours due to similar protests. This comes after Moroccan dockworkers issued a call to action to boycott the Nexoe Maersk ship, following reports that the vessel would be carrying military equipment to Israel.
Demonstrators in Tangier chanted slogans such as “No genocidal weapons in Moroccan waters” and “the people want the ship banned.”
Across the world, organizations in solidarity with Palestine have called for a boycott of Danish shipping giant Maersk for its role in bringing weapons to Israeli forces carrying out genocide in Gaza.

Edinburgh Came Out Against Court’s Roll-Back Of Trans Women’s Rights
On Saturday 19 April, around 2,000 protesters turned out in Edinburgh against the UK Supreme Court’s roll-back of transgender women’s rights.
Members of the public marched from the foot of The Mound to the UK government building to rail against the disgraceful far-right-fueled ruling. Together, gender queer communities and allies galvanised a highly energised crowd against the Supreme Court ruling. Throughout, the rhetoric was one of encouraging solidarity within the trans community, rather than begging the government for help. This included a call to autonomously establish sources of “Food, Housing, Medicine and Trans Joy”.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), a country endowed with some of the world’s most coveted minerals, continues to be at the heart of global geopolitical interests. And this time, the stakes are higher.
As M23 rebels continue to gain ground in the eastern provinces of the DRC, the embattled government of President Felix Tshisekedi, facing rising unpopularity and legitimacy questions, appears to be inching closer to a controversial deal with the United States: security assistance in exchange for strategic mineral access. The details of the deal, timelines, and key points have yet to be announced, but officials from the Trump administration have told the press that negotiations continue.
