Resist!

resist-iconStrategic direct action and civil disobedience such as strikes, sit-ins and occupations can expose injustice, slow down or stop harmful practices and win specific demands. Below is an archive of articles covering resistance groups in the United States and internationally. If you are inspired by a campaign, perhaps you will join or support it. If you like the tactics being used, you can adapt them for your own struggle. Check out our Resources Page for links to tools that may be helpful in your resistance.

Free Yves Engler

On February 20, long-time Canadian Dimension columnist and contributor Yves Engler was arrested by Montréal police at the behest of pro-Israel media personality Dahlia Kurtz. In today’s Canada, offending Zionist influencers is apparently enough to land you behind bars. Canadians involved in progressive politics, from the left-wing of the NDP and Greens to the Communist Party, read Engler’s work and admire his commitment to social struggle. For decades, he has organized in support of just causes, from helping stop war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech at Concordia University in 2002, to tirelessly confronting Canadian politicians about their complicity in the genocide in Gaza, to penning a vast catalogue of work that shatters complacent illusions about Canada’s benevolence and reveals the often cynical, profit-driven, anti-democratic heart of Ottawa’s foreign policy.

ICC Asked To Investigate Biden And Blinken Over War Crimes Allegations

For the first time ever, a US-based organization has formally asked the International Criminal Court to investigate a former US president for possible complicity in war crimes and crimes against humanity. The 172-page request submitted by the Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN) alleges several figures – including former President Biden, former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and former Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin – aided and abetted Israeli war crimes in Gaza. “This case might face political pushback, but that doesn’t change the message it sends: impunity isn’t a given. If the rule of law is supposed to mean anything, it has to apply across the board – not just to our enemies, but to our friends, and yes, to ourselves,” war crimes prosecutor and DAWN board member Reed Brody told Zeteo.

Yves Engler: ‘I’m Being Charged For Responding To Anti-Palestinian Hate’

Tomorrow, the Montreal police will arrest me for posting to social media against Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Today, I received a phone call from a Montreal police officer by the last name of Crivello. She asked me to come to a downtown police station where I will be charged for harassment and indecent communication. Crivello said a complaint was submitted against me months ago by a legal firm on behalf of racist media personality Dahlia Kurtz. Crivello said I had described Kurtz as a “genocide” supporter and “fascist” on Twitter. Guilty as charged.

Over 1000 Chicanos Hit The Streets Of Los Angeles To Protest Deportations

Los Angeles, CA – On February 17, over 1000 Chicanos gathered at Placita Olvera in downtown Los Angeles to protest against ICE deportations and to fight back against Trump's racist, right-wing agenda. The rally and march were called for by Chicana activists who used social media to get the word out. Recent protests in Los Angeles have brought out large crowds of Chicanos ready to stand up and fight, with the last one, on February 2, drawing tens of thousands who took to the streets. That afternoon protesters even took over the 101 Freeway, shutting it down for hours and completely overwhelming LAPD, LASD and CHP, which were completely unprepared and caught off guard by Raza fighting back.

Brooklyn Academy Of Music: Drop Batsheva Dance Company

On January 15, Dancers for Palestine, and Theater Workers for a Ceasefire, and Amplify Palestine sent the following email to the President and Artistic Director of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, requesting a response by January 31. BAM leadership did not respond. The signatory organizations and individuals join the call for BAM to respect the BDS picket line by refusing to program Batsheva and other complicit organizations. We recognize that it is as important as ever to escalate pressure for the support of Palestinian liberation, given ongoing violations of the ceasefire in Gaza, the escalating violence in the West Bank, and the continued military occupation and Apartheid system of discrimination.

Locals Hit Elon Musk Tesla Car Dealers Again

Local grassroots organizers stepped up actions on Saturday for the second weekend outside Elon Musk’s Tesla electric vehicle dealerships in hopes of spurring a boycott against the company. At least four dealerships were targeted in the region as fury rose against the mega-billionaire and world’s richest man. The protests were part of a national effort by many grassroots groups. Local dealerships of the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia (DC-MD-VA) at Georgetown, Washington DC; Rockville, Maryland; Tysons Corner and Arlington, Virginia were among those sites of the weekend protests.

The Movement Supporting Public Employees Is Rising

Thousands of workers hit the streets February 19, all around the country — at federal offices like the Department of Health and Human Services, at Tesla dealerships and public spaces — to declare their opposition to the slashing and burning of public services currently happening under the guise of “efficiency.” Workers focused on billionaire Elon Musk’s power within President Donald Trump’s new administration, through the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). National Park Service workers, standing in the snow, brandished signs reading, “Immigrants didn’t steal my job. The president did.”

Citizens Defend Internal Revenue Service From Latest DOGE Takedown

Washington DC—One month ago no one would have dreamed citizens would defend the Internal Revenue Service. It is the one governmental agency that has probably cost most everyone more money than anything else. But on Friday afternoon a group of ordinary citizens did just that—they stood outside the IRS to defend it against the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) takeover. Several Federal employees joined the protest for an afternoon demonstration. A few spoke over a low volume sound system about how DOGE was creating the government crisis and the cascading effects it would have on everyone.

UNRWA Vows To Help Palestinians Despite Israeli Ban, Deadly Attacks

Palestinian Territories — Israel has banned the United Nations agency mandated to support Palestinian refugees and designated it a terrorist organization. The United Nations UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has vowed to continue its humanitarian work until unable to do so, despite the ban and having at least 258 staff members killed by Israel and over 650 attacks on their buildings. In October 2024, Israel passed legislation banning UNRWA. The new law went into effect on January 30, 2025, and prohibits UNRWA from operating in Gaza, the occupied West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem.

Migrants Rescued From Guantánamo Arrive In Venezuela

Venezuelan Minister for Internal Affairs, Justice and Peace Diosdado Cabello received 177 Venezuelans rescued from the US military base in Guantánamo Bay that illegally occupies Cuban territory. Cabello explained that the operation was the result of a request by the Venezuelan government negotiated with the US government. The New York Times (NYT) reported that one migrant was sent back to the US. The 177 migrants arrived in Venezuela near midnight on Thursday, February 20, on a Conviasa Airbus 340-200 passenger jet at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetia, La Guaira state.

Join Groups In Houston Fighting Against Oil And Gas Billionaires!

Every year in Houston, the CEOs of the world’s most polluting oil and gas companies gather for a massive industry conference called CERA Week, where they conspire on new ways to increase their profits while continuing to harm our communities with their toxic products. We are witnessing in real time the results of unchecked corporate greed from oil and gas CEOs. We are seeing the destruction of raging wildfires, powerful hurricanes, and extreme flooding impacting communities across our country and the globe, caused by the continued burning of fossil fuels.

10,000 King Soopers Strikers Go Back For 100 Days

Denver - Ten thousand striking grocery workers at 77 King Soopers stores in the Denver, Boulder and Louisville, Colorado, area returned to work on Feb. 18 for an agreed 100 days while the company and union restarted bargaining negotiations. Strike activities which workers called on Feb. 6 for two weeks will now cease while negotiations are resumed. The company agreed to withdraw its demand that the union accept its “last best offer” and that workers would not have their health insurance cut due to not working during the 12-day strike. Employees need to work at least 80 hours in four weeks to keep their health coverage.

Green Groups Sue Over Oil And Gas Drilling In Protected Waters

Conservation groups, including the Center for Biological Diversity, Oceana, Greenpeace and the Natural Resources Defense Council, filed two separate lawsuits against the Trump administration on Wednesday. Both complaints focus on the administration’s moves to open more of the nation’s waters to drilling for oil and gas. “President Trump’s executive order would roll back millions of acres of ocean protection, jeopardizing our coastal economies and the people who rely on healthy, thriving oceans,” said Joseph Gordon, Oceana campaign director, in a press release from the Center for Biological Diversity.

Congo Activists To NBA: Black Lives Matter In DRC

Activists protested the National Basketball Association's close relationship with Rwanda outside the NBA All Star Game at San Francisco's Chase Center on Sunday, February 16. Their action was complemented by an online appeal to the NBA via their social media platforms particularly on X. The NBA has a longstanding relationship with the Rwandan dictatorship despite decades of UN documentation of its human rights abuses inside Rwanda and war crimes in the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo , where Rwandan troops and the Rwandan-commanded M23 militia now occupy the capital cities of Congo's North and South Kivu Provinces.

Hundreds March On SpaceX Building In Washington, DC

Washington DC—A coalition of Federal workers, allies, and a network of unions gathered at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center to denounce the Trump-Musk shutdowns and takeovers of Federal agencies, and firings of thousands of Federal workers. Several hundred then marched a few blocks away to the 1200 block of F Street where the Elon Musk SpaceX rocket headquarters is housed. They stopped at the front entrances shouting “Hey hey, ho ho, Elon Musk has got to go!” As they arrived at the doors their fury was evident.
