Donald Trump

What Will Trump’s Iran Policy Look Like?

Incoming U.S. President Donald Trump adopted an aggressive Iran policy in his first term. He withdrew from the Obama administration’s Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), adopted harsh sanctions on the country, and assassinated Iranian military commander Qassem Suleimani. Should we expect more of the same this time around? Does he actually want a deal with the country? Who might end up pushing him on the issue behind the scenes? Is there any reason to take his non-interventionist seriously or does neocon ideology still prevail within the Republican party? Is the Iranian government actually vulnerable right now? What role does Israel play in all of this?

The Militia And The Mole

John Williams kept a backpack filled with everything he’d need to go on the run: three pairs of socks; a few hundred dollars cash; makeshift disguises and lock-picking gear; medical supplies, vitamins and high-calorie energy gels; and thumb drives that each held more than 100 gigabytes of encrypted documents, which he would quickly distribute if he were about to be arrested or killed. On April 1, 2023, Williams retrieved the bag from his closet and rushed to his car. He had no time to clean the dishes that had accumulated in his apartment.

Dr Victor Frankenstein Disavows His Monster

Very few humans have had the good fortune to descend into the depths of the world’s oceans. The deepest such place – 11 kilometres below sea level at its deepest point – is the Mariana Trench, which is located just north of the 607 islands of the Federated States of Micronesia in the Pacific Ocean (by comparison, Mount Everest is nearly nine kilometres above sea level). Down there, in the depths below six kilometres in what is called the hadal zone, there is no light. It is called the hadal zone after Hades, the ancient Greek god of the underworld.

Three Reasons To Vote Against Nomination Of Pete Hegseth For Secretary Of Defense

On January 14 at 9:30am, the Fox News commentator and Army National Guard Major Pete Hegseth is scheduled to be questioned by the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee in a confirmation hearing on President-elect Trump’s nomination for him to be Secretary of Defense. I, along with many other women and men military veterans, will be at the hearing to strongly protest Hegseth’s nomination and demand that the Senate refuse to send the nomination forward for a vote of the entire Senate. I am an unlikely protester. I served 29 years in the US Army and Army Reserves.  I retired as a Colonel.

The Undeclared Objectives Of Edmundo González’s Tour

On January 3, the former presidential candidate from the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), Edmundo González, began a tour of Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Panama, and the United States. Last September, he asked for asylum from the Spanish government and subsequently fled there after a negotiation with the Venezuelan government that completely dynamited his credibility. His visit to these countries, where he has been received as a supposed “president-elect,” has as its fundamental objective to position, once again, the Venezuelan question on the regional scene, in view of the imminent rise of Donald Trump to the White House, relying on the governments most aligned with Washington’s foreign policy on the continent.

National Alliance Against Racist And Political Repression Call To Action

In all of the post-election analysis and armchair commentaries, there emerges a fundamental truth, and that truth is that both parties are controlled and managed by the rich. Meaning that the people are left with the best election money can buy. The genocidal war against Gaza perpetrated by Israel demonstrated more than any other issues that when it comes to U.S. imperialism there is no difference between Democrats and Republicans that makes a difference. In terms of warmongering rhetoric, the parties are united. The Gaza genocidal war was a double edge sword.

Six Of The Largest US Banks Leave Net Zero Alliance Ahead Of Trump

Six of the largest banks in the United States have bowed out of the global Net Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA), with the inauguration of Donald Trump predicted to bring political backlash concerning climate action, reported The Guardian. The latest to withdraw is JP Morgan, which followed Citigroup and Bank of America. Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and Wells Fargo have also left the United Nations-sponsored NZBA since the beginning of December. “JPMC is ending our membership in the Net Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA). We will continue to work independently to advance the interests of our Firm, our shareholders and our clients and remain focused on pragmatic solutions to help further low-carbon technologies while advancing energy security.

From Genocide Joe To Trump’s Israel First: What’s Next For Palestine?

As President Biden greenlights another $8 billion in weapons to Israel in his last days in office and Secretary Blinken gives a parting New York Times interview in which he denies that a genocide is taking place in Gaza, many pro-Palestine activists are anxiously counting down the days until “Genocide Joe” and his crew exit the White House. But what will activists have to contend with under the Trump presidency? Donald Trump proved his pro-Israel agenda in his first term by moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, supporting West Bank settlements, recognizing the Golan Heights as part of Israel, pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal and enacting the Abraham Accords to normalize relations between Israel and Arab states, while disregarding the plight of Palestinians.

Dark Clouds Gather At The National Labor Relations Board

On December 10, the five-member board, still under Democratic control, issued a long-awaited decision freeing unions from the most deleterious features of management-rights clauses. The case, Endurance Environmental Solutions, LLC, overruled MV Transportation, a 2019 decree from Donald Trump’s first term in office. MV Transportation created an outrageous presumption that unions which agree to generally worded management-rights clauses intend to give employers a right to change work rules, hours, or other conditions of work without giving prior notice or extending an opportunity to bargain.

Trump To Target Native-Born US Citizens

President-elect Trump is claiming that he can abolish birthright citizenship, seeking to strip citizenship from 7 million or more Americans who are children of undocumented immigrants. This has been a long-time demand of right-wing anti-immigrant individuals and organizations, such as Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, former Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce (best known as the sponsor of Arizona’s anti-immigrant SB1070 law) and anti-immigrant organizations such as the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Resigns

On January 6, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation. “I care deeply about this country and I will always be motivated by what is in the best interests of Canadians. And the fact is, despite best efforts to work through it, parliament has been paralyzed for months after what has been the longest session of a minority parliament in Canadian history,” Trudeau said as he resigned after nine years as prime minister and 11 years as the leader of the Liberal Party. Trudeau was facing a mounting cost of living crisis, dire opinion polls, and a tariff threat by the United States.

Why Be A Doormat?

US President-elect Donald Trump recently referred to Canada as the “51st State” and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as its “governor.” While on one level, such ridiculous statements are part and parcel of Trump’s political persona, they reveal something deeper about the role that Canada occupies in the American economy and political imagination. This is an issue that the Canadian Marxist historian Stanley B. Ryerson explored in a pamphlet entitled “Why Be a Doormat?” published by the Labor-Progressive Party in 1948. “Canadians need complete and permanent union with the US… Since Canada has shown that she cannot fiscally operate in today’s world, and since Britain is fiscally impotent, it is up to the US to act.”

Goals Behind Trump’s Tariffs

Donald Trump cited billionaire egghead venture capitalist Marc Andreessen to advocate for high tariffs. Trump argued that tariffs will magically replace the income tax and pay off US public debt (which is more than 120% of GDP). This is utterly false, and mathematically absurd. For Trump, tariffs are just another convenient excuse to cut taxes on the rich — which will in fact increase the US deficit, and therefore public debt. Thanks to Trump’s tax cuts during his first term, the richest billionaire families in the US paid a lower effective tax rate than the bottom half of households in the country.

US Dockworkers Could Strike Again Before Trump’s Inauguration

Months after a strike numbering in the tens of thousands, US dockworkers throughout the East Coast could once again walk off the job just before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.  The October strike of dockworkers organized by the The International Longshoremen’s Association, the ILA’s first strike since 1977, ended after three days with an agreement with the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) to extend the master contract until January 15, and return to the bargaining table to continue negotiations. The strike in early October resulted in a tentative agreement between USMX and ILA dockworkers which secured a 62% wage hike over six years.

Trump’s Second Term Is Around The Corner

In less than one month, the horrific term of U.S. President Joe Biden will be over. His will be a legacy of genocide, of the annihilation of the international system of law, and the hobbling of political norms around basic principles of human rights, state sovereignty, and the unbridled use of force. Unfortunately, the departure of this president who has set new standards for bloodthirstiness and utter lack of principle does not augur an era where matters are likely to improve. With Donald Trump taking the White House for the second time, we enter a new phase of uncertainty, with a self-interested, mercurial, authoritarian in the White House.
