There Can Be No Holidays During A Genocide, Health Activists Warn

“There is a real danger that when world leaders return from their Christmas holidays, there will be no health system left in Gaza,” warned Melanie Ward, CEO of Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP). During the last 75 days, Israeli attacks have decimated the health infrastructure in the Gaza Strip, leaving 2.2 million without access to essential care. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are no fully operational hospitals in this part of occupied Palestine left, and those still providing care are hanging by a very thin thread. MAP also reported that over the past 10 weeks of Israeli attacks, more health workers were killed than in any conflict since 2016.

Human Rights Groups Demand ICC Issue Arrest Warrants On Israeli Officials

Hundreds of human rights organizations and activists issued a joint call on Wednesday, December 20 asking the International Criminal Court (ICC) to immediately issue arrest warrants for Israeli officials accused of being involved in the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. Addressed to Karim Khan KC, the ICC prosecutor, the letter underlines that the warrants are necessary to prevent the “continuing commission by Israeli officials of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes against Palestinians.” The letter was written in support of the three Palestinian human rights groups, Al-Haq, Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights, and the Palestinian Center for Human Rights, that had filed a notice to the ICC on November 8, drawing attention to Israel’s continued bombings inside the densely populated areas of the Gaza Strip, the continued siege of the territory, the denial of basic necessities to millions of Gazans such as food, water, fuel, medicine, among others, and the forceful displacement of over a million people.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 76: Extrajudicial Killings Of Men In Front Of Their Families

Israeli forces have continued their rampage across the Gaza Strip for the 76th consecutive day. Emerging reports indicate that the Israeli army is not only taking Palestinians hostage and reportedly torturing them, but is conducting extrajudicial executions. UNOCHA has received “disturbing information” alleging that Israeli forces killed at least 11 unarmed Palestinian men in front of their family members in Gaza’s Remal neighborhood. The Israeli army “allegedly separated the men from the women and children, and then shot and killed at least 11 of the men, mostly aged in their late 20s and early 30s, in front of their family members”, the statement said.

BP Suspends All Oil Shipments Through Red Sea In Response To Houthi Blockade

On Monday, December 18, oil giant BP announced that it would pause all oil shipments through the Red Sea due to Houthi’s blockade of all ships heading to Israel. BP is the first oil and gas company to do so. The Ansar Allah forces had announced its blockade on December 9. Yahya Sare’e, the spokesperson of Yemeni armed forces, announced that the blockade would continue until Israel ended its genocidal war on Gaza and lifted the blockade on the besieged Palestinian territory. As a result of the blockade, cargo ships have been forced to travel around the African continent rather than through the Red Sea, increasing shipping costs to Israel. On Monday, December 18, oil giant BP announced that it would pause all oil shipments through the Red Sea due to Houthi’s blockade of all ships heading to Israel. 80+ Groups Descend On DC, Demand Gaza Cease-Fire, Migrant Rights

Activists from more than 80 advocacy groups took to Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday to protest what they called the Israeli genocide in Palestine and "cruel" immigration policies here in the United States. The demonstrators demanded a permanent cease-fire in Gaza, an end to American military aid for Israel, and protection for migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border. "As the Biden administration and Senate Democrats indicate a willingness to advance cruel immigration proposals in order to pass a spending package that will send billions of dollars to Israel to continue its genocide in Gaza, we come together as a coalition of immigrant, Palestinian, and allied organizations dedicated to fighting for justice and liberation.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 74: Hamas Tells Israel It ‘Arrived Too Late’

The atrocities Israel committed in the Gaza Strip may need a UN special tribunal, said Martin Griffiths, the UN’s under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs. Griffiths told The Financial Times in an interview that he has dealt with conflicts and natural disasters in Libya, Afghanistan, Syria, and Sudan, and yet the situation in Gaza, where 136 UN workers have been killed in Israeli bombardment, is by far the worst. “None of the normal, sound foundations you see across the world for humanitarian operations in places like Syria and Afghanistan exist for us in Gaza.

Despite Biden’s Claims, Gaza Health Ministry Death Toll Is Accurate

The death toll of Israel’s war on Gaza reported by the Palestinian health ministry is accurate, according to two peer-reviewed studies by scientific experts published in top medical journal The Lancet. As of December 18, Israel had killed 19,453 Palestinians in Gaza, the ministry reported. Two-thirds of the deaths were children (7,729) and women (5,153). United Nations bodies, human rights organizations, and major media outlets have often used these statistics, because they have a history of being accurate. “International organizations including the United Nations usually rely on these same figures as they are seen as the best available”, the Washington Post acknowledged.

Euro-Med Monitor: Investigate Reports ‘Israel’ Burying Victims Alive

The human rights organization Euro-Med Monitor has urged to probe Israeli war crimes after reports of Palestinian civilians buried alive at the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza. In a report published on Saturday, the Geneva-based group said that “an independent international investigation must be opened into these reports.” According to Euro-Med Monitor, “Israeli army bulldozers drove into the hospital (on Saturday) morning and destroyed its southern section, leaving behind massive destruction following several days of non-stop attacks and siege.”

Israel Is Wiping Out Gaza’s Journalists: A Tribute

I recently became the recipient of the Women and Media Award from the Women’s Institute of the Freedom of the Press. While it’s truly an honor to receive this recognition for the journalism that I direct at MintPress News, it’s nearly impossible for me to revel in this accolade when my heart is weighed down heavily by the ongoing turmoil in Gaza. As a Palestinian-American journalist who has lived under the oppressive shadow of Israeli occupation and witnessed firsthand the relentless brutality of the apartheid regime, I cannot remain silent as my people face relentless oppression and violence. I want to dedicate this award to the fearless journalists in Gaza who are risking their lives to show us the raw reality of life under Israeli bombs.

Largest Health Workers Union In United States Calls For Ceasefire

The largest health workers’ union in the United States, Service Employees International Union Local 1199, just joined the global movement for a ceasefire. Representing over 450,000 working and retired healthcare industry workers, SEIU 1199 is now the second largest union in the US to call for a ceasefire, behind the United Auto Workers. “We reject the notion that Israel’s attacks on hospitals filled with patients, apartment blocks filled with families, and the deaths of 11,000+ Palestinian women and children are acceptable collateral damage,” reads 1199’s statement. “We urge an immediate ceasefire.” With this statement, the local builds on an anti-war legacy.

‘Operation Al Aqsa Flood’ Day 70: A Deteriorating Public Health Crisis

After heavy rains and hail storms ushered in the beginning of harsh winter weather in Gaza earlier this week, displaced people in Rafah have been faced with even more challenges as tents flooded, and they found themselves homeless and freezing, without their winter clothes. “Most of those who evacuated from the northern area left without bringing their winter clothes,” wrote Gaza-based journalist Hind Khoudary, on Twitter. “They have been knocking on the doors of people whose houses were not bombed, asking for clothes.” One enormous problem that the displaced are facing is a lack of sanitation in overcrowded shelters—according to the World Health Organization (WHO), there is an average of one shower per 700 people and one toilet per 150 people in Gaza, which has contributed to the rapid spread of infectious diseases.

Unionists Around The World Block Weapons Bound For Israel

An appeal from Palestinian unions for global solidarity has elicited unprecedented worker-led actions in Italy, Canada, India, Belgium, Spain, and the U.K. Israel’s military attack on Gaza has killed more than 18,000 people, injured nearly 50,000, and displaced 1.9 million, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. In an urgent call on October 16, Palestinian unions and professional associations asked unions abroad to “Stop Arming Israel,” given the military and diplomatic support for Israel coming from the U.S. and the European Union. They appealed to unions and workers to refrain from manufacturing, transporting, and handling weapons and surveillance technology destined for Israel.

Getting Serious About Halting Israeli Genocide

Many experts compare apartheid Israel to apartheid South Africa. Speeches at the UN may have helped to bring down South Africa’s apartheid regime, but change didn’t come until countries around the world embraced a global campaign to economically and politically isolate it. The reason Israel’s die-hard supporters in the United States have tried to ban, or even criminalize, the campaign for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) is not that it is illegitimate or anti-semitic. It is precisely because boycotting, sanctioning and divesting from Israel may be an effective strategy to help bring down its genocidal, expansionist and unaccountable regime.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 69: Israeli Soldier Shoots Women And Children Execution Style In Gaza

Almost ten weeks into Israel’s ruthless attacks on Gaza, about 90% of the population is displaced and the attacks on civilians continue to grow more gruesome. The bodies of Palestinians, including women, children, and newborns, were found piled up in the Shadia Abu Ghazala school in northern Gaza, with people reporting that they had been shot at point-blank range. Al Jazeera has shared witness testimonies, claiming that the civilians were killed execution-style by Israeli soldiers, the bodies left behind for their families to find. Meanwhile, nearly half of the territory’s 1.9 million residents are seeking shelter in the Rafah governorate area in southern Gaza.

West Fears ‘Atrocity Upsurge’ While Ignoring Gaza

How do politicians, diplomats, the media and even the human rights community keep us politically ignorant, docile and passive – a collective mindset that prevents us from challenging their power as well as the status quo they benefit from? The answer: By constantly misrepresenting reality to us and their own role in shaping it. And they do it so successfully because, at the same time, they gaslight us by flaunting the pretence that they crave to make the world a better place — a better place where, in truth, the unspoken danger is that, were it to be realised, their own power would be severely diminished.
